Confession - I used to think everyone should homeschool. 🙄⠀ ⠀ As our 9th year of homeschooling comes to a close I like to think how far we've come. Our homeschooling has changed dramatically over the years. The kids are getting older and the pressures start to increase. I've never doubted that we're doing things that are best for us though.⠀ ⠀ I know homeschooling is not for everyone. Thank goodness for options right?! 🙌 ⠀ ⠀ Don't doubt that you're on YOUR right path. Yes homeschooling or any kind of schooling is messy. 😂 Life with kids is one heck of an adventure.⠀ ⠀ Seeing my kids grow up and really start to get a handle on what they love and what their gifts are is SO rewarding. I said to my little creator today, "Someday you're going to be a famous inventor."⠀ ⠀ She replied with the biggest smile, "Really?!"⠀ ⠀ Really. ❤️ Watching their gifts develop is magical. Kids are magical. ✨
Today is my husband's birthday. I surprised him by getting a sitter for the kids for the weekend and having two wonderful days to ourselves. I don't remember the last time that's happened. 🤦♀️⠀ While we were eating lunch today I pulled out some questions we were having fun answering together and I came across this one -⠀ ⠀ "What is your favorite memory of our family?"⠀ ⠀ We had a good laugh at some of the ones mentioned. Such happy memories. My favorite was when we had just finished hiking Devil's Bridge in Sedona, AZ. We had expected like a 2-3 mile hike and ended up hiking over 6 miles. We weren't nearly prepared with water as we should have been. Exhausted, we hopped in the car and headed to the nearest gas station. Each of us got to pick a drink and a treat for ourselves for our hard work! 😁 It was nothing huge but we were all ecstatic because of our fatigue. We got back in the car and the song that came on next was, I'll Make A Man Out of You, from Disney's Mulan. The irony hit us and we couldn't stop laughing! 😂😂 It is now our victory song after each hike we do as a family. ❤️⠀ ⠀ No matter how sucky things are irl there is so much that is good. It didn't matter if we didn't get to go out of town for his birthday. It doesn't matter if everything else felt like it was falling apart. I love knowing that we know how to be happy with nothing, and at the same time because we have everything. We find joy in each other. ⠀ ⠀ So - What's your favorite family memory? 🤩
Reading good books aloud is perhaps my favorite part of homeschooling and mothering. We have logged countless hours of reading together. ❤️⠀ ⠀ I will often grab items around me to act out what we're reading about. Kids LOVE to see things in action. When I saw @smokedtimber peg dolls I knew I had to have them! ALL of them! 😂😍 They are hands down my favorite peg dolls.⠀ ⠀ Their look is so unique because the details are not painted on, they are burned on. Also the paint is not acrylic so it's not going to chip off. ⠀ ⠀ One of my kids actually paid me for a custom one I ordered because she loved it so much! 😍⠀ ⠀ Spice up your read alouds with some peg dolls with a 20% off code! WANDER20. 🙌 Code is good for the month of May!! ⠀ https://buff.ly/2LI52SX
"There is no limit to what a woman with a mother heart can accomplish. Righteous women have changed the course of history and will continue to do so, and their influence will spread and grow exponentially throughout the eternities."⠀ -Julie B. Beck⠀ ⠀ Take courage dear mother hearts. ❤️ You are enough. Happy Mother's Day!
To do Saturday family projects or not to do Saturday family projects, that is the question. 🤔😄⠀ ⠀ Sometimes Saturdays are for family house projects. Sometimes they are for family trips or all day activities and traditions. And sometimes Saturdays are for friends and completing our own projects.⠀ ⠀ This particular Saturday years ago involved a 30+ year tradition of having a family shaving cream fight in our bathroom. 😂😂😂⠀ ⠀ It was my mother's doing. She had the bright idea when I was about 3 years old. Somehow I remembered this over 20+ years later. I bought shaving cream for Christmas presents. Before we moved out of that home we had our very own family shaving cream fight. It was every bit magical as it was as a child. ✨
One of our FAVORITE afternoon snacks! Peanut Butter Date "Milkshake." 🤩 So good!⠀ ⠀ It tastes like a Reese's Peanut Butter. My husband loves Reese's and normally does not like healthy versions of treats but he LOVES this "milkshake!"⠀ ⠀ - 1 C Almond milk⠀ - 4 medium pitted Dates⠀ - 2 TBS Chia seeds⠀ - 1 TBS Peanut Butter (can use Almond butter instead)⠀ - 1/4 tsp Vanilla Extract⠀ - pinch of salt⠀ - 1 ¹/² C of ice⠀ ⠀ Blend and enjoy! 😋⠀ ⠀ *Recipe from @blogilates
TGIF! 🙌⠀ ⠀ Friday seems to be either date night or family date night. Which is it for you?⠀ ⠀ Since moving into our current home we've had the tradition of having my dad over for dinner and a movie. It's been happening so consistently we kind of feel lost if he's out of town or can't come for some reason. 😂⠀ ⠀ Growing up it was my dad who always had the older classic movies going. My Fair Lady, Support Your Local Sheriff, Hot Lead and Cold Feet, etc etc. We've been carrying on the tradition and watching all the older classic movies from the 50's and on.⠀ ⠀ I don't know how long this Friday night tradition will last with my dad but we're enjoying it so much as a family.⠀ ⠀ Happy Friday friends! 🤗
What we've been up to -⠀ ⠀ The past 420 days have been filled with many types of adventures!⠀ ⠀ *Sword paint fighting as a family - New Year tradition! ⠀ *Hiking Fossil Springs in AZ (our oldest had just gotten out of the hospital and had a feeding tube at the time)⠀ *Lava Tube in Flagstaff, AZ (cold and so neat!) ⠀ *We bought a dog 😂😍⠀ *Hiked and swam in Silver Lake, Utah (beautiful hike! Highly recommend!) ⠀ *Bought a house 🏡⠀ *Hiked to the Obsidian Mine in Superior, AZ (also known as Apache Tears)⠀ *Today's hike - Goldmine Trail, AZ⠀ ⠀ The adventures never stop. 🙌
It's been 420 days since I last posted. 2018 was the year that would be titled, "Let's go to Hell and back." 🤦♀️⠀ If you take a look at our last post you can see it was a rough one for our oldest daughter. I don't really enjoy reliving that part of our life so I'm not going to go into that but after months we found that she had PANDAS. (Blog post coming soon about her journey.) Our traveling in our RV came quickly to an end and all decisions we made revolved around what we could do to help her. (She is healing and recovering Wonderfully! ❤️) ⠀ It has been a journey of many ups and downs. I wondered how I could continue sharing our journey if we weren't traveling in an RV anymore. I realized the reason I wanted to create this space on IG in the first place was to share our journeys through LIFE not necessarily just when we were living in the RV.⠀ Our page is Witty Wanderings to Hidden Treasures. We are a family of 4, with two dogs and two African Spurred Tortoises. Hidden treasures can be found anywhere. In friendships, our individual journeys, in places traveled to, and in new chapters in our lives.⠀ Cheers to our new life chapter!
I know this is a travel blog and all, but this month's travel adventures have hit a little closer to home. Our little girl has been to hell and back this month, and the hospital 3 times. 💔 She has been feeling nauseous after she eats for about a month and a half now and its progressively gotten worse. 😟 New symptoms keep appearing each week and it is scary. After trying one hospital with no luck (they diagnosed her with anxiety), we are at Phoenix Children's Hospital and are amazed at the love and attention they are giving her. Yesterday she had an EEG, an MRI, a Lumbar Puncture, AND an EKG. 😱 They are on top of things. After the EEG they think she has Autoimmune Encephalitis. We hear back from the Neurologist this morning about how the MRI went. The good news is it can be treated. We, and they, just don't know how long that will take. It varies for each person. Meanwhile we're in the hospital, our youngest is enjoying herself in Rocky Point, Mexico with my sisters family. ❤️❤️❤️ It's been a brutal month. We're thankful for any and all prayers on our daughters behalf. 🙏😘
These have been a long time in coming! One of our goals as a family while traveling to all 50 States in America was/is to see as many LDS Temples as possible. 😍 The architecture is incredible. We are so thankful for for the chance to walk around these beautiful places. ❤️❤️❤️
Have you ever cried when you got to visit a new place? Because it was so beautiful or because you never imagined you'd actually get to visit it? Helen Keller is one of my biggest heroes. Did you know she knew SIX languages (if you count Braille) and one of her favorite past times was rowing her boat? I was shocked! 😍 Seeing where the light finally entered her mind, here at the water pump was a place I definitely cried getting to visit. ❤️❤️❤️
