This is just "an idea"... Something I've thought about for literally years...who would go on a Saturday group hike? Wether it was 20 of us or 100? Set up camp at Doris campground at lake quanah Parker anytime you a arrive on Friday...(for those who hike but don't camp show up Saturday morning)...then Saturday morning we all go on a group hike on a pre determined trail chosen by us all? Would anyone be interested...would anyone think it would work....maybe in an April past spring break and not too cold...but before memorial day so it's not too crowded and hot?? Mingle around the campgrounds ..meet new friends..share mountain stories...like I said...it's just an idea.. Who would be up for this?
Mt. Scott was named for this man. General Winfield Scott. (1786-1866). He served as a General in the U.S. Army longer than any other person in American history. Over his 53year career he commanded forces in the war of 1812..the Black Hawk War...The Mexican-American war..and more! He was the Army's senior officer at the start of the American Civil War and lived to see the Union win. He is buried at West Point.
Pic says " the old Apache chief Geronimo killing buffalo"....it says it was copyrighted in 1909...seeing how Geronimo died in February of 1909 its possible the picture could've been from the year before that. ( Pic from Oklahoma State Archives)
