Once my laughter subsided, an unending stream of questions about the billboard (erected in 2006) sprang to mind: Do I admire the good Reverend’s chutzpah? Yes. Does he have every right to publish a shaky syllogism in the town square? Absolutely • What occurrence, if any, motivated the Reverend to undertake this billboard? Did a parish review committee, consisting of more than the Reverend and his secretary, approve the message? What did the Reverend seek to accomplish by way of antagonistic logical fallacy? Is the invocation of pejoratives to describe nonbelievers consistent with his role as alter Christus? How, if it all, did local Atheist groups react? Perhaps a responsive billboard, “Attention Fanatical Theocrats and their Reverends...”? • Was there a decisive moment in modern American history that emboldened citizens to abandon traditional diplomacy and respectful dialogue in favor of going for the opposition’s jugular (referring to all races/creeds/socioeconomic strata/political parties here)? If so, will someone DM a link to the longevity study that highlights positive outcomes from the approach? Will someone explain the escalation to Civil War and do I need to leave California for the Midwest? Do I, in fact, have family in West Virginia? My conclusion is that I need to stop thinking too much about billboards • Editor’s note: While I am a devout Catholic, my significant other was raised Mormon, identifies as Atheist, and strives to be Agnostic. My Faith is what he admires most about me. If I had a dime for every Aquinas-based reason and faith discussion he initiates, I would have at least two dollars. He respects my freedom to believe in God and practice my Faith, and I respect his freedom not to.

Happy Monday! I have not a clue what rabbit hole I dropped down to discover the #Sketchplanations (<- #portmanteau) website and then Instagram @sketchplanations. The artist-engineer, Jono Hey, explains concepts via sketch. Hey covers concepts and theories in the following categories- * Cognitive bias * Framework * Words/Grammae * What’s the difference between * Food and drink * Ideas * Drawing * Nature * Observation * Investing • Swipe left to see samples. I cannot believe I went 37 years without knowing the math trick in Image 8! Hey’s Instagram account shows a mere snippet of the whole portfolio. I highly recommend subscribing for weekly emails and visiting Hey’s website www.sketchplanations.com (linked in our story), so that you may read expanded descriptions with links to further reading. Whether you are a visual learner or simply have a curious mind, I highly recommend you investigate this resource. If you are an educator in search of visual aids, licensing fees for Hey’s content are quite reasonable.

As a corollary, a lady knows when it is time to leave.  This has never been an issue for me.  My social history could be entitled, The Irish Exit:  A Practicum • Scene: [Party at the Mikell House.  Around midnight, P retreats upstairs and connects with Yankee Lu] * P:  I’m so tired * Lu:  Everyone is still there? * P:  Yes * Lu:  Flip the breaker switch. That’ll get them out. * [pregnant pause] * Lu: Or yell ‘fire’!?... * P:  I thought I’d blow out the candles and walk them to their cars * Lu: Suit yourself. • The complete interview with tips 1-5 on, “How to Act Like a ‘Southern Charm’ Belle with Patricia Altschul” is linked in our story. Eighteen thousand, six hundred and twenty eight days ago; 447, 072 hours ago; 26, 824, 320 minutes ago; or more directly, June 2, 1968. A 10+pound blue eyed, sandy blonde haired boy, Whitney Sudler, was born to Patricia Dey and Lon Smith * Just before Whitney entered the world, Helen Keller exited.  Simon & Garfunkel’s, Mrs.Robinson, was the #1 song on the radio.  The Double Helix by James Watson was the top selling book, and What Maisie Knew was the most popular show on American television. • The name Whitney derives from an Old English locational name in a place near Hay in Herefordshire, White Island.  First recorded as Witenie in the Domesday Book of 1086.  Later seen as Witteneye, Wytenye, Wyttenye.  The first incident of the now well-settled spelling of the name is as a surname in the Oxford University Registrar for Henry Whitney in 1604.  John Whitney is the first known expatriate to America who reached the shores of New England in 1635 • Since America began recording names in the 1880s, 102,629 babies appropriated the name Whitney.  Of those, 3576 were boys.  In 1968, Whitney was the #810 most popular name for boys.  The most popular year on record for the male Whitney was 1986 when 345 boys assumed the moniker. • Born in the Chinese year of the monkey on a Sunday when the sun rose at at 5:25AM, and the sun set at 8:22PM.  Whitney is a Gemini ascendant in Libra, descendant in Aries with a sun in Gemini and a moon in Leo. His lucky numbers are 9, 40, 36, 31, 1, 32. Life path number is 5 • Family, friendships, money, and health will be good for most of Whitney’s long life; but he will struggle with shoulder pain. What will seem like undiagnosed food allergies is a reaction triggered by topical contact with a substance he has yet to identify. Watch for rhinitis and gastritis, Love will come more slowly. A Gemini male should expect nothing but trouble from Leo, Virgo, and Pisces. Whitney’s true love will likewise be born in the year of the monkey and carry the compatible sign of Libra, Aquarius, Aries. An Aries Mother is his astrological totem. Hell hath no fury like the spiritual warfare unleashed by an Aries Mother when you disrespect her only son✌🏻

A little dog history for you on this fine Throwback Thursday to celebrate Siegfr
A little dog history for you on this fine Throwback Thursday to celebrate Siegfried and Roy! Swipe left for a then and now • Twenty seven years after the death of her beloved Albert, Queen Victoria fell in love again on a trip to Florence. A sable haired male, Marco, caught her eye - it was love at first sight. Marco was an Italian Volpino, a spitz breed, who reminded her of a smaller version of Queen Charlotte’s faithful canine companions. When Queen Victoria returned to England, she did so with Marco and three of his furry friends • Larger spitz breeds include Alaskan Malamute, Eskimo Dog, Chow Chow, Siberian Husky.  In Queen Charlotte’s day, these large working dogs were bred down to serve the purpose of companionship.  This is thought to have occurred in a region known as Pomerania, which stretched from modern North Poland to East Germany.  The word Pomerania derives from Slavic *po more*, meaning Land by the Sea.  As the breed became smaller in size, they adopted the eponymous “Pomeranian.” In 1761, George III was awaiting coronation when his 17 year old bride-to-be, Charlotte from the Duchy of Mecklenburg, a German territory adjacent to Pomerania, brought her beloved dogs along to her new country. While Queen Victoria is rightly credited for popularizing Pomeranians, Queen Charlotte’s role should not be underestimated • A description of Pomeranians from the Victorian Era: “They have a long, thick coat that seems to stand out from the body, a tail which curls tightly and lies close to the back, a foxy head, small, erect ears, rather short legs, short back, and a generally square and thick-set appearance, in spite of which, however, they are active as kittens.” • Breed highlights from The American Kennel Club (AKC): Height:  6-7 inches Weight:  3-7 pounds Life expectancy:  12-16 years Needless to say, Siegfried and Roy are slightly above average in size.  This means that Boo Boo is slightly more than slightly above average in size. He is what is known as a throwback Pom. In other words, Boo Boo more closely resembles his royal predecessors. I am entirely serious.

The Southern Charm Season 6 premiere episode features a close up of an oil paint
The Southern Charm Season 6 premiere episode features a close up of an oil painting in the master bedroom by renowned American (Southern) painter, Donald Roller Wilson. A second portrait by Wilson is on display in the entry hall.  The character in both is an anthropomorphized primate, inspired by Cookie the Baby Orangutan as Carmen Miranda.  Swipe left to see the portraits with perspective and close up • Wilson adopts the polished style of an Old Master to depict eccentric subject matter in the form of primates, cats and dogs in whimsical costume, usually smoking.  The synergy of technique and subject leads to sensational pop realism, or kitsch in its highest form • Donald Roller Wilson’s work was first introduced to Miss P by Jack Nicholson. His portraits are included in many of the most celebrated art collections in the world, and on display at the Brooklyn Museum, Chicago Art Institute, and Smithsonian to name a few. A short list of Wilson collectors is posted in our story, along with a link to his gallery • Followers regularly inquire about the wallpaper and fabric in the master bedroom. The pattern is “Melon Toile” in cornflower blue by Manuel Canovas.  At last check, the pattern/color had been discontinued.  Please correct me if I am wrong or if you have another source. Now you know why I prefer to drink my morning espresso on the floor and not the upholstered furniture. I assume no risk where an item cannot be replaced which makes the Mikell House a veritable landmine.

The valedictorian of Memphis, Tennessee’s Raleigh Egypt High School, Tupac Mosle
The valedictorian of Memphis, Tennessee’s Raleigh Egypt High School, Tupac Mosley, graduated with a 4.3 GPA and more than 50 scholarships worth ~$3 million. Remarkable but not unheard of, but his circumstances make Tupac’s testimony unique • Mosley’s family always struggled with finances due, in part, to his father’s poor health. Mr.Mosley’s death caused the family to fall woefully behind on bills and led to being evicted from the family home in February. Still mourning the death of his father, Tupac bounced from place to place until finding a stable shelter at For the Kingdom (@ftkmemphis). At graduation, Tupac shared that he would soon have a fixed address and will matriculate to Tennessee State University in the Fall • “Your location is not your limitation. Anything that is a blockade is not something you can’t overcome.” #TupacMosley, a Southern icon in the making. Congratulations 👨🏾‍🎓🙌🏼 🎉

Who knew that the United States was behind the curve on reality television resources? @hayuuk is a streaming service that offers almost exclusively reality television across all networks owned by @nbc Over 6000 episodes in its library and most episodes airing on linear tv are available on Hayu the same day • Hayu was incorporated in the UK, then expanded to Ireland and Australia in rapid succession. It has since spread to Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Canada. NBC does not presently have plans to launch the service in the US • This #SouthernCharm advertisement is a repost from @hayucanada where the service costs $5.99 CAD (~$4.50 USD) a month. I love the British narrator mixed with the Southern accents. I love it almost as much as the crab pinching Shep. I hope they liberated the brave crustacean. Shep would be well-served to focus his attention on dating women who grew up with at least one brother, preferably younger. They will better understand what possesses him to do such things.

The cover may look old, but it is an new article for Town and Country, “Patricia Altschul’s Very Specific Guide to Traveling in Style.” It never surprises me to learn something new from P about how to be exquisite. It always surprises me when anyone to offers a new approach to pathogenic prophylaxis. I hope everyone reads this article, if only to keep in mind that every point of contact while traveling presents a bacterial scourge. Less clinically, P offers a handful of classic anecdotes. Picture her bracing for impact on the Concord while amuse-bouche is flying through the air... In addition, a host of new products for us to try, images of a vast Louis Vuitton collection, heirloom silk accoutrement, and more. Swipe left for a sneak peek. A link to the article is in our bio and story. Thank you in advance for reading!

A tutorial on “Michael’s Perfect Martini” for you to sip on during tomorrow even
A tutorial on “Michael’s Perfect Martini” for you to sip on during tomorrow evening’s premiere of Southern Charm 8/7c, and Watch What Happens Live at 11/10c • Gin: Beefeater Vermouth: Boisserie Garnish: Meyer Lemon, preferably from trees shading your piazza Tools: Mallet, Lewis Ice Bag, citrus peeler, Baccarat crystal martini glass, and 18th century silver cocktail shaker • Deposit regular sized ice cubes into the cocktail shaker, then pour in your desired amount of gin and a splash of vermouth. P takes hers down the middle. Let sit. Use citrus peeler to add a twist of lemon to the martini glass, then rim the circumference with the peeled lemon. Remember that every sip should be taken from a different point of the glass • Having used the mallet to crush ice in the Lewis Ice Bag, add the reformed ice slivers atop the lemon rind. Return to the cocktail shaker and use a firm wrist to shake with pizazz, then decant and present with Léron cocktail napkin • “Vodka is made out of a lowly potato, and gin has 18 botanicals, you know, there's 18 of them. So, when I say 'medicine,' I mean it.” She really does • Southern Charm Season 3, Episode 1 Video credit @nbc
