Taking a break inside an ice cave at Apostle Islands National Seashore, Cornucopia, Wisconsin. Great place to visit but rare that weather allows it--has to be reeeeeeally cold for Lake Superior to freeze over in the winter. This particular year was a "go" but only for 9 days total. Lake Superior rarely freezes over...thankfully park officials in Cornucopia, WI get out and measure the thickness to determine safety before people start wandering across the expansive ice to reach the ice caves on the faraway shoreline. But the freaky part is listening to the rumbling grumbling ice colliding into each other beneath your feet as you slide across the ice. And it can get quite LOUD!
