How I feel when I’m surrounded by dramatic, pointy rocks. ↡↡↡↡↡↡↡↡↡↡↡↡ Currently missing the beautiful Grand Teton National Park as I wrap up a blog post on our adventures in Wyoming. Look for my new post tomorrow that includes a quick guide to camping in the Tetons.
Five years ago, this spot used to be my escape. Where I’d run to when I felt the anxiety creeping in, when I needed to break free from the societal pressure of running the rat race. After 14 months of world travel, discovering my true self and reaching new levels of happiness, I returned home to Chicago and it never felt right. Yes, I loved the city, my family and friends, but I had grown and this city didn’t feel like home anymore. So I left. I booked a one-way ticket to Peru to meet a guy I once dated in Melbourne. I believe it all had its purpose. I needed to return home to realize this wasn’t my home anymore. And now, four years later I’m in the exact spot I used to sprint to. I’m looking at the same view, but now I’m with my own family, watching my daughter run around the sand where I used to meet friends to play volleyball. Sometimes on those hard days, it’s impossible to see the future, but never let go of your dreams. It may take years to reach them, but I promise if you follow your heart, you will arrive at exactly where you are supposed to be. 🖤
Wow. One simple word, one incredible meaning. For the past year, @ryan_domenico and I have taken our girl to some awe-inspiring places and recently Lia started doing something that makes us both proud. The simple gesture of saying “Wow” when seeing a breathtaking view. From waking up in her stroller to see the blue sea to reaching a viewpoint on a trail in the Tetons, this girl exclaims “Wow.” People may say traveling with a toddler is hard work and I agree, but I promise you, it’s worth it. Check out my latest blog on traveling with a toddler on long-haul flights. And don’t fret, you’ll survive because you have to 😆. Feel free to add any input below! And as always, happy wandering x
Our chef, our photographer, our captain of adventure, today like each and every day, we are grateful for you. Thanks for being the best father to our Lia bean - my favorite part of parenting is watching the love and laughter between you two. We love you across all the galaxies and back. Happy Father’s Day ♥️ x, your girls
Today marks my annual trip around the sun and I have one big wish for everyone reading this! 🎂 𝐈 𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲. Donate to help the Amazon (@rainforestalliance, see below for more ways), register to vote and/or get someone else to register, skip the meat and dairy sections on your weekly supermarket shop, offset your carbon emissions from your last flight, grab some beeswax wraps (they’re seriously amazing), try a shampoo bar like @ethiqueworld, for the love of god stop buying plastic water bottles (I’m talking to you USA), refuse plastic, shop local - I could honestly go on for ages. Let me know how you are completing my birthday wish by sending me a message, posting a story or simply promising to make a small change. Thanks for taking the time to read this and thanks for the continual support and love. ♥️ For more ways to help the Amazon: Protect an acre of the Rainforest (@rainforestactionnetwork) which supports indigenous tribes. BRB. Running away from winter straight back to summer in the wild Tetons. But in all seriousness, winter blues + a gross cold + post-traveler blues do not mix well together. I know it’s inevitable after a trip like we had, but I sure do miss those long summer days. Currently grateful for hot tea, Netflix and a toddler that always brightens my mood. Time to shake it off, go soak up some kiwi nature and start planning the next adventure!
And just like that, we’re back! After 3.5 weeks flying all over the States celebrating, camping, and seeing friends and family, we have returned to our little New Zealand haven. After seven years of saying goodbyes not knowing when the next reunion would be, I would always feel super anxious boarding the plane. But since having our baby girl that unsettling feeling is gone and this time around I was actually happy at the airport knowing we were heading home. Of course it’s hard to be away and it’s sucks to say goodbye, but it reassures me that we’ve made the right decision by calling this paradise our home.
Into the enchanted forest we go... While visiting Egmont National Park, we decided to explore some new areas including this trail called the Enchanted Track. How insane is this moss-covered tree?!! If fairies exist, they definitely live here. ♥️
“Never go in search of love, go in search of life, and life will find you the love you seek.” - @atticuspoetry Teaching our little Lia bean to chase big dreams, big mountains and big ambitions in the best possible way. Our road might not be full of fancy things, but as long as it’s full of love, experience and nature, I think we’ll do just fine. PSA: Always be extra cautious when taking road shots. This snap was at sunrise on a country road with almost no cars. We could see far in each direction and only stood in this spot for seconds.

So where are we off to after our big States adventure? To MEXICO! We’ll be celebrating our friends’ wedding in beautiful Riviera Cancun, then off to chase azul-colored waters and enchanting cenotes. Next step in the planning stage is searching for the perfect place to stay. While we stuff our faces with tacos on the beach, you could be doing the same by booking your own homestay and getting a 40 NZD kickback on Booking.com. This funny little bunny is soooo close to walking and this Mama is not ready for it. One of the best parts of motherhood is watching your little one reach new milestones. We encourage, clap and cheer for her and when we say good job, she claps for herself. So this is just a little reminder to make sure you’re rooting for your own team. Celebrate your personal wins regardless how small they are, take a second to appreciate yourself and what you’ve accomplished even if it’s just putting away last weeks laundry. Here’s to you.
We are one month away from our next big holiday! Not only are we celebrating my best friend’s wedding and reuniting with family and friends, we are off to explore a new state and National Park. To find a home away from home, we are in search of the perfect place to stay in Wyoming with the help of @Bookingcom. Did you know you can search homes and apartments, choosing places to suit your needs? With our Lia bean we love having access to a kitchen to cook homemade meals and a separate bedroom so we can all get the sleep we need. Are you planning your next getaway? For the last few months, we’ve been trying to plan a trip to the dramatic, moody Mount Taranaki. When a window of clear weather and schedules opened up, we didn’t hesitate to hop in the car and drive up to Egmont National Park. Our trip was short, but oh so worth it. On this night we hiked up to the everso popular Pouakai Tarns where we were met with a massive cloud covering our beloved peak. We stuck around, did some cloud-shifting dance moves, and just as the final light set behind us, the cloud lowered to reveal this captivating peak. Thanks Mr. Taranaki for coming out to play, we love you so. ♥️
