Tbh, I was looking for Lizzie McGuire and Isabella during the whole time I was in Rome. Mission: Fail. However, I did get to see this amazing fountain, and I was able to make a wish. I may be jinxing myself, but the wish hasn’t come true yet. 😩😂 . . . . . #doyoutravel#amateurphotography#shotonaniphone7#shotoniphone#fountain#rome#90sbaby#tvshowreference#femaleblogger#travelblogger#bloggergirl#bloggersofinstagram#bloggercommunity#seetheworld#traveler#travelbug#travelgram#travelphotography#lovetotravel#trevifountain#womenwhotravel#wanderer#wanderlust#travelmore#travels#travel_captures

Whenever I’m not on the road or in the air, I like to find things to do in either North or South Carolina. This past summer, I went to a Paramore concert with my little sister. I enjoyed listening to music and dancing to it even though I didn’t understand all of the words. Whenever, I attend a concert, I think about the fact that the music is loud and people are screaming as they are enjoying being in the presence of their favorite band or singer. With all of that, I wonder if there are times when other people don’t understand what’s being sung either. So, I thought about how many people could benefit from amphitheaters and stadiums putting subtitles or closed captions on their Jumbotron or projector. . . . . #lifestyleblogger#travelblogger#deaf#deafblogger#hearingloss#paramore#concert#throwbackthursday#deaftraveler#ilovemusic#music#event#epic#fun#hadablast#afterlaughtersummertour#fosterthepeople#accessibility#raisingawareness#bloggersofinstagram#bloggers#bloggercommunity#bloggergirl#mythoughts#throwbacktolastsummer

One question that people constantly ask me is, “How can you understand what I’m saying?” My answer: I can read lips pretty well. There are times when I can understand someone and have a full conversation with them about anything. However, some people can be very difficult to understand because of a few reasons: a heavy beard, talking wayyyyy too fast, and not moving their mouth well enough to make out any words (mumbling). Luckily, I never go anywhere without my phone, so I can use my notes app to help make the conversation flow better. . . . . . I’m opening up a Q/A in my Instagram stories, so if you have questions about anything relating to hearing loss or deafness, feel free to ask! P.S. I don’t bite! 😂 #deaf#hearingloss#hardofhearing#deafblogger#travelblogger#lifestyleblogger#bloggersofinstagram#blogger#doyoutravel#iamatraveler#imatraveler#girlsborntotravel#femaletraveler#citizenfemme#deaftraveler#traveler#travelbug#qanda#askmeanything#lovetotravel#tlpicks#bloggercommunity

How do you guys communicate with locals whenever you’re in a country that’s new to you? I used Google Translate a few times during my long weekend visit to Venice. • • Story: I booked an Airbnb in a suburb near the city because I wanted to save money and not have to deal with hotel fees. The hosts were nice and provided my friend and me with bus passes, a map, and directions on how to get to Venice from the Airbnb. Since the directions sounded very straightforward and easy, we thought that we would be fine making our way to the city. After putting our things away in our rooms, we decided to go check Venice out because it was early in the evening, so fewer crowds. We took a bus to the train station to take a train into the city. We spent a few hours walking around and taking pictures. It was getting late, so we took the train back to the suburbs then hopped on a bus. The next day was spent on traveling to Rome by train for a few hours. We decided to use our last full day in Venice since we knew how to get there. For some reason, we decided to take the bus instead of the train. It didn’t really matter, right? Oh, how naive we were!?! What we didn’t know is that the buses in Italy tend not to run on a set schedule. It took us a while before we realized that we had to walk a few miles to get on the bus because it didn't come to our bus stop. Then, when we got on the bus, our passes didn’t work! Apparently, the passes only worked for a day. A sweet lady saw us struggling to understand why our passes weren’t working, so she kept trying to tell us what to do. We were only able to understand bits and pieces of she was saying due to her repeating herself and using gestures. Finally, an idea popped into my mind. I whipped my phone out and pulled up Google Translate. First, I set the translation up for it to translate Italian into English then gave my phone to the woman. She knew what I was doing and typed out everything on the app. As she was typing I was looking over her shoulder, and I could see the English version. She was telling us to follow her to the bus depot so that she could help us get new passes! We ended up getting new passes and made it to Venice safely!

I occasionally like to go to museums or historical sites whenever I'm in a new country because they help me understand more about where I am. I took this picture while I was in Germany because I had dealt with some issues during my time there, and I wanted to show people what it was like for me. Even though Germany is a very modern country, it lacks in accessibility for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. I couldn't use the headphones that were given to us so, that we could listen to the audio tracks inside the silver headphone jack. I was very disappointed because I really wanted to learn more about Germany's culture. Y'all see where I'm pointing at in the picture? I think it would have been a great spot to put a small digital screen that would provide a transcript of the audio. . . . . . #deafblogger#thisismylife#travelblogger#travelingwithadisability#blogger#lifestyleblogger#advocacyblogger#deaf#hearingloss#accessibility#bloggersofinstagram#bloggercommunity#museum#readthecaption#disappointed#deafcommunity#femaletraveler#girlswhotravel#deafissues#deaftravel#bloggerlife#femaletravelbloggers#bloggers#deafawareness#deaftravelworld_#bloggergirl#germanytourism#bloggerdiaries#bloggergram#raisingawareness

I’m always having to appease the daredevil side of me! One of the reasons why I love doing crazy and spontaneous things is because I have a mantra, “Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do anything.” I started living by the mantra when I was in my senior year of high school because I got so tired and fed up of people constantly telling me that I couldn’t do something because of my hearing loss. I took this picture when my study abroad group and I were on the way back to our hotel after eating a delicious dinner at a restaurant called Ottenthal in Berlin, Germany. The main focus of the photo is the electronic sign that is displaying which S-Bahn is on the way to the platform. It also shows how many minutes until you’ll be able to get on the S-Bahn. One cool thing about this sign is that it shows you the route above the S-Bahn’s name. It may not mean something to other people, but during my time in Germany, I relied on these signs. As a person who has hearing loss, you have to rely on your other senses. Therefore, the reason why I have to see everything that I’m hearing. Whenever we would be taking a bus, metro, train, or S-Bahn, I would always look at the signs to see where it would take us to, because when I’m inside the public transportation, I can’t understand the automated voice that calls out each stop’s name. There were some occasions where my habit of reading every platform sign helped because I have had to step up and help some of my classmates know when to get off a train or metro. If I hadn’t trained myself to look at the signs, I wouldn’t have been utilizing my strategies as a deaf person. #travelblogger#adaptandovercome#deaf#deaftraveler#femaletraveler#girlswhotravel#lifestyleblogger#instagramblogger#hearingloss#overcomingobstacles#overcomeobstacles#missingasense#bloggergal#myjourney#bloggercommunity#deafpeopledotravel#deafcandoanything#mylife#girlswhowander#femaletravelbloggers#deaftravel#mythoughts#disability#accessibility#longcaption#readthecaption#southernblogger#deafblogger#bloggersofinstagram#welcometomylife

Well, it’s Monday! Time for a new week! Oh, wait, a certain holiday is coming up on Thursday. Valentine’s day! Current mood (dancing) because I’m finally making progress with my job search. I found some jobs that seem very interesting and might be a good fit for me. To be honest, I should have started looking a while back ago, but I wasn’t ready to admit to myself that I will be moving on after graduating from Clemson. It’s like a door that's in front of me is cracked open a little, but I can’t see what’s behind it. So scary and nerve-wracking. Yes, I’m deaf, but it doesn’t define who I am. My personality is what I hope people see first before noticing that I talk a little funny. Okay, I do talk a little weird not only because of my hearing loss, but because I have NO filter. LOL! I'm always saying whatever I'm thinking about at the moment. It doesn't help that I'm a loud talker by nature. I also laugh at myself a lot because, hey, I’m freaking hilarious, k?! Well, I've had enough of talking about me. Do you struggle with defining who you are as a person? Have you ever felt like people didn't see you for who you are? Confession: I love sunsets so much that I bought a tank top with a sunset design on it. Hey, when you see something you like, ya gotta get it. 🤷🏾‍♀️ ⠀⠀ • ⠀⠀ The back story of this picture: I spent a few days in Florida for my birthday a few years ago. I was visiting a friend who lives down there. We decided to go to Bluewater Bay to watch the sunset and take pictures. We ended up taking a lot of shots, which is good because I think you should never settle for the first one unless the other ones are not good enough.
