Two things learnt yesterday. 1. Need to be stronger 2. Need to get better at using my heels. . I love trying stuff that is just beyond me and needs working. I enjoy the process and it motivates me to keep training. . Bus Stop, 7B+, uses a heel to stay on for quite a big move to a jug but I learnt something about heel hooks yesterday - they can be passive (I’m ok at this) or active (not so good at this, well, awful really). I’m not a natural boulderer, but I enjoy it these days and it is super beneficial for my other climbing. . It’s been a long time since I’ve posted 🗓 After the car accident in 11/18, I tried to get back to the gym way too quickly, and I just wasn’t recovering the way I could have. So after talking it over with my physical therapist, I decided to take a long break and then move pretty slowly once I did get back. Rather than bore y’all with all that turtle stuff 🐢, I just kept quiet. But now the focus is on getting back in the swing of things, so enjoy a successful 145# squat and a missed 150# one, too. 😅

Excuse my atrocious nails haha. For the past few months I haven’t really been strength training. I got sick for two months back in February and worked on a wrist injury I’ve had since summer of 2018. I never really let it rest fully because I was stubborn. I didn’t want to lose the muscle mass I had, get weak, or look not as fit. The misconception on injury is that you will immediately revert. While it is unfortunate that you do revert, it does NOT happen in the blink of an eye. Like gaining muscle or getting fit, it also takes time. My body was also metabolically used to eating a lot of calories since I burn off a lot initially. I have been trying to restore as much biomechanical balance to myself as I can. I have been working on imbalance and I let my wrist heal. These exercises help build wrist strength. The first video is elbow pronation and supination. This exercise is precursor to the other two (wrist flexion in video two and wrist extension in video three). Why is it elbow pronation/supination and not wrist? Well this is because of the anatomy of which joints are actually moving in this position. Notice that your whole forearm rotates as well when you move your wrist in this motion. Now try to do the motion with your wrists without moving the forearm (hint: you can’t). Ensure that you increase the supination and pronation first before increasing flexion and extension. Excuses are really easy. Especially when it comes to working out. I get SO self conscious being a fat person doing any kind of activity outside. And today I made some excuses, binged a little, went over calories. But I counted it all. I have 8 weeks to really focus on me and not be making excuses. I have been doing better on swimming but I need to be walking and running again. I have @thecolorrun in August, @giantrace in September, and @sjicecreamrun in October. Last time I did the ice cream run I was dead last.
