You'll get bulky, if you lift weights: False. This is a lie that has been told for years. Female bodies, magical and wonderful though they may be, are simply not built the same. Women  dont have the same testosterone profile as males. Let me elaborate a little. Testosterone is the primary male sex hormone, and promotes the development of male secondary sex characteristics like muscle and bone growth. And although women secrete testosterone too, most men produce a lot more than adult women. As a result, females simply cannot physiologically reach the same muscle hypertrophy (size) as guys. (Unless they are doing some serious, illegal supplementation…but that’s another post for another day.) So this one is pretty simple: Women just don’t have as much testosterone as guys do. Thier muscles will respond to strength training stimuli by increasing in size—but thier bodies simply won’t support huge, “bulky” musculature. 💥Kettlebell HIIT⁣ 💥⠀ ⁣⠀ On Monday morning I posted to on my story the result of a simple HIIT workout I'd done. Alongside it I said train smarter, not harder. A few of you lovely people reached out to me asking what workout I'd done and could I post more. So here it is.⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ This is a super simple workout - all you need is two kettlebells and some space. No rest between movements (so go from row straight to RDL etc), 1 round is all 5 movements and take max 90 seconds rest between rounds. Complete 5-8 rounds as appropriate.⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ I really like this as a finisher to tag on at the end of a workout (if I'm up to it) but it also works really well as a standalone HIIT workout you can get done in a pinch. But a heat wave or stormy weather doesn’t mean you have to abandon your workout. Here are some great strategies to get your PA when being outside isn’t an option. 1. Walk inside a mall If the weather turns ugly, don’t use it as an excuse not to get your PA. Take it inside and try walking the mall. Time how long it takes to complete a loop and then try to beat it the next time around. 2. Try one of the many workouts on YouTube, or TV They are free and available 24 hours a day. You can find one for every skill level and it can add variety to your typical routines. 3. Consider buying a piece of exercise equipment Having a treadmill, exercise bike, stair machine, or rowing machine takes weather out of the equation. Set it up in front of a TV and watch your favorite shows while you get your PA. 4. Go to the gym If you get in the habit of going regularly, it can be well worth the cost of membership.
