One of the most overlooked aspects of a workout routine is the #warmup ; Specifically the Pre-Exercise Warm Up. 💪 ⠀ -⠀ Stick to these 5 Rules of Warming Up for the Truth to More Strength 👇 #Derrimut247⠀ -⠀ 1⃣ Start at the Bar:⠀ For your barbell exercises, start with just the bar. This lets you focus on speed and technique, two of the main ingredients in building strength and size. It also fires up your nervous system to push some serious weight without fatiguing your muscles.⠀ -⠀ 2⃣ Increase in Roughly 20kg increments.⠀ If you increase your warm up weights with small increments, you’ll waste a lot of strength. Your muscle and nervous system can handle larger jumps; something in the 15 – 20kg range is perfect.⠀ -⠀ 3⃣ Never do more than 5 reps.⠀ Warmups sets work because of “progressive fiber recruitment,” which means acclimating your muscle fibers to increasingly heavy weight. This means they only need a sip of a heavy weight, not a chug.⠀ Pushing out too many reps, however, is overkill. The truth is five reps — even with the barbell — is plenty to activate your muscle fibers. Just be sure to focus on great speed and great technique.⠀ -⠀ 4⃣ Do fewer reps as you increase the weight.⠀ As you increase your weight, drop your reps down to doubles and singles. Regardless of how strong you are, anything over 225lbs is still a lot of weight — don’t waste your energy or risk injury by doing a 5 x 5 workout before you even get to your work weight. - 5⃣ Skip Cool Down Sets.⠀ Some people still believe you need “cool down” sets after doing your work weight. For example, after doing 8 sets x 5 reps of front squats with 80kg, some guys will do 60kg for eight or so reps. That, however, is completely unnecessary. I was shown this sequence 18 years ago and it has remained a staple. . . ◽️The Rotator Cuff comprises four small muscles working synergistically with the larger muscles of the shoulder girdle. It keeps the head of the Humerus 'centrated' in the socket, required for both optimal mechanics and prevention of injury/wear-and-tear. . . . 🔑 If this is new material, begin more simply by placing your index finger on the opposite shoulder, such that you can feel where the upper arm (ball) meets the socket. As the arm moves in different directions, note when the "ball" slides/shifts out of centre... Practise the series of six movements in this manner until you improve this awareness/sensitivity. When you do use resistance, note that going too heavy/too fast invites excessive input from the muscles surrounding the RC (I use 2.5kg/hand 90% of the time) 🔑 . . . ◽️Although upper-body/overhead sports' participants are an obvious group to benefit from these, really everyone with an upper body should, imho, be using them. Our bodies are complex integrations of many systems, working together in ways we are still only beginning to recognise -- everything is everything. . . . ◽️Placed early in the session, I like to accumulate 10-15 reps of each of the six movements (after clearing the joints).
