Facts: . ✅I take a nap prior to every training session. 15-45mins at least, depending on how tired I am. . ✅I take longer to get ready for the gym than I do for any other event. I plan my gym gear ahead of time. . ✅I always ensure I have enough food in my system prior to training. I have at least a minimum of 150carbs, 30fats, and around 100proteins beforehand. Throughout the years of training and experience I've gained, it's around these numbers that I feel has given me enough energy and strength to get through my entire workout which also includes a good long lasting pump. . ✅Without following specific steps of my routine, I can almost guarantee my workout will be complete garbage. Some of us are regulars when it comes to cracking our joints; mainly knuckles but also knees, elbows, necks, shoulders. Why do we do this ? Because it feels damn good haha ! A sense of relief flows through you when you finish a series of cracks. But is this causing long term damage to our bodies? . NO ! It is not. There have been no studies linking joint cracking with arthritis or anything else. There’s mild evidence that your hands could become swollen or weaker later in life but again there’s nothing that directly connects that. . The main source where the popping/cracking noise comes from either nitrogen bubbles from the fluid around our joints being released. Also, it can come from movement of ligaments around the joint. . Regardless, as long as you don’t have pain when your joints pop and crack, you have nothing to worry about !

[Deadlift Tip: Don’t Rip Off Your Spine]⁣ ⁣ If you’re not pulling the slack out of the bar at the start of the lift (in 99% of cases), you’re sacrificing tightness and potentially leaving pounds on the platform. ⁣ ⁣ Imagine towing a car out of a ditch. If you don’t pull the slack out of the tow line, you either rip off the tow point or wreck the cable. For a deadlift, your spine is the cable/tow point. A smooth tensioning leads to stronger pulling. ⁣ ⁣ Use your legs to pull about 25% of the weight of the bar up as you get tight and then once you’re in position, smoothly apply the gas pedal until you hit 100% and the bar moves. ⁣ ⁣ For online or in person coaching inquiries, send me an email at matt@strongeryoupt.com or via DM, don’t me about not locking these pulls out.

Here is a simple taco salad I made for dinner that hit the spot-with tweaks of course. 🌮 I swapped ground beef for turkey and a few black beans, used a ton of lettuce and fresh tomatoes (I am a major volume eater), only used a half a small avacado (healthy or not they add cals fast lol), swapped the sour cream for greek yogurt, and keep the cheese super low. That was 395lbs right before I hit 400lbs. My PR is 410lbs but that was back in 2016 in Hawaii that I hit that when I was dropping in at CrossFit Maui. Nice to know I’ve been able to stay somewhat consistent, lifting close to the same weight for 3yrs now. I 100% attribute it to the support of the CrossFit Community, especially my fitfam at @crossfitbc in Yaletown. If you’re looking to start down a path of healthy living I recommend joining a community and not a gym. There’s a huge difference. A community will motivate you, encourage you, support you and be there for you through your ups and downs. A gym will just take your money. Come work out with me anytime or ask me a question if you want to know anything about CrossFit gyms in the lower mainland. Happy #motivationmonday coming your way 💪 . Being a mom of 2 young boys, my life is very physically demanding. Mommy duties have left me with chronic shoulder and back issues 😒 . So it's important for me to have strong arms and shoulders and even more important to maintain mobility and balance in my upper body. . My first year postpartum (with Roman) was full of shoulder, neck, and back issues... I've rested, rehabbed, and reworked my training program to help with all those issues-- and have slowly pushed myself back to pressing 17.5lb DBs 😀😀 . As you guys know (from my stories), my shoulder and upper back went out again recently and I'm still recovering. 😒 . I don't know how many times I've "fallen" and "gotten back up again" with these issues-- and it's very tempting to quit or give up.... #motivationmonday A little throw back to Kelowna Classic in 2017 when I competed in my first natural bodybuilding show. I decided to compete in this show because I chose fitness as my career after I graduated and wanted to prove to myself that I have what it takes, mind, body, and knowledge. I entered my prep with no coach, no drugs, just a decade of training and weight cutting experiences, a lot of dedication, and faith. I gave everything I’ve got to be at my best. Ive kept all the promises that I made to myself during prep and proving to myself that I can follow through was the most satisfying feeling ever. I felt confident and in control of my actions. I learnt that excuses kill confidence, don’t practice what you don’t want to become. Do you find that when you have a sudden unplanned moment of peace that rush to unload the dishwasher or fold the laundry? In other words, instead of slowing down and enjoying the moment of peace you rush around trying to get as much done as possible!? : This is not a criticism, it’s amazing how much you do, but it’s a call to awareness. Self-care doesn’t always have to be a hot bath with candles, an intense workout, or meditation // TODAY it can be as simple as not rushing to get shit done. :
