Anyone who knows me knows that I love Skylab, almost to a point of obsession. Seen here in Rocket Park, the model of Skylab used in the tank for training astronauts underwater in preparation for their missions. The “USA” portion is the habitable part of Skylab, where astronauts ate, slept, and completed experiments (and, in the case of Skylab 4, where they went on strike). The large dish with the astronaut model on it is the Apollo Telescope Mount. ATM was a multi-spectrum solar observatory that was used to record over 150,000 successful exposures on film. Seeing this piece of history was mind blowingly awesome and I, at one point, couldn’t stop jumping up and down. - #nasa#apollo#skylab#science#spacestation#space#exploration#universe#sun#solar#orbit#technology#stem#spaceexploration#engineering

First time doing Virtual Reality and an Escape Room “ish” scenario. We split into teams (2 boys vs 4 girls) and in two separate rooms. From a space station we had to figure out how to save the Earth from a giant meteor. I learned that I really really love my friends, but we are dumb and don’t work well as a team lol I still don’t know how they did it, but the boys saved the world... while us girls got engulfed in a meteor. It was a super fun and surreal experience, lots of laughter with the bickering. #atomicescaperooms#tiberia#spacestation#virtualreality#endoftheworld#saveearth

7,000LY from earth lies The Eagle Nebula (catalogued as Messier 16 or M16, and as NGC 6611, and also known as the Star Queen Nebula and The Spire) is a young open cluster of stars in the constellation Serpens, discovered by Jean-Philippe de Chéseaux in 1745–46. Both the "Eagle" and the "Star Queen" refer to visual impressions of the dark silhouette near the center of the nebula, an area made famous as the "Pillars of Creation" photographed by the Hubble Space Telescope. The nebula contains several active star-forming gas and dust regions, including the Pillars of Creation, simply beautiful and simply breathtaking 💫✨🌙 # ➡️Follow us for more!⬅️ . . via @exogalaxies . . . #astronomia#universetoday#hubble#astrophoto#telescope#astronomer#astronomy#space#nightsky#astronaut#Spacegram#ig_astrophotography#exploration#liftoff#milkywaygalaxy#milkywaychasers#spaceshuttle#Spaceflight#planets#spacestation#photography#nightphotography#astro_photography_#longexposure#stargazing#solarsystem#launch

Climbing the tallest dunes in California. Death Valley National Park You would think that the human figure would give you a sense of scale. It helps, but it doesn't. This is not one dune with a dark peak. I'm on a lower dune that then goes down, then you go up again as you start climbing a second dune (darker in the picture) farther away. If I hadn't been all by myself, I probably would have done a few more daring things because this is one of those places that if you don't go euphoric in one way or another, you're mentally numb. This isn't the farthest I've been away from civilization on my own, but you don't need more than this to feel absolute solitude. Hope you like the panorama! I captured the scene while going solo by leaving the camera in "timelapse" mode, walking away, posing for twice the exposure time, then back HOPING to find where the camera was LOL!! Found among the rich starfields of the Milky Way, star cluster NGC 7789 lies about 8,000 light-years away toward the constellation Cassiopeia. A late 18th century deep sky discovery of astronomer Caroline Lucretia Herschel, the cluster is also known as Caroline's Rose. Its flowery visual appearance in small telescopes is created by the cluster's nestled complex of stars and voids. Now estimated to be 1.6 billion years young, the galactic or open cluster of stars also shows its age. All the stars in the cluster were likely born at the same time, but the brighter and more massive ones have more rapidly exhausted the hydrogen fuel in their cores. These have evolved from main sequence stars like the Sun into the many red giant stars shown with a yellowish cast in this lovely color composite. Using measured color and brightness, astronomers can model the mass and hence the age of the cluster stars just starting to "turn off" the main sequence and become red giants. Over 50 light-years across, Caroline's Rose spans about half a degree (the angular size of the Moon) near the center of the wide-field telescopic image. Looking at the image above is like looking into the future. What you see in the image is a planetary nebulae, a stellar remnant that stars like our sun leave behind when their life comes to an end. Only so much hydrogen can exist in a star, and one day it will run out. When this happens, the gravity of the star begins to crush it down, igniting further nuclear processes in the core that fuse helium together to form heavier elements. The star will expand to many times its original size, becoming what is called a red giant star. Because stars like our sun are not very massive, the fusion process does create nearly as many elements as it does in more massive stars. Because of this, stars of this mass do not go out in a supernova explosion. Rather, they expand until their gravity can no longer hold them together, and the outer layers of the star are blown off and form a shell of stellar material around the star called a planetary nebula. Inside the star, the core compresses and becomes a white dwarf star. # Follow us fore more . . via @astrophysics_ . . . #space#astronomia#universetoday#astronomer#astronomi#astrophotography#nightsky#astronomy#milkywaychasers#milkywayhair#milkywaypics#stargazing#planets#spacestation#launch#longexposure#Spacegram#night#spaceshuttle#interstellar#nightphotography

You can see drainage into the sea in the Betsiboka Estuary due to decimation of rainforests and coastal mangroves. Currently six humans are living and working on the orbiting lab, where important research and science is being conducted. Benefits of this work will not only advance life here on Earth, but will also help our efforts to send people deeper into the solar system than ever before. NASAが撮影した#宇宙 からみた#地球#🌏 壮大! #Repost@nasa ・・・ A room with Earth views! 🌎Earlier this week, astronaut Ricky Arnold (@astro_ricky) captured this spectacular view of our home planet while he was orbiting at a speed of 17,500 miles per hour. If you’re wondering where in the world this video was taken, it starts as the International Space Station (@ISS) is above San Francisco and moving southward through the Americas. Each day, the station completes 16 orbits of our home planet as the six humans living and working aboard our orbiting laboratory conduct important science and research. Their work will not only benefit life here on Earth, but will help us venture deeper into space than ever before.
