Speed work complete for this week 3 x 3 mile repeats with .5 mile recovery in between. Legs were hurting during and after this but a total of 11 miles in a different manner. Mixing it up like this is a nice change from pounding the pavement for the same distance all in one. Today was a bit of fail run day! I started off early wanting to get 5 miles completed. I felt really sluggish so cut it at 2km. . . 2nd attempt was to get a speed work session done on the treadmill... proper fail! I dropped my phone which knocked the emergency stop button! That just totally threw me and I couldn’t get back to the session! Got to 5K but slowest for a loooooooong time! . . Thought I’d redeem myself and do my catch up couple of miles outside! Still felt slow but a little happier! . Iv recently noticed that a lot of my clients have decreased scapula control and
Iv recently noticed that a lot of my clients have decreased scapula control and a loss of connection through their Scapulo-thoracic joint. This can be where a lot of shoulder dysfunction stems from. As you can see very clearly on my model, his scapula wings and has lost its connection medially (on the inside) and inferiorly (lower). The way to correct this is to do a lot of scapula setting and stabilisation exercises, starting isometrically and then adding movement in all planes of motion. What I am demonstrating, is a sneaky technique I like to use to facilitate the scapula-humeral rhythm, which can become “sticky” causing further shoulder dysfunction. I am guiding his shoulder blade to depress slightly and rotate,preventing it from trying to wing out, this allows for a much smoother shoulder movement, especially when transitioning into the higher ranges. I’m really enjoying my new routine of run-commuting...but my only concern is that I don’t think my outfit is BRIGHT enough!? 😬🤷🏻‍♂️ But, seriously, this is 1 of the best changes I’ve made with my life recently & I continue to reap the many mental & physical benefits from it. The benefits of starting to increase my uptake of CBD oil , magnesium and zinc. Prior to starting to use them regularly I struggled to get anywhere near 2 hours of deep sleep each night. I woke early this morning but the details above show why I felt more refreshed than normal. Hopefully this will help with recovery for tough training sessions and allow me train for longer. Once of the most overlooked recovery aids, 💤, needs to be prioritized for general well being and mindfulness. This is a nasty exercise as it really does attack the hamstrings!!! It can also be incorporated into your deceleration series. The key thing here is on the “push out” you take 3+secs to do it! Timing is key!!! You will get better strength gains this way. Don’t worry, You don’t have to do the single leg version, you can continue with the double leg roll in and roll out. I would much rather you keep form than rep out bad single leg versions. 1. Place feet on gym ball and keep toes pointing to the ceiling at all times and engage your core. 2. Arms out to the side and lift hips off the floor. 3. Pulling with your heels, roll the ball towards you. 4. Either roll out again with both feet or at this point take one leg off and slowly (3+ secs) roll gym ball back. Don’t let your hips rotate, Keep them level. 5. I was super excited to try out some new running gear tonight 😁 I absolutely love my new delivery of @hyggebands, and just had to test the #runlikeagirl one first, made me smile when I saw it 🏃🏼‍♀️ can’t wait to use the others. I also got to try out my new super colourful Ronhill tights - I was spoilt by the hubby on this one, he just bought them for me out of the blue #luckywifey 💕 just love them, super funky and so comfy. ~ Felt 100% back on form tonight, I think a solid 6 hours sleep helped that, imagine how I’d feel if I got 8 hours 🤔🙌🏻 ~ Hubby back on the kettlebell exercises tonight: 100 swings, shoulders, chest and tricep dips 💪 he is already seeing and feeling the benefit of the exercise, maybe next year I’ll challenge him to ‘The 200’ 😋 ~ #mummarunner#newrunninggear

Catching up on yesterday’s missed run. I spent the day in Morrisons doing bag packing yesterday to raise funds for @dementiarevolution. The squad raised a staggering £1539 in the few hours we were there for. That’s taken me over my minimum for the charity place so everything after this is a real boost for the charity. Can’t wait to get on with the next few months of adding to that total. Nice zone 3 run tonight. It felt flowing and relaxed and I really enjoyed it. Good to be finding my stride again in this training block. The Wendover Woods 50 is my first @centurionrunning race since my DNF 66 miles into last year's North Downs Way 100. . This time I'm going to a) finish and b) beat the cut offs. I have a "that would be great" time in mind but I'll be really happy just to get it done. Running 50 miles isn't easy and this one has 10,000 feet of elevation gain too! . I've been working on race nutrition this year and will be relying on the tried and trusted @go33shake pre-race shake and gels and @chiacharge flapjacks to keep me going, topped up with some treats from the aid stations. . Long run complete and the only thing that got me through was this @crepe_cuisine in Ballincollig Regional Park. The plan was to stick to 7 min miles and then marathon pace for the last two but the headwind and a tough weeks training put paid to those thoughts. Some days it works out like that. -Anyway if you haven’t tried these crepes you have no idea what you missing out on. Savory,Sweet or just plain old crepes but they are so good. I went for the Italian Chicken which is topped with pesto and vegtables. And in this oyster shell period of my life when I never have enough time to sleep, work on (and eventually finish) my projects and be with the ones I love, my perspective widened for a moment, while listening to a great life story of Slovenian alpinist who climbed Mont Everest and all the highest mountains on all continents, named a few peaks in South Pole, wrote some books and in the meantime saw all the beauty and misery of Nepal and its people. Demonstrated is a great subscapularis release. Now I do use this a lot, not because I am mean, but because the range of movement gains are immense. It is a very tender area to be working on, so when doing the release you need to always start light and then build the pressure. Subscapularis is part of your rotator cuff, argued to be the strongest of the 4 rotator cuff muscles, with its main job being to stabilise the shoulder to prevent dislocation and also help with medial/internal rotation of the shoulder. It’s origin is on the anterior (front) surface of the scapula (shoulder blade) and inserts into the lesser tubercle of the humerus, hence why I have to unfortunately go through the armpit to reach it. When this muscle gets angry....the whole efficiency of the shoulder complex can be compromised. The first photo is me testing the client’s available range. The next set photo is the range after Iv applied the release, (The range improvement shown is into external rotation as it demonstrates how much we have released from her “go too” position (medial) highlighting the tightness within subscapularis) The client needs to isometrically contract with the intention of medially rotating the shoulder whilst I resist that movement, but at the same time apply pressure/friction to the subscapularis. The isometric contraction of the subscapularis helps me locate/palpate where it is in the shoulder girdle as it “pops up” underneath my thumb. Sunday #mealprep to make things easier during the week. Slow cooker 5% lean mince with lots of veggies and some rice cakes with peanut butter and cashew nuts on hand. It helps when these are at hand and can be grabbed whenever the munchies start to rear their heads. In the fridge are 3 days worth of overnight oats grab in the mornings as needed. Today is my 100th run. I started just 9mths ago when I weighed close to 18st. I hated running, the very thought of it made me want to eat junk food and have a beer. I have now gone 12ths as a vegetarian and alcohol free and my weight has dropped to 12st8lb. Running today’s 10k was fabulous and I could have easily carried on, which proves that living a healthy lifestyle really is the way forward. If I can do this at 47yrs old, anyone can! I’d like to thank: @sportsdirectuk@sportsdirectfit@sportsdirectrunning@brooksrunninguk@brooksrunning@nikerunning@gatosports@ronhilluk@realbuzzcom@realbuzzliverpool and all of my family and friends that have supported and stood by me all the way! Probably one of the more popular milks that have become a staple in many people’s homes. Nut Milk, be it Almond, Cashew, Coconut, or hazelnut. Above are two that I use and one that I will stop using from now on. Two have a shelf life of next week and have only 3 ingredients the other has ingredients that I can’t even pronounce and only 2% Almonds. The rest is made up of stabilizers and gum that ensures it’s best before date is in nine months time. Personally I prefer the milk with as little ingredients as possible and more of a natural taste.
