An example of one meal on my 600 kcal per day fasting plan. Fermented beet juice, salad and cooked spaghetti squash with a homemade tomato sauce. Really hard to chew through it all. Compliance super easy as the loads of fiber makes you feel full throughout the day. Veggies ultra-nourish our body. Meditation detoxes limited believes. Caloric deficit digests sick cells and fat deposits. Every ingredient coming from Mother Nature is a healing powerhouse. By the end of the fast you don’t even want to look towards junk. My favorite pumpkin spice muffins are grain free, dairy free, and nut free (because #foodallergies) Sweetened with maple syrup instead of refined sugar, and my kids go crazy for them. Recipe: 16 oz canned pumpkin (look for organic and BPA free packaging) 1/4 cup maple syrup 1/4 cup olive oil or light vegetable oil of choice 1 cup cassava flour 1/2 tsp salt 3/4 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp ground ginger 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg Mix wet and dry ingredients separately, then mix together until smooth. Preheat oven to 400 degrees and bake for 20 minutes. Couldn’t help but think of chandler’s “chanberries” the whole time i was making these cranberry macadamia baked oats for breakfast this morning 😅 My family isn’t huge on thanksgiving, but i do think this would be a delish thanksgiving day (or cranberry day according to chandler) breakfast or even healthy dessert! 🙇🏼‍♀️ *just remember if you’re doubling or tripling or even quadrupling, keep the baking powder measurement at 1 tsp lol 😷 • Cranberry Macadamia Baked Oats - 1/2 cup rolled oats - 1/2 cup nut milk - 1/2 banana mashed - 1 tsp baking powder - 1 tsp cinnamon - dash of vanilla extract - palmful of cranberries - 1 tbsp chopped macadamia nuts - optional add ins: protein powder, chia seeds, flax seeds, etc. Preheat oven to 350F and spray a ramekin/small baking dish with nonstick spray. Combine all ingredients in a separate bowl and then pour into the ramekin. Add on more cranberries/nuts. This morning we are heading to Providence Canyon! We had a great 2 nights at FDR State Park. The whole trip isn't as we initially planned (I would have liked to hike 3-4 days straight) but we are going with the flow and it's been amazing so far. Also, this state park has far surpassed my expectations; there are so many different terrains and the fall leaves are beautiful 😍 I am looking forward to Providence Canyon! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .......................................................................... For breakfast today we had a repeat of TJ's oatmeal, nuts, and pb powder. We also ate some Just Mango Slices. And as the picture shows we made some coffee and tumeric lattes to warm up this morning. I tried out Kuju Coffee which was sooo much better than instant coffee. You just tear the packet open and slip it over your mug as a drip filter☕ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .......................................................................... Funny Story: because my feet were so cold on the first night I wanted to ensure warmth last night. I ended up wearing 3 layers of wool socks, tying my feet together in a flannel shirt, and then shoving them in a sleeping bag cover😂 hopping into my hammock was an ordeal but my feet stayed warm through the night. We have all been waking up a lot during the night but still feel well rested. I'm pretty sure it's because we are in bed for 12 hours each night because it gets dark so early. Are we spending enough time on lifestyle modifications? • November is national diabetes awareness month: I’m reposting this great post from @nutrition_facts_org, which is a great account to follow for evidence-based nutrition info! • As the rate of type II diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) Rises, There’s so many oral medications and insulin types for diabetes out there (many of which are outrageously expensive btw), and it seems like every month there’s some brand new drug out there. Many patients feel that once they get started on meds, they’re stuck for life • While it is true that the longer you have T2DM, the harder it becomes to control, it’s ALSO true that many people, with the right guidance and motivation, can successfully control their T2DM without medication. Every patient of mine who accomplished this has this in common: 🌱They changed their eating habits to healthier choices 🌱they reduced refined carbs and processed foods 🌱they lost weight • I love the epiphany that occurs when patients realize that they have more control over their disease than they realized. It’s very empowering for them, and gratifying for me💪🏽. ⠀⠀

s there a connection between MTHFR and the Adrenals? The adrenals, small but very important glands are located on top of our kidneys and are necessary for life. Adrenal cortex produces a very important hormone named cortisol, the adrenal medulla produces catecholamines. Tyrosine, an amino acid found in many high-protein food products such as animal sources but also in peanuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, soy products, lima beans, avocados, and bananas is needed to synthetize Epinephrine and Norepinephrine (these catecholamines) These hormones are needed when we are dealing with a stressful situation. Making our heart beating faster, our pupil to dilate to help us see any danger in front of us. MTHFR enzyme is supporting all the methylation processes happening in our body as it helps making SAMe an important “methyl donor” needed to help us breaking down Dopamine, Norepinephrine and Epinephrine. If we don’t have enough SAMe, because of slow methylation because of a slow MTHFR enzyme (C677 or A1298 mutation), then we might not be able to metabolize properly those neurotransmitters and they will eventually start to accumulate. Excess of dopamine and its derivatives can make us anxious, irritable and prone to OCD type symptoms. In the other hand, slow working adrenals can lead to fatigue, lack of focus, concentration, tired and make us anxious because we are not making enough of cortisol, norepinephrine and epinephrine. MTHFR activity is also important for the adrenal as it supports the synthesis of L- Dopa a precursor of Dopamine, Epinephrine and norepinephrine. MTHFR, creates 5-MTHF aka methyl folate from eating dark leafy greens and helps maintaining adequate Biopterin level which is needed to convert tyrosine to L-Dopa but also to convert tryptophan into 5-HTP and then serotonin. If you are interested in knowing more about the biopterin cycle and how it is affected by the MTHFR activity. I will write a post about it soon, but for now just know that Methyl folate is needed to make dopamine and serotonin.
