REHAB CIRCUIT 🤕 ⁣ ⁣ I am forcibly taking 2 weeks off of weight training to nurse some joint pain that was triggered by a previous surgery 😑⁣ ⁣ Instead, I have been doing daily stretches and light band work. It’s important to listen to your body! If your joints are screaming at you, lay off the weights for a couple weeks and focus on some muscle rehab like this 👆🏼👍🏼⁣ ⁣ ⁣

This was 1 rep at 315 lbs and I needed the use of a belt to get the rep complete. — The video on the right is from 10/15/19 and was at 92.5% of my max squat. This was 1 rep at 325 lbs and I did not require a belt to get the rep complete. — In the video on the left I was not feeling well that day, but was not going let that stand in my way of progressing through Squatober. In the video on the right I am feeling better and my performance during the training session felt so much better. — Each day of Squatober is a day to enjoy the process of getting better and to improve on the squat exercise. There were many times this past week where I felt my patience and strength was getting tested. But throughout all of this, my biggest reminder to myself was to embrace the challenges, embrace the hardships, get out of my comfort zone and just get into action and out of my head. Thinking less, doing more. Embracing the challenges & thinking of them as lessons & experiences, instead of thinking of every challenge as a challenge. Ya feel me?😝😜

Look no further. Today we dive into two simple fixes for your lu
Wobbly Lunges? Look no further. Today we dive into two simple fixes for your lunge to correct some commonly seen mistakes: First, a common thing I see is people bringing together their feet before they initiate the lunge. Imagine how hard it is to walk on a tight rope, why would we replicate that while lunging? Instead take a foot stance around shoulder width. This puts you in a more balanced position throughout the exercise. Secondly, if we find our knees caving in taking the wider stance will also help when we focus on maintaining knees and toes in the same vertical alignment. Another common mistake is taking the lunge way to short! To fix these a cue I use with my clients is to aim for 90 degree bend in both the front and back legs. Drinking magic teas, taking diet pills with photos of rock hard abs on the front, waking up and doing 100’s of crunches every morning and forcing myself to run even though I hated it with a passion. The magazines with the ripped models on them promising me rock hard abs in les than 3 weeks! Funny how NONE of it ever worked right?⁣ ⁣ ✅ Well allow me to shed some light for you. The secret to burning belly fat is to be in a calorie deficit, so you can burn fat overall. You can’t pick where the fat will go from, trust me I WISH we could, but it’s up to genetics. Strength training and focusing on building muscle will allow your body to burn calories more efficiently, so don’t put all your focus on cardio, get your butts into the weight room! This Saturday I'll be competing again in the 4th edition of that event. And to finalize my training for the comp...I'm not doing ANY training for 8 days. • While I've only been competing in strongman for a year, my years of competing in Crossfit and running 5Ks before that have taught me that the only way to perform at your very best the day of your competition is to allow your body plenty of time to rest beforehand. This Saturday I'll walk into that competition with no sore muscles, no achy joints, no tweaks, not burnt out, mentally fresh, and ready to have a blast and give each event everything I have. • Even if you aren't a competitor, rest is essential to making progress and avoiding injuries. You need to have scheduled complete rest days, active recovery days, lighter weight days, and lower volume days (less sets and reps). You also need to have a well thought out plan for your year to allow for undulations in your training volume and intensity. • Lucky for you, I take care of all of that for the athletes on the Straight Shot Training program. Would like to give a shout-out to one of our coaches tonight. I don't normally post things about myself and this short snippet is more about Coach Aubrey than my own accomplishments. . I have not been able do get a bar muscle since my surgery two years ago. When I see muscle ups in the WOD, I have recently just attempted one and then immediately started to scale. While I'm 100% sure my scaling options have provided strength and technique, I internally had just given up on getting a muscle up again. . Tonight, Coach Aubrey encouraged everyone in class to continue to attempt the movements that we found difficult. Four rounds into the workout and I'm still not getting my muscle ups. Normally I would have just gone straight to another scale but tonight I just pushed through and listened to my coach. . Round 5, perseverance pays off. I get the first muscle up in over TWO years. Round 6, success again. While I ultimately scaled the workout and was not able to hit that "RX" button, I walked away tonight feeling like a champion. . So tonight, I say thank you to Coach Aubrey for not letting us stay in our comfort zone! -Shawn

Had two videos sent to me from friends asking if I could do the @benbrunotraining and @kaisafit challenges. I found the wall push-ups interesting and started playing with the counter balance off the wall. -Physioball could not be done but the third video is me messing around with a Bosu- I may go back to this one day and see what else can be done with feet walking up the wall. Video also shows how in need I am of shoulder mobility work. -USA ladder was all I had in the first video, he used a bar- I’ll try that another day too and see if it makes it harder. -Most trainers believe in consistency with basic lifts to improve strength. It has benefited myself over the past 8 years that I have been doing weight-training and it still does to this day. My level of self-esteem, physical self-worth and perceived physical strength has all improved from a regular weight-training routine. I was once a young kid with low self-esteem and confidence, I had a poor perception of my physical strength and weight-training provided improvements in these areas. Here is a workout I did with my client @ms.kirlandez yesterday. She is killing it 💪🏼 getting supper strong, using great form. So we have progressed her training quite a bit this phase. The first week of a program I like to generally use as a deload and also allow the person to get a good feel for any new exercises. This was Krizia’s first time doing RDL’s with the barbell and you can see how she does these do well! When you focus on lifting correctly in one variation of a lift, a lot of that will carry over to a different variation of that same lift eg. KB deadlifts and BB RDl’s For this workout we did: Barbell RDL’s - 4x6 Assisted Split Squats - 3x12/side Lying Leg Curl - 3x12 with last set being a drop set Assisted Chin-ups - 3x4 Lateral Raises - 3x12 You don’t see us doing anything fancy here or throwing around ridiculous weights but basics executed well will give you a great workout 🏋️‍♀️.
