It takes a while to burn but offer more energy per gram (9 calories) than any other macronutrient. Carbohydrate - Short term energy. It is easy to consume and burn, assuming you are putting in the work to burning it. When you work out, you need quick energy to fuel the workouts. When you are sitting at your desk, you do not need quick energy, you aren’t really doing anything. Use your workout as the center point for your nutritional day. You need quick, easy energy one hour before, during, and after your workout. Why is it that you always want what you can’t have? 🤷‍♀️ . This little stinker knows this move is forbidden territory; he shakes his head and says “no” when he does it 🤣 but he is attracted to stretching his body from the toilet to the sink (and sometimes putting one leg up on the sink) every time he is in this bathroom 🙄 . We are totally programmed to want what we can’t have. As soon as you go on a “diet” you want crappy food. Told you can’t have chips, candy, chocolate, carbs? You immediately crave it. . Listen, you don’t HAVE to deprive yourself of your favourite treat. Eating 80-90% of your foods from whole natural food sources, and allowing yourself 10-20% of your calories be a treat is totally ok! Fit this practice in with proper portion control (macro distribution) and you can most definitely achieve your goals while still eating the foods you love ❤️ . Questions 🤔? I went on a hike for the first time, and it made me take a step back to appreciate the big and little things in my life. . . When I was 50 pounds heavier, I was constantly tired and lethargic. The food I would eat did not fuel my body. Now that I have fueled my body properly, it is time for me to do what I can to fuel my mind. . . Can I share with you guys something??? [no lie I’m not gonna wait for you to answer anyways] . 2014 This photo right here shows a very insecure, disgusted and ashamed girl. Don’t be fooled by that fake smile. I took this photo I believe 2 weeks post competition i has indulged many time and was sick with disgusted with myself. I felt HUGE. . Now before you get all mad cause clearly I was not big. I was suffering from Body Dysmorphia and a few other things. Maybe you’ve heard of it before, maybe not. Basically I could not see myself anymore. I saw an entirely different image in the mirror. I was so critical of myself. If I ate something “bad” I would punish myself by eating very “clean” the next day and doing extra cardio. I would go to parties and have so much anxiety about eating in front of people for fear that they would judge me for eating cheese. I would go to the gym and have anxiety because I wasn’t “shredded” anymore. I’d fear they were judging me. I would see someone i hadn’t seen in a while and think they thought I had let myself go. You guys I even wouldn’t eat in front of Chris for fear that he was judging my not so good choice in food. (And chris of all people would understand having been in my shoes before.) I didn’t care I was so overcome by anxiety and fear that I went in to a very dark place. . Im sharing because I know someone out there can relate. Even in on a small level. They too have felt “huge” even though everyone told them they weren’t. They too have felt judged for eating something “not so healthy”. They too have punished themselves when they ate too much. They too have talked so negatively about their body and picked out each part they didn’t like. They too received a compliment and responded with an insult about themselves. . I know I’m not the only one out there who has been imprisioned by their thoughts of their body. . I want to tell you that there a billion different bodies on this planet all unique. Instead of bashing them down why don’t we start building them up. Get free from these anxieties and start living life again. . If anyone personally needs help or advice please reach out. FIGHTING BACK DURING FLU SEASON: I got called in the office two weeks back and as I sat down, I noticed that at least three people around me were sneezing and coughing. Only one of them had the courtesy to wear a N95 mask. Immediately, I tell my manager that I have to cut our meeting short. “Why?” She asked, surprised, “You just got here.” I don’t wan’t to catch the bug,” I tell her. My face soft but firm. She knows better than to argue with me about health matters, the company is paying me for nutrition advisement after all. I came straight to my home-office that day. Since then I've been double-dosing on none-acidic vitamin C, chugging Ginger tea nonstop, and making sure I don’t miss out on enough sleep while keeping my contact with crowds to a bare minimum. Well, that’s really just another day in my life actually, but hey, I haven’t caught the Flu that's been putting my peers down for at least two weeks, and that is on the average for the healthier lot. Apparently, this new strain of Influenza has been sending people to hospitals. This one is harder than most variations of core exercises that use lots of active hip flexion (aka pulling knees up) such as knee raises, reverse crunches, bicycle crunches and comparable to Roman chair knee raises for the core (but not the Hip flexors because of the direction of gravitational pull). It also still doesn’t top a Hanging Knee Raise from the Pull-up bar, which is one of the most challenging in terms of flexion-based core exercises. Regardless, this is a great option to those looking for a CHANGE! . —————- The WHAT: . Most of the challenge is in your core, with additional challenge in your shoulders and upper back. . ————— The HOW: . 1) Put your feet in the foot cradles of a TRX trainer. 2) Take a straight-arm plank aka top push-up position. 3) Pull one knee towards your chest, keeping equal pressure in the straightened leg, while preventing your hips from dropping or twisting. Everybody has their trouble spots and for most people it’s the belly area. So even tho you can’t spot reduce by doing a crap ton of sit-ups and crunches, you CAN reduce OVERALL body fat. Which in turn, smaller waist, bigger booty appearance.⁣ ⁣ Here are some tips and what I recommend!⁣ ⁣ ✅Clean up your diet. Cut down or drop altogether processed foods and definitely refined sugars. (Packaged foods and junk sugary foods)⁣ ✅Add in more lean proteins, veggies, fruits and Whole Foods/grains and WAAAAATUHHRRRR💦 ⁣ ✅For cardio focus on doing bouts of high intensity exercises and movements. Or brisk walking for 30 minutes is great for fat loss.⁣ ✅SLEEP. You young but jeez you ain’t superwoman, get some more sleep! 8 hours at least. Less sleep = higher cortisol (stress hormone) = stubborn fat holding onto that waist. ⁣ ✅PATIENCE. Anything worth having takes time and doesn’t come easy. Remember this is a process and you need to trust it. Put in the work, don’t cheat yourself and get the results.⁣ ⁣ DON’TS:⁣ ⁣ ❌DO NOT attempt to spot reduce, you’ll be burning yourself out for no reason with zero results.⁣ ❌Do not waste money on “fat burn” supplements, creams or wraps. Recovering from an injury is tough! I felt a little defeated in physical therapy today when I realized that the road to recovery is going to be much longer than I thought. I envisioned finally getting out of my sling next week after 6 loooong weeks and finally being free! Being able to drive again. Brush my hair. All those wonderful things I’ve been unable to do. But after 5 weeks of no active movement and only protective motion, I realized that I might be out of the sling next week but I still have a lot of re-training to do for my arm, shoulder, neck and back. Trying to do my PT exercise of dangling my arm like a pendulum and surprise, it doesn’t dangle anymore! - - I’m looking back at these pre-injury training photos though with the amazing #pcrfitness and although I am now a long ways from there, I also know that for much of my life I was a long ways from there. But I got there. And I’ll get there again. Patience. Trust. Hard work. And celebrating every small victory, every time my range of motion extends even one degree. - Whether it’s recovering from an injury, diet, weight loss, health goals, exercise, etc, it’s really all about our personal commitment to ourselves. It’s hard work. Sustainable strategies. [How To Eat More Veggies] Look, veggies are probably the least fun food in this world. If you’re anything like me, you’d likely rather cut an arm off than have to eat veggies. Fun fact: I was not a fan of most veggies. Until recently that is.... I never had veggies that I was a fan of. I mean salads were fine, but even then it depending on what was in the salad. That’s when it hit me. I don’t like most *cooked* veggies. Ever since making that discovery, I’ve eaten much more veggies than I ever used to. How? By eating them in a manner in which I like them. Sometimes finding a new way to prepare foods is all it takes. I always considered veggies to be gross, mushy messes. By eating them raw, there’s a ton of crunch and the flavor is usually pretty mild. If you want to eat more veggies consider them preparing them different ways - roast them, fry them, use different spices or sauces, grill them, add bacon, or be like me and eat them raw. 💥LOSING FAT BUT NOT WEIGHT?!💥 - 🙄Probably one the top 3 questions people ask me in the DM is “Dennis, I can’t seem to lose weight.. My body changes but my weight doesn’t seem to budge…" - My response is this situation most of the time is: “So your body is changing, you’re losing fat but you’re not losing weight? Why would you care about your weight when you’re losing fat?!” - But let’s dive a little deeper into it. What are the reasons you’re losing fat but not weight? - First, you probably gained some muscle mass because you started weight training seriously. If you’re gaining muscle mass, you’re going to gain some weight. Awesome weight!! Muscles!! - Water retention is a big one, eating more sodium and or more carbs in a day than usual will cause your body to hold on to water. But heck, who cares about water weight? I certainly don’t and you shouldn’t too! - You ate later at night than usual. This means you’re getting a distorted view on the scale the next morning because there’s still food in your stomach. You shouldn’t care about that because it’s food. It’s not bodyfat. - And lastly, you might need to take a dump. Go take a shit and step on the scale again. Boom 1-2-3 lbs lost. Nobody cares about that weight. - Main take-away of this post: The scale is a good progress measurement tool, if you know how to use it. Unfortunately most people don’t know how to use it. 👋🏼 back from my week-long social media hiatus. Not planned but definitely needed. Instead of posting I did a lot of reflection, practicing being present, and painted some things.⠀ ▫️⠀ Partly because of chronic anxiety, I have spent my life being an over-thinker and planner. While this has it’s perks, one of my primary wellness goals the past few years has been to dial-down the planning, the control, and the over-thinking. So for me, it has been critical to avoid planning (unnecessarily) too far in advance and in too precise of detail. Planned social media breaks and wellness-centered behaviors may be critical for some people, for example those who have a hard time fitting it in to their schedule otherwise. But for myself, it is counterproductive.⠀ ▫️⠀ I am saying this to highlight the importance of customization and individuality when it comes to health, fitness, nutrition, and wellness. What works for me will not necessarily work for you. It drives me crazy to see people spouting advice left and right based solely on bad “information” and their own unique personal experiences. This is not to say that personal experiences have no merit. There is amazing value that comes from experiences! What can be irresponsible and misplaced however, is improper weight placed on experience in varying applied scenarios. Personal experience, observation, and conjecture are extremely important. But PROFESSIONAL experience, assessment of relevant factors, education, knowledge, and wisdom are equally important and necessary. Four months ago I joined Beautycounter as a consultant. Let me tell you, no one is more surprised about this than me. I've always turned my nose at direct sales companies and this is something I never in a million years thought I'd take on. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If I were on the other side of this post, you would have lost me already; but if you're still with me, thanks for hearing me out. Yes, I am technically "selling" their products; but honestly, I am not trying to make a million bucks doing this. I am, however, trying to share cleaner, safer products with everyone, because I want you to care just as much about what you put ON your body as what you put IN your body. I used to scroll through my feed or see people at the gym and think, “I wish I had _______ like them” (flat stomach, toned arms, muscular legs, etc...) can anyone else relate!? 🙋‍♀️ . . I stopped wishing and worked to make it happen. I stopped making excuses for myself as to why I couldn’t look like everyone else working hard. . . You are fully capable of obtaining your goals as well. Just make the choice to start working hard on you and never look back!

It's been a while, but here is a solid #crapinmycabinet meal! Husband also approved! . Ground turkey browned with a medium onion (chopped), added a green pepper, a red pepper, some jalapenos (all chopped), a garlic clove pressed, black pepper....mixed all together and then added some rice (cooked separately...well...microwaved 😉). . Super easy. Super good. Good for ya, too!
