mental day off because I just couldn’t make the gym work today.... not into excuses but definitely couldn’t push myself as hard as I wanted to today. Normally I would get really down on myself about this & just feel so gross but I’m trying to change up my mentality & know when it’s time to listen to my body. I plan to switch up my workouts a bit next week cuz I am afraid I’ve been doing too much of the same things. Any suggestions would be really helpful, especially with lifting exercises you like & you implement! I would love to add more variety to my workouts. 🏋🏼‍♀️ thx for all the positivity & ❤️. We go to bed every night the same time and for the most part the same day each week. .... Routines are super important and allow you to see what kind of time you have during your day, time to scroll mindlessly, to play games, or maybe do some for yourself. .... You could take time and do some yoga, do a 30 minute cardio workout, and invest in yourself. ..... It eventually becomes apart of your daily activity and before you know it, you are living your best life, feeling amazing and then at the end of the day you can rest guilt free. ..... #nophoneforayear#vitaminwater#contest Humor aside, I’ll admit I can’t go long without my phone. This video was a pretty accurate example of how most of my mornings go. Constant connection. A lot of times I’ll reach for it and check it without even having a reason. Even if there’s no notification I’ll press the home button to see if anything new has come up. I know it’s distracting me from other things, but I can’t help it. Zig Ziglar said “Lack of direction, not lack of time, is the problem. We all have twenty-four hour days.” I know that my smartphone causes a lack of direction because it creates a lot of distraction, but despite being aware it’s so hard to break free. However, I really think I could ace this challenge because I have so many good reasons to succeed. Not saying it would be easy, but I would benefit a lot from learning to live more “unplugged”. It would be an obvious reset of priorities. If I was chosen I would spend my phone-less year diving headfirst into my writing and my art. It’s far too easy to just pick up my phone and scroll through videos on youtube or comics on instagram instead of doing what I used to love. I would find that passion again and do my best to finish one of my manuscripts. Without having my phone to distract me I would also focus more on the business plan I’ve been slowly compiling & perfecting for over a year. An encouragement care package service for those struggling with anxiety, depression, or just needing a mental boost. If I was chosen for this contest, and won… I would give part of the money to the non-profit organization my parents started to help at-risk teen girls, and the rest of it would go towards making my business and entrepreneurial dreams come true. My goal is to help and encourage the most people possible, and $100,000 would be instrumental in making those goals realities for not only me but the community I seek to uplift.

Finding the right combination of meds isn't easy, but I've found the mix for me. These are my daily helpers #myfavoritemeds: Bupropion (Wellbutrin) twice a day and Sertraline (Zoloft) once a day. . Thanks @jengotch and @hardstark for starting this conversation about #mentalhealth. . In college I became severely depressed. My anxiety made me physically ill; food didn't appeal to me. I knew I had to help myself so I started seeing the school therapist and the psychiatrist prescribed Sertraline. After a few months, the medication was helping. I graduated and continued taking my meds, but stopped going to therapy. . My meds were less effective after a year. My Nana passed away unexpectedly and my depression was hitting me hard. The doc had me try Bupropion and I started to feel more like myself again soon after. . I'm happy I found the right combo for me. Sunday slow down: meditation! I did a series of stories earlier this week on a sound bath experience we did, and have gotten to chat with SO many of you all about our meditation experiences, and your general interest in the subject. It is really something that has changed our lives profoundly, so I thought I would jump into your Sunday feed and encourage you all to take a few minutes tonight to be “quiet with yourself.” Your mind truly does control everything. And if you’re not a believer, try taking a few minutes each day this week to breathe, or meditate, and see the change it creates. One of the biggest questions asked this week is how to start meditating. There are so many great apps (@headspace or @calm ) and podcasts (Meditation Oasis, The Daily Meditation Podcast) out there on the subject, but if you’re really looking to discover the #science behind it all, and what is actually happening in your brain when you slow down, I highly recommend Dr. Joe Dispenza’s book, “Becoming Supernatural.” Here is a great three minute meditation you can take with you into this week…its three minutes…you have time for three minutes, I promise! Let me know with some love below if you’re filling your cup with some you time! Gratitude Meditation: Take a deep breath in to the count of three, hold for three seconds, then exhale for the same count of three. Repeat two more times. On your fourth breath, inhale something you are grateful for. This could be as simple as the sun shining, or your health, or something more specific. As you hold the breath, then exhale, think about what this things you’re grateful looks like, what it sounds like, what it feels like. Take as many breathes as you need to fully explore this item of gratitude. Take a deep breath in to the count of three, hold for three seconds, then exhale for the same count of three. On your next breath, repeat the same exercise for a second thing you’re grateful, then a third, taking a breath between each item of gratitude. To close, take another deep breath in to the count of three, hold for three seconds, then exhale for three. 📸: @thepartyshots
