Black Beans on Toast with Avocado and Tomato Avocado toast is one of my favorite snacks. I decided to try something with a little bit more substance that could stand alone as a meal. 4 oz cherry tomatoes, quartered 2 tsp olive oil salt and pepper 1/4 c boiling water 1- 15 Oz can of black beans, rinsed 1/2 tsp of grated lime zest plus 1 Tbsp of juice 4 slices of bread 1 ripe avocado, halved & pitted and thinly sliced 1/4 c sweet and spicy pickled red onions, optional Sliced jalapeno, optional 1/4 c of fresh cilantro leaves 1. Combine tomatoes 1 tsp oil and pinch of salt and pepper in a bowl. Mash beans, boiling water, lime zest and juice, half tsp of salt, pinch of pepper and remaining tsp of oil with a potato masher to a coarse puree in a second bowl leaving some whole beans intact. 2. Adjust oven rack 4 inches from Broiler and place bread on a baking sheet and broil until golden, 1 to 2 minutes per side. 3. spread mashed Bean mixture evenly on toast, then top with avocado and season with salt to taste. It’s #ScienceSunday! Time for some #BrainGains! 💪🏻🧠 💪🏻 Today’s topic is the ratio of macronutrients and how it affects your risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality. Thanks to the government and other health agencies endorsing a low fat diet before it was proven to be healthy, data has been skewed. The unbiased data seems to be indicating that it might be a lower carbohydrate diet that is better for overall longevity and disease prevention 👩🏼‍🔬THE STUDY: This study aimed to find the association of fats and carbohydrate intake with cardiovascular disease (CDV) and mortality. It was a large, epidemiological cohort study of individuals aged 35–70 years in 18 countries different countries. They used food frequency questionnaires to ascertain dietary intake of fat and carbs 🔅They primarily looked at total mortality and major cardiovascular events (fatal CDV, non-fatal myocardial infarction, stroke, and heart failure), but also all myocardial infarctions, stroke, CDV mortality, and non-CDV mortality, as a measure of risk of individual diets. 🔬THE RESULTS: 🔅Higher carb intake was associated with an increased risk of total mortality but not with the risk of CDV or CDV mortality 🔅Intake of total fat and each type of fat was associated with lower risk of total mortality 🔅Higher saturated fat intake was associated with lower risk of stroke 🔅Total fat and saturated and unsaturated fats were not significantly associated with risk of myocardial infarction or CDV mortality 👉🏻WHAT THIS MEANS: For a long time, we have been told that fat, especially saturated fat, is bad. But this study indicates that the opposite is true—that increased carbohydrate intake is associated with a higher mortality rate. The current dietary recommendations for Americans might not be the healthiest way to eat ❗️LIMITATIONS: Self-reported dietary intakes can never be 100% relied upon

Simply cooked up the veg first and added the ham. Then mixed the eggs with the Philadelphia and spices and whisked. We poured the egg into a lined springform cake tin, then added the veg. Simply but very effective way to tell if you're actually "hungry": Would you eat salad? [or anything else you don't overly like but that fills you up - apples, broccoli, etc] . If NO: you're probably wanting to eat for other reasons besides hunger. And you probably crave a specific food that's extremely palatable (🍦🍩🍕🍟). . If YES: you're probably hungry! And would choose salad over that slice of cake 🍏>🍰. Because it would fill you up & satisfy your hungry more. . Nonetheless, we all eat for a variety of reasons. Most of us eat food for reasons besides hunger. Like boredom, out of habit (eating breakfast at 8am, lunch at 12pm, dinner at 6pm, etc), for taste (eating fries, ice cream, chocolate even when you're not physically hungry), social conventions (at parties, when someone offers you a cup of tea), & for fun. And that's alright! I know few (if any) people who eat solely to satisfy hunger. . There's different types of hunger: . There's Psychological hunger (CRAVINGS); . Physical hunger (stomach growling, lightheaded, weak); . Emotional hunger (stress, had a bad day, a pint of ice cream fixes everything!). . I believe hunger is fleeting, however. This means it comes & goes. Like when you're suddenly ravenous, then an hour later, you're no longer "hungry" at all. Have you ever experienced that?? Same goes for any psychological or emotional hunger. The urge usually dissipates after waiting it out for a while. . I also think that when we THINK we are hungry, we actually aren't really. If I were to be real with myself, I can probably go a day (or two) without eating, and not be ACTUALLY hungry (due to fat stores which I would burn instead - think back to the hunter-gatherer days when people would go days without eating!). Though my mind & body would trick myself into thinking I am hungry, because I am so used to eating regularly, & eating at specific times everyday (I'd feel hungry at 8am, 12pm, 6pm kind of thing). . Está bueno escuchar el cuerpo y saber qué te pide. Y hoy me dijo: DAME FITZZA, asiq yo super obediente me puse a cocinar 😂 Además es una PA-VA-DA y lo podes hacer con mijo, arroz de sushi, o yamani que te haya sobrado. BASE: -2 tazas arroz yamani cocido (orgánico de @esquinadelasfloresoficial ), enfriado y desp lo calientan un poco más en el micro. Se tiene que pasar un poco para que sea más fácil hacer una especie de “puré” -condimentar a gusto: yo puse sal marina, ajo en polvo, pimienta negra. -sobre un molde circular de silicona o una fuente para horno con papel manteca apenas aceitada agregar el arroz e ir mojando una cuchara y con la “panza” ir extendiendo la masa. Mojar cada vez para evitar que se pegue todo. Hasta lograr una masa fina. -por arriba salsa de tomate, yo usé una natural de @jardin_organico -quesos a gusto (rallé varios que tenían, algunos de cajú que son un exito de @felices_las_vacas y otro poco con port salut light. -un toque de orégano y al horno hasta dorar. .
