We should all make sure that our children eat nutritious foods.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We should all make sure that our children eat nutritious foods. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For children with ADHD there are some foods that are better than others and some should try to avoid. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A few tips I came across from @ADDitudemag put it simply: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. Increase proteins - protein helps to build neurotransmitters, the messengers that bring signals from one brain cell to another. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. Limit foods high in artificial colors, sweeteners or preservatives - studies have shown a link between artificial dyes and flavors and ADHD symptoms, particularly hyperactivity. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3. Add omega-3 fatty acids - link to low levels of omega - 3’s in the ADHD brain. These are essential for brain functioning and not naturally produced in the body. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in fish oil, flaxseed oil, eggs, soybeans and most abundant in fish. Salmon is a very kid friendly food that is rich in omega-3’a. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 4. Avoid foods that cause sensitivities - trigger foods, such as dairy, gluten or eggs, can cause sensitivities (not allergies) in children. Food sensitivities are present when physical or behavioral symptoms are triggered by them. Children with ADHD may have trigger foods that cause them increased hyperactivity, impulsivity or inattention ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 5. Limit sugar - this one is applicable to all children; less is more when it comes to sugar. Make sure to avoid getting caught giving your children foods high in sugar by looking for ingredients that may include corn syrup, anything with high fructose, etc. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What foods do you encourage children with ADHD to eat? What foods do you suggest to avoid? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #adhd#add#adhdparents#adhdtips#adhdfood#adhdawareness#adhdparenting#adhdnutrition#adhdtips#learningdifferences#adhdfamily#neurodiversity#adhdnutrition#nutritionforkids#parentingtips#omega3s#foodsensitivities#kidsmentalhealth#pediatricmentalhealth#childrenshealth#childrenswellness#childrensnutrition#adhdparenting#adhdparents#adhdparenting#adhdparentingtips#adhdcoach#instaadhd#miamipsychologist#miamikids

🙏🏻At My Peaceful Universe my passion is to teach children, adolescents and adults how to live more mindfully. This means simply learning to experience life as it unfolds... To discover how to stay present and calm and not slip constantly into thinking and worrying mode.. This week in class my students learnt that their BREATH can be a powerful anchor and point of focus to direct their mind to, when they are feeling stressed, upset, nervous, anxious or overwhelmed. They explored breathing in, and EXTENDING their exhale to really calm their mind and body and slow down their inner speed. We also discussed that breathing in this way can be very helpful when they are finding it a little challenging to quiet the chatter in their mind when they are falling asleep. I’m truly proud of my students and the commitment they show each week to learning how to manage their emotional health and wellbeing. These kids will move into their teenage years with life skills that will help them become more resilient, make better decisions, feel confident, calmer, grateful, happier as well as feel more compassionate and connected to the amazing world around them. Much peace to everyone, Isabelle 🙏🏻☮️ #mypeacefuluniverse#mindfulnessforkids#meditationforkids#kidsemotionalhealth#kidsmentalhealth#kidswellbeing#resilientkids#calmerkids#confidentkids#happykids#kidsareourfuture

Does anyone else find it difficult to get the children excited about spellings? Let’s be honest, it’s not the most fun activity writing and re-writing the same words... But every activity can be made more fun and creative by using other materials to engage their interest. Writing in sand is easy and can be used for learning letter formations too. Laying little pebbles, marbles or even chickpeas is another way of doing the same job. Do you have any tips for making boring tasks like learning spellings fun and creative? #blacksquirrelgifts#creativekids#creativelife#craftingwithkids#makingwithkids#activitiesforchildren#stemactivitiesforkids#openendedlearning#creativeplayideas#activefamily#healthyfamilyliving#kidsmentalhealth#natureismagic#outdoorkids#homeworkhacks

This is me yesterday doing another assembly as part of #mentalhealthawarenessweek2019. The theme this time was our wandering minds. 💛 We discussed how our minds can sometimes focus on worries, and, as our minds are very good at telling stories, how these worries might not actually always be true... We also looked at how practicing gratitude can make a big difference to our overall well-being. 💛 The kids listened beautifully and were so engaged in the practices we did together. I've had lots of feedback from teachers reporting sightings of children using the breathing techniques I taught them on Monday in school tests this week and around school in general. Which is amazing, only after a 10 minute assembly talk! It clearly resonates with them and feels usable. 💛 Teaching the children simple and easy tools to deal with life as it unfolds in its wonderful but sometimes challenging ways, is, I believe, critical to their mental health, both as children and also as future adults. 💛 What one doable, simple thing can you do this weekend to take care of your and your family's mental health? 💛🧡❤️ #mindfulness#mentalhealthawarenessweek2019#mentalhealthawareness#mentalhealthmatters#childrensmentalhealth#kidsmentalhealth#kidscanmeditate#medidate#glitterjar#torchlightofattention#dotb#mindfulnessinschools#mindfulnessinschoolsproject#loveteachingkids#itsapractice

One of the most supportive thing
National Mental Health Awareness Week - Day 6. One of the most supportive things you can do as a family, or a friend, to support someone you love is to make yourself available to talk to. Just knowing you're there and want to help is enough sometimes, even if they don't feel able to take advantage of your offer just yet. When they're ready, listen without judgement, support without demands, love without bounds. If you have a child in your life you struggle to know how to talk to about anxiety, I have a free guide on my website - www.platypuskids.co.uk - that will teach you how to talk to your child about anxiety in a loving way. Just scroll to the bottom of the page and add your email address to get your copy. #plymouth#wellbeing#kidswellbeing#stress#anxiety#mindfulnessforkids#mentalhealthawareness#mindfulness#kidsmentalhealth#familytime#familylife#yoga#yogaforkids#platypuskids

There are a few tickets left for this workshop next weekend. The importance of kids learning how to recognise and regulate their emotions is something that comes up in all of my classes ... mostly from mums who feel like they don’t have the tools to help their child calm down amidst a meltdown, comfort ‘worriers’ or help with all the playground dramas that come home from school. This workshop will teach your child how to be emotionally resilient and adaptive using essential oils, the breath and meditation. I cry out of anger and feeling impotence that I am adult and can't go kick turds asses. My daughter worked tirelessly on her science project and it was overshadowed by bullies and their stupidity. Today I attended a brief meeting with the principal to be informed that my daughter had been pinned to the wall by a boy trying to take away the luggage cart that she needs to haul her double bass. The student was removed from class for today and Monday. Even though my daughter punched and kicked the boy she was defending herself. I pick her up to find out that she was ridiculed and called cuss words in front of the class. #stopbullying#dontbeashittyperson#bullying#dontbeabully#schoollife#schoolbullying#kidsmentalhealth#autismmom#bullyingawareness#todaywasnotagoodday#furious#endbullying#angrydoesntcoverit#aspergerssyndrome#teachkindness#mentalhealthadvocate#kidscanbecruel#raisingawareness#peoplecanbesocruel

Fridays and weekends are all things family around here 😊. Today, I want to recommend one of my go to tools to teach my child mindfulness and emotional intelligence. This book is intended for babies and toddlers. It is effective because it validates when children are having a difficult time emotionally and gives them a few ideas to help. This has helped calm our baby many, many times. It's effective bc it uses a narrative rather than the sole focus being on the child having an "tantrum." And, so this feels safer for children. It also normalizes expressing your feelings rather than shutting children up or making them shove down their feelings, all things that create bigger problems. More on that later... For now, I want us to practice holding space for children's emotions, letting them feel their feelings, letting them have a "tantrum" or a "meltdown." This is hard to do, but healthy for their emotional development. Let's soothe & comfort them. 💖 I have tantrum in quotes bc there are so many reasons children could be struggling & very young children do not yet have the capacity to regulate their emotions. Heck, some adults don't! And, we're also still learning 😊. We need to cut children some slack & provide them a safe space, tools, & teach them these skills over & over & over again just like any skill that needs to be mastered. I'll share more about this in an upcoming live. I also want to say that still, with all those tools & this book, your children will have a tough time. Just like us! Let's learn to give ourselves & our children grace & unconditional love. I really do think all this work will contribute to making the world a better place for all. Don't you think? How can you hold space for your children's emotions today? How can you start practicing normalizing their emotions? Even the difficult ones? #emotionalintelligenceforkids#mindfulnessforchildren#peacefulparenting#gentleparenting#consciousparenting#positiveparenting#momsofcolor#latinamom#xicanamom#chicanamom#kidsbookstagram#kidlit#kidsbooks#wellnessforkids#kidsmentalhealth#raisingthefuture#raisingfreepeople#raisingconsciouskids#raisingtoddlers#raisingreaders

QOTD: Do you meditate? I have been meditating for about two years now. I have several grounding meditations I can walk myself through, and I have tried several apps that have guided meditations. My favorite app so far is the one I currently use, Simple Habit. It's free and has dozens of wonderful themed meditations to listen to, with different length options as well as the option to add background music, and save your favorites to your own playlist. With the paid membership, you have access to even more meditations, as well as the ability to download your favorites and listen to them offline. If you'd like to give the Premium a try, I have a code that gives both the receiver and giver 2 free weeks! This book was sent to us for free in exchange for an honest review: Mindful Moments at Bedtime by Paloma Rossa, illustrated by Stephanie Fizer Coleman is one of the most beautiful books I have ever seen! It has thick pages like a board book but is a larger size than most board books. The pages are not glossy but a soft matte texture that is lovely to touch. Each page guides you through a peaceful meditation, tied in with gorgeous illustrations. Some of the pages have discussion questions, others have instructions to trace a design or tap different objects as you name things. I can't recommend this book enough! #theHSPbookshelf#mindfulmomentsatbedtime#palomarossa#stephaniefizercoleman@stephfizercoleman#cottagedoorpress@cottagedoorpress#mindfulnessforkids#mindfulkids#mindfulparenting#mindfulnessbooks#picturebook#bookreview#bookstagram@simplehabitapp#mentalhealth#mentalhealthawareness@mothersofmentalillness#mentalhealthbooks#kidsmentalhealth#mentalhealthmatters#childrensmentalhealth#emotionalawareness

I have been looking after my mental health and it felt like the right thing to do. I have to practise what I preach and slow down when I need to. Looking after your mental health is so unbelievably important ❤️

This is the same 7 year old that clocked 20,143 steps on my Garmin watch last Saturday... He doesn't naturally gravitate to meditation, but with practice, has gotten to where he can drop in quickly and even teach other kids how to do it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ How did we get there? Again, practice... but how does that PRACTICE part happen? (since practice means doing it often, not just once or twice a year right?)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I am so happy you asked! I went and made a whole webinar about it! "3 Behind-The-Scenes Secrets for Making Family Yoga and Meditation Stick!" ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In this free webinar I'm going to share our proven system for getting yoga and meditation to happen at home, WITH our kids, active kids that are usually more of a blur than a still photo kind of kids. With our sensitive kids, kids who are quick to cry, quick to melt down, quick to start arguing over who gets the purple mat today kind of kids. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If that's also your kids, then go register for my webinar. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ www.luminainfinite.com/webinar ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Even if you can't attend live, if you register, you'll get access to the replay. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Don't delay, register today! (Namaste! haha, couldn't resist the rhyme, but actually the kind of yoga we do is Kundalini Yoga, so we say, "Sat Nam" at the end.) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ BTW, the meditation pictured here is Kirtan Kriya and I'm going to tell you ALLLLLLL about Kirtan Kriya and it's amazing, research proven, effects on the brain in my webinar. Who else loves Kirtan Kriya out there?

💕 For our kids to know that there is a place for ALL emotions. ALL emotions are okay 💕 . I just think this is sooooo important. The idea that our children are innately okay, they don't need fixing. I want them to know that the difficult emotions are as valid as the happy, kind ones. The magic comes when we help them to notice what's going on and help them build a toolkit of ideas to help them through it, rather than feel like they "shouldn't" feel like that. . As parents/adults we want to help our kids to feel better. Less anxious, cross, angry, sad - "you're fine", "turn that frown upside down", "just get on with it"... But if we can encourage them to see those emotions as just that - emotions - not as who they are. They are not their thoughts, they think things. They are not their sensations, they sense them. They are not their emotions, they feel them. . My girls (4 and 7) have recently chosen journals that we are going to use for them to write down different tools and ideas they can use at different moments. When they feel overwhelmed, cross, tired... Anyone else fancy joining us and giving it a go? Idea share? I will share some on my stories today ❤️🙏 . . . #mindfulchildren#emotionalresilience#raisingstrongkids#mindfulmagicmovement

So yesterday I had the opportunity to attend the RBS Live Well Being You seminar with the fabulous Mandy Baker from @thezoneclubwithmandybaker. It was great to see all the support these large organisations are giving their employees and customers. Working towards ending the stigma of poor Mental Health will take time, and the message needs to be discussed 52 weeks of the year not just during #mentalhealthawarenessweek! . . . . . . #itsgoodtotalk#jbtherapyservices#mentalhealthawareness#endthestigma#counsellor#kidsmentalhealth#hypnotherapist#adolescentmentalhealth#mensmentalhealth#itsallaboutyou#anxiety#stress#gratitude#positivemindset#mentalhealthadvocate#positivethinking#emotionalwellbeing#lookingafteryourmentalhealth

8 years from anxiety symptom onset to help seeking is the average in Australia. In rural Australia its 18 years. A World Health Organisation study across 21 countries found just over 27% of people get professional help for their anxiety. Please, let’s all raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of anxiety and get anxious kids the understanding, support and treatment they need. It’s conferences like @propsych_ that will impact these statistics in a huge way #anxiety#anxietyrelief#propsychau#mentalhealth#kidsmentalhealth#anxiouskidsbook#happieronpurpose@penguinbooksaus

National Mental Health Awareness Week - Day 5.

One of the most common technique
National Mental Health Awareness Week - Day 5. One of the most common techniques you will come across when talking about calming the mind is breathing. There are dozens of different ways to breath, and to focus on your breathing...some of them so complicated you can get stressed just trying to remember them! So for children we simplify things. Younger children find it easy to liken their breath to animals - bunny breaths, peacock breaths (floating the arms up as they breath in, fluttering them down on the way out), and butterfly breathing (sitting cross-legged and bringing feet to nose) are great. Older children can begin to focus on belly breathing by using a teddy on their tummy and watching it move up when they breath in, and down when they breath out. Whatever the technique, breathing techniques work because they focus the mind, and connect the mind and body together. They help to slow the breathing down, slow the thoughts from racing, and help us see our way through a problem. Regular breathwork practice has long-term benefits for our mental health, and means it's easier to call on the techniques when they are needed. #plymouth#wellbeing#kidswellbeing#stress#anxiety#mindfulnessforkids#mentalhealthawareness#mindfulness#kidsmentalhealth#familytime#familylife#yoga#yogaforkids

Monty coming in to check out the beautiful cover of 'Frankie" the wonderful new book for children written by the brilliant Laura Bloom. I'm reading it with my 11 year old son at the moment and we are both loving it! Highly recommended. Debbie Isaac | baby + me consultant interview | I: Debbie, we know Occupational Therapists as OTs. As a paediatric occupational therapist, does that make you a POT? (it would help keep the characters down on this post if you said “yes”!) DI: I’m not aware of that being done before, nor does it sound particularly flattering…so perhaps not! I: Okay! Tell me about your work as a paediatric occupational therapist. What does it mean you do? DI: I help kids with their “occupations” or work. And what “work” do kids do? They play with blocks, they create art, they play with others (friends, siblings), they use tools (spoons, balls), they go to kinder/school, they exercise self-care. There are many reasons why a child may have difficulty with these things – physical or mental disability, autism, anxiety, clumsiness, hypersensitivity. I help the child develop the skills they need. I: You started in mental health but moved to paediatrics. What inspired the change? DI: Early on I found myself drawn to helping people with learning difficulties and then an opportunity arose to work with children. After I had kids, I became fascinated with the development of children. I studied autism as part of a Masters. I: You are really passionate about drawing with children. Why? DI: I have always loved drawing. It was encouraged when I was growing up and I have encouraged it in my kids too. The development of drawing and the variation in children’s drawings is fascinating. As a practitioner and mum, I see drawing as a way for children to express themselves. Days after September 11, my daughter (then six) drew a picture of the twin towers and an aeroplane. At home, we had shielded our kids from the news, but my daughter’s drawing showed us that it was on her mind. I: What makes baby + me special? DI: With space to write and draw, the book gives the child the opportunity to tell their story and their family’s story of the time waiting for the baby. It’s also incredibly appealing to children (and parents and grandparents) with beautiful bright illustrations.

We are so focused on being strong for them, that we often hide our emotions. I think it’s a good idea to share various parts of yourself, within reason, so they can relate and also see us as not only their parents but real people. To my son I’m super woman, but I’m not super all the time and I want him to know that’s ok. But the more important message is I always get back up and try my best. They learn best when we not only tell them but show them as well. . . . . . #stillbecoming#becoming#mom#momlife#moms#momsofinstagram#sons#family#blackwomen#blackwomenwhoblog#lifestyle#lifestyleblogger#kids_of_our_world#follow#repost#theshaderoom#balleralert#melaninbabies#follow#repost#blackwomen#kids#motherhood#igkids#blackculture#blackexcellence#wisdom#mentalhealthawareness#mentalhealth#kidsmentalhealth

Since May is Mental Health Awareness Moth, this is a good time for introductions
Since May is Mental Health Awareness Moth, this is a good time for introductions, - - My name is Maria Barrios, I am a mom of 2 kids (9 year old boy and 7 year old girl). I decided to use this channel @kidscopingwithanxiety because I believe that the more that we talk and normalize the conversation about mental health the more we help to end the stigma that surrounds it. - - When I was 25 years old I was officially diagnosed with generalized anxiety, I said officially because even though I worried a lot when I was younger, I didn’t want to share my feelings with my parents or anybody. 15 years ago no one was talking about mental health, I thought that I was the only one that had all those feelings and worries, so I decided to remained in silence, I felt alone. - - When I decided to look for the help, going to a Therapist, was definitely the best decision ever!!! - - During that time I remembered asking the Therapist when will the fears and anxious thoughts will go away? will they disappear at all? her answer was so clear and honest, she said “ they will come back anytime, you just have to learn how to live with it because it’s part of you and this is what makes you who you are, so after that I realize that anxiety is as treatable as any physical health disorder or illness. - - Our journey as a family took us to discover that anxiety is part genetic so I noticed that one of my kids tends to worry more than normal like me and even though nowadays it’s still not easy to talk about mental health, I decided that I won’t wait until my child is 25 years old to look for the help, the tools, the resources and all the education to prepare our family to cope with anxiety so we can thrive instead of survive. - - I am on a mission. I am raising awareness about anxiety in young kids and their family because I truly believe in early intervention, anxiety is treatable, when you find the right help on time the outcome is better and makes a huge impact in your kid’s life, our kids need to understand that that there is HOPE and they are not alone.#mentalhealthawareness#mom#kidsmentalhealthmatters#teen#mentalhealth#anxiety#kids#highfunctioninganxiety

Growing up, we were taught how to take care of our physical health, but there was never any mention of mental health. I had chronic stomach aches and developed stress ulcers as a kid from anxiety. It's time to break the stigma. It's now estimated that 1 in 5 kids will have a mental wellness challenge growing up. This is unacceptable and it's time to make a change. Luckily, we now have the knowledge and science for holistic solutions. In 2017, I aligned with the First of it's kind holistic Mental Wellness Company and have been blessed to help so many feel their best. Everybody falls somewhere on the mental wellness continuum and I can bet most everyone wants to feel better tomorrow than you do today. If you have kids, check out our kids line and give them the tools they need to thrive. Our kids probiotic was just nominated for Probiotic of the Year. 👏👏💚 DM me for more info. #mentalhealthawarenessmonth

My heart is so full from all the love and support that has been extended to me and my Sugar Plum since sharing my worries about her anxiety, thank you so much to everyone who reached out to me! 🥰 . Today, we checked in again with the psychiatrist who is monitoring her, and we feel good about our plan of action. Afterwards, we used the washroom at the clinic, which is specifically for children’s mental health, and which offers counselling to kids up to age 18. On the walls of every stall, were words of encouragement and comfort from other kids who understand. Kids whose hearts carry the burden of mental illness, but who follow the light of hope. They give me courage. ❤️ . With the badass support system we have in all of you, I feel confident we will get through this! 🙏 . . . #hope#thankyou#supportsystem#mentalhealth#kidsmentalhealth#gad#generalizedanxietydisorder#anxiety#adhd#mygirl#trichotillomania#loveher#fighter#brighterdays#followthelight#havefaith#courage#determination#wegotthis#gratitude#encouragement#love#sugarplum
