How do I try new asanas on my own? Well, I Google. So if you are a beginner you can try looking for easy yoga poses or yoga poses for beginners. If you are in an advanced stage then you can search for more challenging poses. Once you have indentified the poses you want to do, you can Google/YouTube the right way of doing them. And then just practice and practice till you get there. Here is a not-so-perfect camel split. We hold so much of ourselves in our bodies. Our muscles and joints are home to emotions, traumas and pains. I firmly believe that. I believe it because I’ve felt it. Felt the rush of sadness during a hip stretch, the vulnerability of heart openers, and the insecurities come welling up when I find that shoulder release. It’s weird, but in my own personal story it all makes sense. ⠀ ⠀ I am trying to be more careful about how I tell students to change their alignment. There are deep reasons for those little adjustments that make postures easier for us. My practice extends beyond alignment in my own asana- I am trying to explore the resistance I have to challenging myself in very specific ways. I want to be mindful that the storms my students are weathering show up on the mat, and how I talk to them about that is important. YOGA DAY 50: I love this practice, even though it often feels more difficult to hold a pose for 3-5 minutes than it does to move quickly from pose to pose following the pace of inhales and exhales. I was thinking that I had managed more depth in straddle pose than I ever had before when my ridiculous cat decided to jump on my back. I don't know if she was confirming I was horizontal enough to use as a bed or if she was trying to push me down further. 🐈

Funny how when I started yoga things that seemed impossible are now happening. 💕 I never thought I would be able to do crow pose let alone jump back from crow and now it’s happening! Check my stories I shared a clip. Next up is nailing this #handstand like solid floating up and sticking it for longer periods of time🤸‍♂️ But I have been practicing it almost daily and see some progress and longer holds 🤗 I’m also hoping these #bbg12weekchallenge workouts give me the added strength I need to improve my yoga practice. What is your favorite Standing Pose (Tadasana) variation? Sound off in the comments! (I can't believe I forgot Eagle, one of my fave poses! 🤦‍♀️). The research keeps rolling in: Just a few minutes of yoga per day can help with anxiety, depression, stress, confidence, and even bone density! We're focusing on Mountain or Standing Pose this month. When it's time for a stretch break, try mixing it up with one of these variations on Standing Pose during your day. Just one pose for 3 breaths can improve your day and your health! Remember to expand your lungs, breathe steadily, and relax during each pose! 1) Standing Pose - Navel pulled to spine, shoulder blades back and down ribs 2) Standing Pose Reaching - Arms above head, shoulders away from ears, feet touching. Navel toward spine, reach for ceiling. 3) Standing Pose with eyes closed on one foot. Feel all 4 corners of foot on floor. Notice how something as small as closing one's eyes changes something we usually take for granted. 4) Chair pose - Feet together, sit back with sit bones, bring pubic bone toward belly button lightly. Arms up, torso up, shoulder blades down. 5) Tree Pose - Foot as low or high on leg as is comfortable, just not on knee. Arms above or out to sides. Eyes open or close. 6) Figure 4 Chair Pose - Begin in Chair Pose. YOGA DAY 47: I woke up this morning around 4:30. I am only mentioning that because I may not be making great decisions at the moment. 🤣 With my daughters taking turns being sick lately, my plans to incorporate more workouts into my day have been sidelined. I have remained committed to my daily yoga practice, even when my savasana gets interrupted by calls from the school nurse. All of that rambling is to say why I plan to take my practice in a different direction. I am a person who HATED the entire concept of power yoga, but I have realized I am capable of so much more than I believed. I bought this Ultimate Yogi set back in December of 2012! In 6+ years of owning it, I have only tried a couple of the practices it includes. I was completely intimidated by the display poses shown with each DVD as well as the names of the practices. Today I woke up before the sun and decided that I want to follow the 108 day program that is part of this set. There will absolutely be poses beyond my abilities, but maybe in 108 days, there won't be.
