⭐Meet Galileo, One of the most interesting spacecraft to have been launched to explore our solar system! ✴ Galileo was an American unmanned spacecraft that studied the planet Jupiter and its moons, as well as several other Solar System bodies. Named after the Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei, it consisted of an orbiter and an entry probe. It was delivered into Earth orbit on October 18, 1989 by Space Shuttle Atlantis. Galileo arrived at Jupiter on December 7, 1995, after gravitational assist flybys of Venus and Earth, and became the first spacecraft to orbit Jupiter. It launched the first probe into Jupiter, directly measuring its atmosphere. Despite suffering major antenna problems, Galileoachieved the first asteroid flyby, of 951 Gaspra, and discovered the first asteroid moon, Dactyl, around 243 Ida. In 1994, Galileoobserved Comet Shoemaker–Levy 9's collision with Jupiter. ✴ 1st image: Artist rendition of Galileo 2nd and 3rd: Galileo under construction 4th: Galileo releasing its probe into Jupiter's atmosphere. ✴ Follow @stem_universe for more interesting information 🔥🔥🔥

The Crux . Also known as Southern Cross by the southern hemisphere residents, the Crux is one of the most recognizable constellations in the sky, used for centuries in navigations. . Closer to the constellation is a little part of the Milky Way, a sight that we don't usually contemplate in large (and largely illuminated) cities. . This is a single shot, mildly edited. I finally got this beauty listed! Meteorite and moissanite in palladium sterling silver. And for a special full moon/equinox, it’s on sale for tonight only (and until I get up tomorrow morning west coast time) it’s currently 7 1/4 but could be stretched up a bit. See link in profile to shop. . Day 20 for #marchmeetthemaker is Design Process - swipe to see a little bit of the process of this ring. I generally don’t draw anything ahead of time. For the meteorite pieces, I pick the meteorite and see what happens. Normally I do a single band, but the shape of this one just needed a little something extra so I just played around in the wax until it looked just right. You could say that my design process is a bit of a mystery, even to me! The veil nebula, my favorite. 💜💙💛 Although I prefer to refer to it as the "tube" nebula. This view is actually a small segment of the remnants of a bigger supernova which occured 8000 years ago, 2100 light years away in the Cygnus constellation. The whole nebula spans over 110 light years in space, and was taken by the Hubble telescope. The small section above is only two light years across. Eh. I admit that "veil" nebula is more elegant. Opportunity, also known as MER-B (Mars Exploration Rover – B) or MER-1, and nicknamed "Oppy", is a robotic rover that was active on Mars from 2004 to late 2018. Launched on July 7, 2003, as part of NASA's Mars Exploration Rover program, it landed in Meridiani Planum on January 25, 2004, three weeks after its twin Spirit (MER-A) touched down on the other side of the planet. With a planned 90-sol duration of activity (slightly more than 90 Earth days), Opportunity was able to stay operational for 5111 sols after landing, maintaining its power and key systems through continual recharging of its batteries using solar power, and hibernating during events such as dust storms to save power. This careful operation allowed Opportunity to exceed its operating plan by 14 years, 46 days (in Earth time), 55 times its designed lifespan. By June 10, 2018, when it last contacted NASA, the rover had traveled a distance of 45.16 kilometers (28.06 miles).

A quasar is a massive and extremely remote celestial object, emitting exceptionally large amounts of energy, and typically having a starlike image in a telescope. #Repost@transforming_physics (@get_repost) ・・・ Here it is: the connection between space and time in a beautiful and elegant formula... According to the theory of relativity, time dilation is a difference in the elapsed time measured by two observers, either due to a velocity difference relative to each other, or by being differently situated relative to a gravitational field. As a result of the nature of spacetime,a clock that is moving relative to an observer will be measured to tick slower than a clock that is at rest in the observer's own frame of reference. A clock that is under the influence of a stronger gravitational field than an observer's will also be measured to tick slower than the observer's own clock. Such time dilation has been repeatedly demonstrated, for instance by small disparities in a pair of atomic clocks after one of them is sent on a space trip, or by clocks on the Space Shuttle running slightly slower than reference clocks on Earth, or clocks on GPS and Galileo satellites running slightly faster.Time dilation has also been the subject of science fiction works, as it technically provides the means for forward time travel. .. . .  #mathmeme #mathformula#mathproblems #mathteacher #formula#transforming_physics#spacefacts #ilovespace #superbluemoon#onceinabluemoon #spacenerd#nerdlife#space #universe#cosmos#science #nature#cosmology #galaxy #spacefan #spacefan#astronomy #nightsky #milkywaygalaxy #nosound#spaceviews #astronomer#solarsystem #knowledge

Do you have anything that you would like to experience on Earth before your last
Do you have anything that you would like to experience on Earth before your last days here? Some might call this a bucket list, I like to call it a “miracle list” as there are so many miracles present right in front of us, in our everyday lives when we stop to take time to notice. Meeting with real astronaut Winston Scott at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center is a perfect example that almost never occurred. In this instance, it just so happened that we were in the right place at the right time. Most of you might not know this about me, but this has been one of my dreams since being a young child that finally came true. What a gem and an experience I will truly never forget! To top it of we even got to tour the Space X rocket launch site in Cape Canaveral hours after a test rocket was launched into space. This is a living testimony that miracles really do come true! Never stop believing...

Portholes I made for the space kitchen a couple weeks ago. Then I realized clocks would make great spaceship windows. We may live a “goth life” but before that were artists. Every room in the house is a different color and theme. #speedoflight#theoryofrelativity#tributeEinstein In the early 1900s, scientists held firm to the Newtonian view of the world. Then a German-born mathematician and physicist by the name of Albert Einstein came along and changed everything. In 1905, Einstein published his theory of special relativity, which put forth a startling idea: There is no preferred frame of reference. Everything, even time, is relative. Two important principles underpinned his theory. The first stated that the same laws of physics apply equally in all constantly moving frames of reference. The second said that the speed of light -- about 186,000 miles per second (300,000 kilometres per second) -- is constant and independent of the observer's motion or the source of light. As an object approaches the speed of light, its mass rises precipitously. If an object tries to travel 186,000 miles per second, its mass becomes infinite, and so does the energy required to move it. For this reason, no normal object can travel as fast or faster than the speed of light. But what if we tweaked it to say, "What if you travelled almost as fast as the speed of light?" In that case, you would experience some interesting effects. One famous result is something physicists call time dilation, which describes how time runs more slowly for objects moving very rapidly. I have always considered myself being “closed” minded. I thought you need to do A then B before you can move on to C. I never thought about the world or my future in a different light. • • Did you know that we get the majority of our oxygen from diatomic molecules not trees? • • National Geographic has done it again. This is a fascinating documentary and it made me appreciate life so much more and has brought out the nerd in me. I find so interesting how the world evolved from a scientific aspect and is still evolving to meet our needs. I have never put much thought about life outside earth until now. Life is so beautiful and I am so grateful to be alive. • • #ilovespace#knowledgeispower#learningnewthings#openupyoureyes#openupyourmind#happymindhappylife#nerd#nationalgeographic

Neptune! The furthest known planet. Here are some facts about Neptune. This is the third most massive planet of the solar system! Neptune makes a full orbit around the sun every 164.8 years.... just like Jupiter this planet has a giant storm too called the great dark spot. unlike Jupiter's spot, which has lasted for hundreds of years, the storms on Neptune have shorter live time. People discovered Neptune existed on 23 September 1846! Follow me for daily facts and beatifull photos of space :) #ilovespace#space#neptune#spacefacts

⭐Pluto was discovered by Clyde Tombaugh in 1930 and was originally considered to be the ninth planet from the Sun. After 1992, its status as a planet was questioned following the discovery of several objects of similar size in the Kuiper belt. In 2005, Eris, a dwarf planet in the scattered disc which is 27% more massive than Pluto, was discovered. This led the International Astronomical Union (IAU) to define the term "planet" formally in 2006, during their 26th General Assembly. That definition excluded Pluto and reclassified it as a dwarf planet. ✴ ⭐➖➖➖➖➖Composition➖➖➖➖➖➖ ✴ Pluto is one third water. This is in the form of water ice which is more than 3 times as much water as in all the Earth’s oceans, the remaining two thirds are rock. Pluto’s surface is covered with ices, and has several mountain ranges, light and dark regions, and a scattering of craters. ✴ ⭐➖➖➖➖➖Atmosphere➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ ✴ Pluto sometimes has an atmosphere. When Pluto elliptical orbit takes it closer to the Sun, its surface ice thaws and forms a thin atmosphere primarily of nitrogen which slowly escapes the planet. It also has a methane haze that overs about 161 kilometres above the surface. The methane is dissociated by sunlight into hydrocarbons that fall to the surface and coat the ice with a dark covering. When Pluto travels away from the Sun the atmosphere then freezes back to its solid state. ✴ ⭐➖➖➖➖➖➖Satellites➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ ✴ Pluto has five known moons. The moons are Charon (discovered in 1978,), Hydra and Nix (both discovered in 2005), Kerberos (discovered 2011) and Styx (discovered 2012.) ✴ ⭐➖➖➖➖➖Orbit & Rotation➖➖➖➖➖ ✴ Pluto's day is equal to 6.39 Earth days while it's year is equal to 238 Earth years. Like Uranus, Pluto rotates on its "side" in its orbital plane, with an axial tilt of 120°, and so its seasonal variation is extreme. The planet's orbit is also very eccentric with parts of it leading it to be closer to the sun than Neptune. ✴ 🔥Make sure to follow for even more interesting STEM related facts and pieces of knowledge.🔥

What a beautiful nebula! So colourful! Alright now that that’s done here are some facts about the closest star to our solar system: Proxima Centauri. Although it’s the closest star even this is crazy far away it is about 4,243 light years away! This star is a red dwarf. That also means it’s 2/10 the size of the sun we have!! The temperatures of proxima centauri can reach about 3000°C. This star also has a planet orbiting it! One little one called Proxima Centauri B! 🔥Want me to include Pluto on this tour of the solar system? Make sure to comment and make your voice heard! Also, follow to get some more awesome facts about STEM related stuff. ✴ ⭐The eighth planet from the sun, Neptune, was first observed by the German astronomer Johann Gall on September 23, 1846. Despite this, not much was known about Neptune until Voyager 2 shone light into the amazing intricacies of the furthest planet in the solar system in 1989. ✴ ⭐➖➖➖➖➖Atmosphere➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ ✴ The atmosphere on Neptune is composed of 80% hydrogen and 19% helium with traces of methane just like Uranus. In contrast to Uranus though, Neptune's atmosphere has a much darker blue coloration. Another interesting feature of Neptune's atmosphere is that it contains significant weather patterns that have lead to the creation of "Dark spots" which are storms equivalent to those of Jupiter and where wind speeds reach up to 600 m/s. ✴ ⭐➖➖➖➖➖➖Interior➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ ✴ Like Uranus, Neptune's interior is split into a core and a mantle. The core is rocky and is believed to be 1.2 times the mass of Earth while the mantle is an extremely hot and dense liquid made of water, ammonia, and methane. ✴ ⭐➖➖➖➖Orbit & Rotation➖➖➖➖➖➖ ✴ Neptune lies 30 AUs from the sun which means it takes a massive 4 hours and 40 minutes for sunlight to travel the distance to the cold planet. This large stretch naturally means Neptune has to travel a longer distance than the other planets to revolve around the sun. This distance is covered in 165 Earth years while a Neptunian dsy is covered extremely quickly at 18 hours per rotation. And last but not least, Neptune has a 28° tilt that gives it subtle seasons. ✴ ⭐➖➖➖➖➖➖Rings➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ ✴ In the Neptunian rings lie thirteen moons with only Triton being big and circular. It is theorized that Triton was once a dwarf planet that was captured by Neptune's gravity with the evidence lying in the fact that the moon revolves retrograde to Neptune's rotation. Neptune has three major rings with the names of Adams, Le Verrier, and Galle. This ring system is much fainter than the rings of other planets and are believed to be made of small particles of ice and debris.

Jupiter! The biggest planet of the solar system! In this picture Jupiter is not shown fully. But u can clearly see the gas and storms on the surface (Jupiter doesn’t have a surface) Below Jupiter’s massive atmosphere (which is made primarily of hydrogen), there are layers of compressed hydrogen gas, liquid metallic hydrogen, and a core of ice, rock, and metals. Jupiter also has rings! Which is not popular due to not being able to see it because they are so thin. This picture is taken by the Juno spacecraft which has taken very high quality photos of Jupiter and helped the research of Jupiter very much. The largest moon Jupiter has is called Ganymede it’s larger then a planet called mercury! Follow me for daily facts about space and awesome pictures. :) #spacefacts#ilovespace#space#jupiter#gasgiant

Saturn! One of the most beautiful planets of the solar system. Just like Uranus it has a ring! Like Jupiter, Saturn is a gas giant and is composed of similar gasses including hydrogen, helium and methane. Saturn is also the sixth planet but can be seen with the naked eye. Saturn’s rings are made mostly of chunks of ice and small amounts of carbonaceous dust. This photo was taken by the Cassini spacecraft in 2016, but later Cassini crashed into Saturn... :( Saturn also has 150 moons and other little moons! The second largest moon of our solar system is the moon of Saturn: Titan! If it were not orbiting Saturn it could be considered a planet.
