¿QUÉ ES LA MEMORIA MUSCULAR? Cualquier persona que, por fuerza mayor, lesión o similares, haya tenido que dejar de entrenar durante un período de tiempo considerable ( 6 meses por ejemplo ) se habrá dado cuenta que cuando ha vuelto a su rutina habitual tanto la fuerza como el músculo perdidos durante el período de inactividad se recuperan mucho más rápidamente que cuando los generó por primera vez de la nada. Lo que en su día costó meses o incluso años de duro trabajo y esfuerzo esta vez lo ha logrado en unas pocas semanas y todo vuelve a estar como antes del parón. Esto se conoce coloquialmente como Memoria Muscular. ¿A QUÉ SE DEBE? Hasta ahora se venía pensando que esta recuperación tan rápida tenía su origen en las adaptaciones que se habían generado a nivel del sistema nervioso mientras se entrenaba, que permitían esos avances tan pronunciados en poco tiempo. Eso puede ser ( de hecho, es ) una parte de la razón. Sin embargo eso sólo explica el porqué de las ganancias de fuerza. No las musculares. Las células musculares ( o miocitos ) son muy particulares. Son unas células muy complejas que, a diferencia de otras, tienen más de un núcleo. Eso es debido a que el miocito, al ser tan grande y complejo, necesita más de un núcleo para poder controlar todas las funciones. De hecho un miocito puede contener centenares de núcleos. Lógicamente, al hipertrofiar y ganar masa muscular esos miocitos requieren de cada vez más núcleos para poder seguir desarrollando sus funciones correctamente.  Se ha podido comprobar que cuanto mayor es el tamaño de un músculo mayor cantidad de núcleos contiene. Mi cliente a distancia francisco tras un parón nos muestra tras 4 semanas de asesoramiento nutricional personalizado que vuelve a recuperar el tono perdido durante todo este tiempo, con gente así se vuelve todo más fácil. Surprise, surprise I’m having my fav mini burgers with sweet potato buns for dinner again! . This time, with a side of roasted brussel sprouts, carrots, and onions 🙌🏼 . In the latest episode of my podcast with a PhD chemist, he mentioned how our environment and water supply is laced with estrogen mimicking compounds which can spell trouble when trying to get pregnant. . Luckily, cruciferous veggies like brussel sprouts support healthy estrogen metabolism 🙌🏼 . When crucifers are added to one’s daily diet, their active ingredients, indole-3-carbinol (I3C) and 3,3'-diindolylmethane (DIM) affect estrogen metabolism and lead to favorable shifts in hormone markers which in turn may reduce the incidence of several types of cancer. . Since the crucifers allow the estrogen to be metabolized into “good” estrogen aka 2-hydroxy estrogen, many symptoms of estrogen overload can be avoided. . The “bad” estrogen metabolites are responsible for estrogen’s many undesirable actions, such as heavy periods, weight gain, mood swings, depression, low thyroid symptoms, and greater risks for fibroids, endometriosis, breast, and uterine cancers. . Be sure to tune in to the latest episode of my podcast for even more info on the topic but it’s safe to say that if you’re wanting to become pregnant or even just experiencing hormonal issues, adding cruciferous veggies is a great place to start 🙌🏼🙏🏼

As is usually the case, plant foods deliver significantly less bio-available vitamins and nutrients than animal foods. To get relevant amounts of Omega 3's in your diet, seafood is essential. Clams, oysters, salmon, mussels, mackerel, sardines, herring and many others are going to be your best bet. I find that taking cod liver oil or krill oil daily is a good way to supplement if you're not big on seafood.
