starting this year with my workouts in the morning which means I’m getting up at 5am most mornings & then dragging my tired ass home close to 6pm - tryna combat the normal exhaustion by staying away from caffeine overloads & crashes _ rather drinking lots of water/ teas & walking away from stress I don’t need_which today involved my student responding to a history question stating “it’s true because Wikipedia says so” walking away ...💃🏼 🧨🌿

It's time for a reality check. This year my goal is to run my fastest half marathon yet and if I'm being honest with myself, my current training is not setting me up to reach that goal. • I'm not trying to beat myself up, just trying to be realistic so I can ultimately reach my goals. So here are the current problems I see and what I can do to fix them: • 🏃🏼‍♀️Weekend Mileage - It's been low lately. This weekend I didn't run at all. I definitely could have fit in my runs but instead I relaxed, worked, had fun with friends and cleaned. Not necessarily a bad thing BUT again, my priorities need to shift if I'm going to run faster. And in general, I need to just get my booty out the door and get it done! *Solution - schedule runs by making run dates with friends or plans to run with local groups on Saturday & Sunday. Experiment with doing a long run during the week again. • 😴Sleep - I have never been the best about catching Zzzzzs. Definitely my worst habit. I stay up late and then love the early rise and shine. Lately this has been particularly bad. Partly due to stress - I'm been staying up late with anxious thoughts during the week. It's all related - Friday night I fell asleep close to 4am talking on the phone and then slept in until 12pm the next day because I forgot to set an alarm and I was exhausted. Thus my Saturday morning run was nixed. *Solution - start getting ready for bed at 10pm (that's soon) so I have time to wind down and establish a relaxing bedtime routine. Remind myself that this is as important as training runs and a good night sleep sets me up for a great morning workout. • Again, if I'm being honest, I don't think that I am ready to run my best at the Shamrock Half Marathon in March. But, like this post, the race will be a reality check and a rust buster. I will try my best and from now on, I am prioritizing according to my running goals. I think it's important to be positive but realistic. We can always improve and being honest with yourself allows you to set realistic short-term goals on the journey to reach your long-term ones. • Reality check - What is one thing you think you could improve about your training/health routine?

This year I’ve started Run with @headspace on the @nikerunning App and it’s been a total game changer. 10 runs so far! 😅 I am not NOT a distance runner. But the ~30 minute running sessions through the app have all been therapeutic. Jogging used to be exhausting and I couldn’t go more than 10 minutes. However, the app has been so helpful in guiding runs into a productive meditative activity that helps me run without stopping (unheard of!) 😮 So grateful for this genius collaboration and looking forward to building endurance and discipline in both mind and body 💕🙏

#Marathoner x 2!!🙌 Today was everything I could have asked for and beyond starting with waking up feeling a heck of a lot better than these past few days.💜 My smile was so big throughout the 26.3 (yes this course is 26.3 😜) and so especially huge those last few miles I was afraid it was going to turn to tears and I don't usually get that emotional about running. For me it's never about time, it's about the experience and how I feel, and what that represents to me. And today I saw the hard work that I've put in to my nutrition and hydration over the last year play out and it filled me with enormous gratitude for how healthy and strong I am. I drank my entire 80 ounces by mile 21 and then had to hit the water stops. The only downside to drinking so much is I had to take a pit stop just before mile 20, which was just a little frustrating just because I was in such a good groove. But did what I had to do and got back to it! I'm learning hydration trumps not wanting to take a pit stop.😬 I wanted two things out of today. To have fun and to not hit a wall in the last miles and I got both. The sun was absolutely brutal out there and those hills between mile 23 and 25 were unforgiving. I struggled but I pushed through and reminded myself what @laura.runs.co always tells me. I am one tough cookie!🍪 I am also so happy to have met @cara.lancellotti and Joe and hang out with them before the start. Made that waiting time fly and we have so much in common.💜 We also got to see each other out on the course and cheer for each other. It inspired the heck out of me to see her crushing it out there. I'm also beyond grateful for how supportive and encouraging this community is. All your messages between yesterday and this morning made me feel like I had a whole team out there rooting for me. January workouts are so stinkin’ hard. If it’s not freezing outside it’s icy and windy or always dark because we work when it’s light outside. I find I have to work for extra motivation to get after it. I mix up my routines, attend some new classes, try new workouts. The work you put in now will pay off this spring and summer. Don’t wait and DEFINITELY DON’T BE A JANUARY STATISTIC. Grab an accountability buddy and have fun. Mix it up.

13.1 and done! The morning was a bit chaotic, I forgot my energy gels at home and then I left my water (with @skratchlabs) in my backpack with my husband. 🙄 Well, my husband is seriously amazing. He drove all the way home to grab my gels and met me at mile 7 with them and my water!! I have to think it’s because of him that I managed to PR for this race at 1:59:11. (@michaelblountjr 😘) . I wasn’t able to do almost any speed work during training this fall. I think I managed maybe 3 days 🤔 (because of my back). But I stuck with it, I pushed myself where I could, rested when I needed, got a lot of acupuncture 😂, and just had a lot of fun!! What a fun morning!
