Unconventional Barbell Work ••• A solid workout program should not only make you move in every direction, it should help you develop strength through all ranges of motion and increase your movement variability in order to prevent injury inside and outside of the gym. One way that we can build strength is by performing anti-rotational exercises. ••• In the video above, my small group class is working on my anti-rotational strength by incorporating the @onnitacademy Unconventional Barbell methods. This offset barbell work is way harder than it looks! Their whole body has to stabilize in order to keep them from twisting, and they are creating tension in order to keep the barbell straight. Talk about a core workout! ••• What I love most about using these exercises (or incorporating the Steel Mace into my training) is that they truly call for me to be present and to focus on what my body is working/feeling. Scapula Retraction and Protraction ___ If you want strong, mobile, and resilient shoulders you need to build strength through your scapula's entire range of motion as well. Due to our lazy ass culture it can be easy for folks scapula to get basically glued down to the rib cage and severely restrict movement. So lets free them up! ___ The key here is to maintain a locked elbow so you isolate the movement to the scapula. Also make sure you are getting to MAX end range in each position - everyone half asses this the first time around, this should feel like work! Squeeze your shoulder blades together HARD and press away from the wall like you are trying to press your shoulders off your body. ___ Hold both positions for 3-5 seconds (1 rep) and perform 3 sets of 5-8 reps. When I approach programming and teaching the handstands, I like to break it down in my head into three different stages. __ You have the correct mobility and muscle activation to achieve the handstand position. You have the actual act of balancing the handstand. Because as I have said before, the handstand is not a static exercise, it’s a constant weight distribution between the palm and finger tips of the hand. Lastly you have the actual kick-up portion to correctly get into the starting position of the handstand. Neglecting any of these will lead to problems and plateauing somewhere in your journey. __ One of the later stage rebalancing drills I like to program for my remote training clients are these handstand scissor drills. Any weak points in your mobility or muscle activation preparation will show when you try to slowly and under control pull your feet off the wall. __ You want your hands roughly 18” from the wall, one foot in front of you, the other in contact with the wall. If you are able to correctly activate your shoulders and stack them over your elbows and wrist, you should be able to slowly and under control pull your foot off the wall and pause at any moment while moving the feet. This is a great way to develop that time under tension being upside down.

Knee surgery is never fun and the recovery can be very 🤬. Alex blew out his knee the last week of October of last year. Got surgery on his meniscus and MCL. Since then he hasn’t been able to do flexion very well with his left leg. After One ☝🏼 session of @voilamethod we were able to increase his leg 🦵 flexion. No pain involved!!! Balancing out his bones to were they need to go and releasing the emotions that were blocking him from moving freely. The power of the human body is incredible. WORKOUT Bench press @225 x 1,2,3,...,10 =55 reps Deadlift @225 x 10,9,8,...,1 =55 reps Push ups 10,9,8,...,1 =55 reps Pull ups 1,2,3,...,10 =55 reps FINISHER 5 rounds Row machine x 11 calories =55 calories Burpees x 11 reps =55 reps *1st round do 1 rep bench, 10 deadlifts, 10 push ups, 1 pull up. 2nd round 2 rep bench, 9 deadlifts, 9 push ups, 2 pull ups and so on. Easy way to remember you always do 11 reps for push bench+push ups, deadlifts+pull ups or 11 reps for bench+deadlifts and push ups+pull ups. Pick appropriate weight to finish all the way thru while moving the whole time. I'm loving it so much and it's only day 3 of taking it. I already notice a considerable difference between this and the other pre workouts I've been using. I think I found a new staple in my regimen. In order to perform at a high level and move like an athlete with high threshold strategies you must first develop a strong base of low threshold strategies. This means that you are performing movements with little to no dysfunctional compensation. Suffering from recurring injuries at the back, hip or ankle? Save this workout and do about 3 sets of 15 or 2 sets of 20. Start light! I’m only using 32.5 pounds here ☠️ Keep the handle centered and don’t let your hip shift throughout the movement. The Kettlebell Swing is the most effective exercise for building strength, burning fat, and having improved athletic performance. The problem is 95% of people in the gym get it wrong. : When it comes to the kettlebell swing, you must first learn the motion of the hip hinge/deadlift. Thanks to @supplementkingoshawa for having exactly what I needed! I've very particular about pre-workout. I do alot of research before I buy, And this one has proven to be even better than I'd hoped! Some I've had end up being slightly carbonated and I'm not about that. Makes me feel super bloated and gross. This Angry Unicorn is hands down the best I've had. The taste is spot on. Happy Wednesday fam! Hope you’re doing well. Me? I’m doing just fine, just here practicing a little arm balancing on the parallette bars. Out of all the tools I train with the P-bars are definitely one of the most challenging ones for me. The L sit exercise is still new to me but I do feel stronger every time I practice them. I really enjoy this exercise because it’s not only great for overall strength but it also blasts the shit out of your core and upper body. It also requires a good amount of balance & control through different ranges of motion in the wrist, elbows, shoulders & hips which can translate to other aspects of your training. Should you choose to try the tuck to L-sit combo make sure you keep your arms tight to your body with your shoulders back and down away from your ears, keep your spine tall and stacked with your chest up nice and proud (try not to slouch) and then point your toes out in front of you. Try to keep your movement slow and honest as you make your transitions as this helps create the muscle memory you need to keep improving on your practice, and it will also help keep you injury free. Try it out, if not, then just stick to what works for you. After all, exercise should be fun & enjoyable if you truly want to make it a lifelong practice. Doing things you hate doing or just because someone told you to is unsustainable & will usually fade out quicker than a practice that you actually enjoy doing. Alright peeps, that’s all for today.
