Who would have known breathing is important.. - The simple word “meditation” and the stigma around it of who you need to be to do it or what you need to do to make a habit out of it is distorted.. you don’t have to be a world loving hippie (be careful though you might actually start to love the world a little more). You don’t have to zen out all day, you don’t have to be a Yogi/Vegan/Organic, peacekeeper.. you literally just need to take some time each day to focus on breathing, deeply. - I started with 10 breaths in the shower and connected that with practicing yoga (that works for me and compliments strength training quite well). - Meditation doesn’t mean you’re sitting upright, legs crossed, humming and holding you index finger to thumb.. it’s taking your mind away from all the bullshit your stressing about and just simply focusing on breathing for a short - long duration of time. Don’t get annoyed if you find it’s hard to control your thoughts, just focus on breathing again and again with no judgement to your current ability to do so.

Yet experience shows that going back to basics is rarely a waste of time. . During the first month (Foundations phase), the focus is entirely put on forming the right dieting habits. Experience shows that this takes long and it is important not to lose focus hence no exercise nor calorie counting yet. . During the next phase ('Ramp up') the diet being established, on the nutrition side the focus is on adjusting quantities to the chosen goal. Typically, the two big focuses are setting proteins at about 1.5g/kg of body mass and adjusting the calorie intake to the target: Either a moderate calorie deficit if the focus is on weight loss, or moderate calorie surplus if the focus is on muscle building. . The third phase of 8 months ('Boost') focuses on increasing the amount of exercise, and in particular of strength training. This is where most fitness progress is made. . After 12 months, the transformation program is complete. At the minimum, time is now to balance the calorie intake (neither surplus nor deficit) and to establish an exercise routine where strength and cardio remain, but with the now gained fitness, it is time to choose a Fun sport done primarily for the pleasure (Tennis, climbing, football, boxing...). Often enough though, participants want to continue progress.
