DAY 44 | I would have said it was a much better run commute this morning.. As I fixed some bag issues by tightening and loosening some of the straps to make the bag fit better to the body and tadaaaa.. No more bouncing which already makes things so much smoother.. Annoying it was such a simple change that made things so much more comfortable. On the other hand.. Like I said yesterday, I needed to leave a little earlier due to the ice on the paths.. And I didn't give myself much wiggle room. The paths were ice AF this morning and I really thought I was gon a miss my train as I had to slow right down to almost walking on the steep downhill bits.. 🤦‍♀️ Managed to make up some time running across the meadows like a looney though 😂

BUT here it is on MLK day... about 3 weeks into January...& this is typicaly the time when most people who had set a New Year's resolution see their motivation and enthusiasm begin to wane. So- move it or lose it. It's that simple. And honestly; it doesn't matter what you do as long as you do IT. Find something you love so that you'll keep doing it because you enjoy the activity. Meet Terry --- Terry has not only excelled during 2018 but he has exemplified what can be achieved when you combine hard work, consistency and an unbreakable spirit. . Terry approached me at 53 years of age having never followed a formal training program before. Yes, he had used a few machines in the gym but he had never been shown the movement patterns that we all should strive to master. Imagine performing your first training session at 53, where you are thrust into a new environment and everything you were being asked to do was alien to you - I’m sure many of you can relate to this. Not only were they new movement patterns, but having worked as a builder for over 30 years, Terry needed to re-programme his whole body to override the imbalances and postural habits he had built up over that time. . Roll on 2 years and Terry is now 55 but you wouldn’t know it. He has trained with me twice per week every week (without fail), and added a third session which he performs with guidance when needed. Terry has completely rebuilt his body and strived for perfection in everything he has done - it has not been about getting the ‘burn’, ‘pump’ or a ‘sweat’, it has been about performing quality movement and building a strong, robust and resilient body. . With careful attention to what he eats, Terry’s body composition has changed dramatically and his fat percentage has plummeted while his muscle mass has gone up considerably. He has performed some amazing feats. . These include: 1) Decreasing his body fat to 13% (at the start it was close to 25%). . 2) Deadlifting 2.25 x his bodyweight. That is a 170kg deadlift at a bodyweight of 75kg (at the start, he was only able to lift 100kg) 3) Performing chin ups with 20% of his bodyweight added on (at the start Terry could not perform one chin-up) 4) Mastered the single leg squat . When did it become fashionable to label the type of eater you are? Or have we been glorifying diets since FOREVER? 〰️ Does the label we give ourselves as eaters make us feel like we belong somewhere and that makes us feel good? 🤦🏻‍♀️ 〰️ I have watched countless documentaries on diets and eating, the amount of effort that goes into making claims against one food group over another is MIND BLOWING 🤯 and then comes the glorification of how wonderful their weight loss has been but when you look at ALL aspects it becomes blindingly obvious. 〰️ I cannot imagine how intimidating it must be to decide on what to eat these days? 〰️ I’ve come to the conclusion that when it comes to loosing weight and trying to be “healthy” it seems too obvious. 💁🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ 〰️ Sweets 🍭, chocolates 🍫, baked goods like cakes 🍰 and pies 🥧 and fruit juice 🥤 are BAD FOR YOU! 〰️ But stop blaming carbohydrates (because there are healthy carbohydrates too) on your weight gain. Eating carbs is not the only reason you are gaining weight. If you cannot control your portion sizes then that is another matter altogether. Or if you are gluten intolerant then yes I totally get it but remember to loose weight it comes down to the cold hard truth, are the calories you are putting in to your body in excess or not? 〰️ If they are, regardless of what macro they are, you WILL PICK UP WEIGHT! 〰️ So who cares whether you are paleo, vegan, flexitarian, lactose free - WHATEVER. Do what is right for you but also do not be ignorant around your weight gain. Ask yourself: 1. Am I exercising EVERYDAY? 2. Am I drinking enough water? 3. Am I getting enough sleep? 4. Am I binge eating on the things I KNOW are bad for me? 5. Am I over eating? Are my portion sizes too big? 〰️ This was our dinner last night, balanced and complete. Both healthy. One meal is vegan and the other not. My vegan food super high in carbohydrates but there isn’t a single BAD item on my plate, Dillon eats meat but still healthy for him. #findyourbalance

80g coconut oil, melted, plus a smidge for the tin 50g self-raising flour 100g ground almonds 2 scoops (60g) vanilla protein powder 1 tsp baking powder 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda Salt 80g cocoa powder (over 70 per cent cocoa solids), plus more for dusting 150ml maple syrup 200ml coconut milk Zest of 1 orange Coconut yoghurt and strawberries and/or raspberries, to serve – optional - ⬇️ - ⬇️ - Preheat oven to 160C (fan 140C, gas 3). Grease a 20cm round cake tin with a little coconut oil and line the base with ­baking parchment. Mix the self-raising flour, ground almonds, vanilla ­protein powder, baking ­powder, bicarbonate of soda and a pinch of salt in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk the cocoa powder with 150ml boiling water until well combined, then whisk in the melted coconut oil, maple syrup, coconut milk and orange zest. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and give ­everything a good whisk until you have a smooth, runny batter. Pour into the cake tin and bake for 35 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the ­centre of the cake comes out clean. Cool in the tin. Then dust with a little cocoa powder and serve topped with coconut yoghurt and berries, if you like.
