The Golden rock on a rainy, misty and windy evening. The Golden Rock is one of the three holiest places in Myanmar for the followers of the Buddha. Hair strands given by the Buddha Gautama himself to one of the two brothers (former princes) during his visit to the area is believed to be enshrined inside the rock. Also the rock itself (apparently) does not rest completely on the base rock but floats just above. #placeofworship#buddharelic#goldenrock#travel#wanderlust#tourist#culture#myanmar#myanmarmemories#wanderlust#travel#ngtuk#natgeo#natgeotravel#natgeotraveller#natgeotravelpic@myanmartourism@igmyanmar@myanmarstreetphotography@pronititravel

Wat Chedi Luang Chiang Saen - I could not help but wonder how glorious it was back when the temple was at the height of its glory during 12-14 century. It was built as the Royal Temple for the #lannakingdom one with massive Chedi, the largest and tallest religious Lanna monument in #chiangsaen that supposedly contained a #buddharelic The whole compound is massive. There are many ruins of minor chedis around and numerous Buddha statues in different poses. If you look carefully, you could see the difference in workmanship of these statues and ironically I do believe that the older the statue, the more intricate and fine the workmanship is. As I exit the compound, the lion statue that survived all these years looked so magnificent as the light start to disappear, it seemed to roar in silence. I turned back one last time and looked at the closest guardian statue in kneeling position that are placed on the walls of the compound, I could see how the sculptor had put so much care in creating them. The peaceful expression on the face with body proportion so accurately detailed with adornments and palms pressed together close to the chest, they look as though thanking everyone who walked through the gates for their worship. It is so remarkable that today after all these years I can still see with my own eyes the best of Lanna craftsmanship which I hope had not been lost in today’s modern world. On our visit to Yele Pagoda outside Than Lyin, a European monk poses for photos
On our visit to Yele Pagoda outside Than Lyin, a European monk poses for photos with our two Australian yogis. According to legend, King Bhogasena, founder of the Pada Kingdom, built a pagoda named Kyaik Hmyaw Kadaw (က်ိဳက္ေမွာ္ကေတာ), roughly 250 years after the Buddha’s passing and on the advice of his guru hermit. That pagoda enshrined one sacred Hair Relic of the Buddha. Then, in the 11th century, King Tutta Naga received the gift of another Buddha Hair Relic, along with twenty-seven other relics given by the king of Sri Lanka and eight Lankan Arahants. The king then made three solemn wishes at the site: first, that the water would never entirely flood the pagoda; second, that any pilgrims who wished to come would be able to; and third, that those who looked after the pagoda would receive benefit in this very life from their meritorious deed. #yele#yelepagoda#thanlyin#sacredhairrelic#buddharelic

°°°Motithang Takin Preserve, Thimphu°°° Did you know about the national animal of Bhutan? Well if your answer is no, then you’re not alone in that. Located in the district of Motithang in Thimphu, Motithang Takin Preserve serves as the home of the famous species of takin. Many travelers consider visiting this zoo-converted-reserve as one of the best tips while traveling to Bhutan. The Takin is a rare type of animal and falls under the goat species and their actual habitat is the eastern Himalayas. These animals live in the high altitudes of the country, also found in Northwest Myanmar, northwest India as well. These odd-looking animals according to the local legends were assembled by a 15th-century saint who agreed to create a miracle. This saint joined the head of a goat at the top of a cow’s skeleton and brought this new type of animal to life. Apart from myths, this animal is the result of evolution and has a protracted nose, large head, and strong torso provides it a different look. The Takins live around the 8.4 acres from the rainforest and the Bhutan government is taking good care of them by preserving the species and they do not keep the animals in a zoo because they believe in non-confinement of animals in a Buddhist country. Most Myanmar Pilgrimage trips stop through rural Ingyinbin, where devotees may take in a special site... Buddha Relics given to Webu Sayadaw in Sri Lanka by the Prime Minister. As "Shwe Lan Ga Lay Part 2" explains... "The story begins in Sri Lanka, where the Italian monk, U Lokanātha, was a personal friend of the prime minister. The two often corresponded by letter, and at one point, the Sri Lankan leader lamented that there were no fully enlightened beings left in the world. U Lokanātha replied that there was at least one such person, Webu Sayadaw. As the monk later relayed to the prime minister’s niece Ayoma, Webu “was a very special and lofty person, that he was radiating peace that put also the devotees paying their respect at peace.” The prime minister was so impressed that he expressed a desire to meet the Burmese monk and pay respects. However, unable to travel freely due to his government duties, he instead invited Webu to come to Sri Lanka at his earliest convenience. The Prime Minister’s older brother, a tea merchant, made arrangements for Webu’s journey, a boat trip that took three nights. During this sea voyage, Webu and at least one of his entourage, U Sumana, developed seasickness. Webu advised him thusly, “All you need to do is meditate. If you feel seasick, meditate in a relaxed way. It will disappear. This is the best medicine.” When the party arrived in Kandy, a large entourage was there to meet him. He would end up staying for 22 days, giving frequent Dhamma talks, and then visited the sacred sites in India before returning back to Burma. On one occasion, Webu was shown the sacred Buddha Relics at the National Museum. U Maṇḍala explains that these were believed to have been brought to Sri Lanka in the 3rd century B.C.E. during the reign of King Devānampiyatissa." [This is all the space Instagram has given us to tell the story.
