So this little video project was pretty much a fail, but I figured I'd share it anyways😂 ⠀ A lot of people ask me what you can do in place of a back extension machine/attachment if you don't have access to one. I've never had an answer I was satisfied with, so when I figured out this little movement I was excited!.. ⠀ It was only after recording that I realized this is actually a substitution for a reverse hyper machine, not a back extension🤦🏿‍♂️ It works pretty much the same muscles, only from the opposite angle. ⠀ I swear, I've been having the most brain farts lately! It reminds me of when I'm dieting, which I'm definitely not doing at the moment lol. I think I'm just distracted, lots of moving parts in my life right now. ⠀ Anyways, I actually prefer the reverse hyper, so I figure I'd share the video anyways🤙🏿 ⠀ P.S. I was also trying to explain as I demonstrated the movement, only I didn't use my big boy voice so you can't hear anything, hence the cheesy music😂 ⠀ So while this was a fail, I still think there's value in the exercise. ⠀ P.P.S. Oh, and make sure you have someone spot you when you try it. Falling backwards on the handstand [Voice Over 🔊] - The drill is to help you recover from falling backwards in the handstand. You’re basically performing a banana or Mexican handstand variation to save your Freestanding Handstand. - Begin on the wall and kick up into the handstand facing away from the wall. Let your body arch and break alignment. This is how it’ll feel when your legs fall backwards. From here, shrug your shoulders up, open your chest, and push the floor with your fingertips. At the same time, engage the abs to help you get into a Hollow Body Position. This will help you pull your legs back into alignment instead of having to push the wall to hold the handstand. - When you get better at the drill you’ll have to pair this drill with the forward lean drill that I posted a few days ago. You’ll be able to pull your legs off of the wall but then you’ll have to correct if you over pull bc it will feel Ike you want to fall forward. So lean forward like your performing a HS Push Up in an angled orientation to save your handstand from falling forward. - Someone really good at a Freestanding HS will be doing both of these movements while holding the HS. You just might not be able to tell bc they’re able to do it at a very micro level. As you get better your corrections will get smaller and smaller so that it won’t even look like you’re moving at all.

My client Geoff has a close relationship with his chair, they go
Wall Reaching My client Geoff has a close relationship with his chair, they go way back... so much so, he has molded his body to its contour. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I like to use the wall to create space/length in the body and to work his t-spine extension and shoulder flexion, etc. as part of his warm-up. • When you reach, reach with your entire body...avoiding alligator🐊 arms. Lock out the elbows, keep the ribs down and when you lean into the wall take your trunk & pelvis together as a unit with your tailbone under. • Leaning into the wall creates automatic internal tension. You can keep your heels down if you want to add your calves to the equation. Alternate reaching up to your end-range and even crawl your fingertips up for that last bit of length to open up the front and extend the back (t-spine). • Geoff is reaching at 3 different overhead vectors, but you can add more, in any direction (Notice the difference between Geoff’s right side & left side?). Hang at your end-range for 3-5 sec and push the wall away with both hands to add more load into the system. Alternate sides and do 5 reps of each vector with each arm. • Your shoulder blades may want to creep up with your reach, but do your best to keep them down. Shoulder flexion coincides with posterior rotation of the scapula (shoulder blade). You can also change your head position. Geoff is looking up at his hand with his reaches, but I also have him look straight ahead/down to work relative flexion of the neck from the bottom up. • The wall is one of my favorite ways to facilitate length, extension, expansion... and to mitigate compression. If you sit often this is a good movement break to sprinkle in your day. The wall is a great tool. It’s free and easy to find. 😀
