Lots of gymnastic work done today... strict muscle ups need some serious work but I’m working on it 💪 the bar muscle up WOD this afternoon was fun... 100 dubs- 10 BMU, 80 dubs- 8 BMU, 60 dubs- 6 BMU, 40 dubs- 4 BMU, 20 dubs- 2 BMU. I did this spicy number yesterday for a #fridayworkout with a fellow coach. My goal is to do this wod as prescribed one day. . . To keep each round under 10 minutes, I gave myself 3 minutes to do as many banded bar muscle ups as I could manage. In the first round I got 10 BMU’s, second round I got 8, third round I got 5. In the 4th round, my hands were toast and ready to tear, so I subbed 30 ring rows instead to keep the stimulus. . . Scaled or RX this workout is definitely tough and can take over 30 minutes!! If you don’t have a strict pull up yet, then a Bar Muscle Up will be more than difficult to accomplish. Development of the latissimus dorsi, trapezius (upper and lower), supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, and subscapularis are important, not just for strength, but also for protection of the rotator cuff muscles and the back. Working on the above exercises will help to strength these muscles and they are particularly important in allowing you to successfully Bar Muscle Up. . .
