But if you don’t take the time to make sure you’re doing it well then you can get in trouble with bad habits over time. - I cover the three main types I see working with clients. - Apical breathing - most common mistake! Chest comes up, neck and shoulder muscles activate to pull the ribs up. This is the least effective type and causes a ton of tightness in the neck and trap area. - Exaggerated belly breathing - once people get the idea that you should use your diaphragm, an easy mistake is to only use that and miss the intercostal muscles in the ribs! ACL Rehab For Sport Performance }} . . ➡️ Every Athlete will have their own timeline when it comes to recovering from a major injury such as an ACL. However, too often we look for “what we’re supposed to look for” when it comes to rehabilitation. . . ▪️Stop checking boxes and don’t forget that the number one way to strengthen post rehab is STRENGTH. Not all forms of rehabilitation are created a basic PT methods will not bridge the gap from injured to sport play. I by no means am a licensed PT. In my experience (over 12,009 hours of billable training sessions) I have seen first hand how the lack of specific strength training can negatively affect the athlete long term. . . ▪️I want to relate post ACL surgery and how it relates to performance and the steps we take to ensure the athlete is ready to go. . . ▪️Non Concrete Post Surgery Timeline: . . MONTHS 3-4: Walking, reestablish basic sprint patterns MONTHS 4-5: Light tempo runs MONTHS 5-6: RETURN TO Basic drills MONTHS 6-7: RETURN TO Sprint warm up prep series MONTHS 7-8: RETURN TO 75% Running MONTHS 9-12: RETURN TO Competition . . ▪️Here with athlete @ryan_weis17 we are almost ready to return to competition. These two drills are used sequential to accomplish the following: . . 1️⃣Reduce swelling and introduce new blood flow from basic sprint prep practice via the use of voodoo bands. . . 2️⃣ Increase strength and muscular endurance on the posterior chain/hips with the hip circle and dimes deadlift. . . 3️⃣ Increase tendon, connective tissue, and quad strength to regain strength in the weaker limb + prevent compensation when performing our speed/prep series. . . ▪️These exercises should be used in the closer to return to competition phase as they are a little harder and a base needs to be formed first.

Sports activities on one leg: - Running🏃🏾‍♂️ - Juking 🏈 - Throwing⚾️🏈 - Kicking ⚽️ - Lay-ups ⛹🏼‍♀️ - Receiving a pass⚽️🏈 - Striking🎾🏸 - The list goes on and on. 🗣If we are spending a large portion of time in our sport on one leg, we should be spending some of our training time in the weight room on one leg as well. You are more susceptible to injuries on one leg. If you’re wondering what all the hype around ‘velocity loss’ and want it explained in a simple way, check out the below post from @justinochoa317⠀ //⠀ "Using VBT to track “velocity loss” during a set is one of the biggest impacts @TrainWithPUSH has had on my coaching & our results at @pacefitacademy . This helps keep athletes safe while still working hard and getting undeniable results.⠀ //⠀ VELOCITY LOSS: This is the difference in velocity between your best (or first) rep of the set & your worst rep of the set. We believe that 20% velocity loss is the cutoff sweet spot for each set your perform on compound lifts. In other words, when you perform a set of 5 Trap Bar Deadlifts like @taaylorrb here, the velocity loss should be around 15-20%. If it’s higher than 20%, we need to either adjust technique or lower the weight. If it’s lower than 15% it may be too easy for that given amount of reps. This particular set was a 5-rep PR for her at a velocity loss of 20% which is a perfect stopping point.⠀ //⠀ In a study comparing lifting to 20% velocity loss vs. 40% velocity loss, the 20% group was able to achieve equal strength gains, better jump performance and more preservation of fast twitch muscle fibers all while performing significantly less reps over an 8-week program (Pareja-Blanco, et al. C I R C U I T - After my shoulder lifting session, I normally finish off with a circuit. This is a huge part of my ‘cut’ process which helps me burn fat & still maintain muscle mass. The circuit training consists of shoulders, cardio & core. - This video shows 1 example of what you can do. I like do a circuit as it mixes all 3 muscle groups (shoulders, core and cardio). - You can mix and match with battle ropes, kettle bell swings & other core exercises. The way to feel fulfilled is to decide who you want to be, and then act in accordance with that person. It’s when you go against who you want to be (and know you can be) that you start to feel off. Lately I have not been doing the things I say I am going to do, let alone doing the things that are in alignment with who I want to be. Today was the first day in about a month that I woke up at 4am and did the things that truly make me feel good about myself. It’s extremely hard to start - you are going to need tremendous will power. But once you get started, and continue acting in accordance with the greatest you, you will quickly gain momentum and feel like you are making progress and moving towards fulfillment once again. Physical literacy is the teaching the body how to move and just like it takes knowing the alphabet before being able to read a paragraph - the same thing applies to training. You can’t expect someone to push a prowler efficiently if they don’t know how to run and transfer force from one side to another. Do you have access to heavy chains in your gym? If so, try to utilize them when you perform weighted exercises. I tried these dips out yesterday with a weight belt and a heavy chain around my neck. The chain flexes my trunk so that my cervical and thoracic extensors have to work more. Overall distributing the weight throughout my body made this a lot more of a challenge. Give it a try if you can! • • • Full workout: 1. Handstand holds 10x20-30 seconds/40 seconds off 2. Flat bench 10x3 (minimal rest) 3. Weighted dips 5x6-8 4. Maltese flys 5x10-12 5. 3 min abs round x2
