Is it a new boat or the same boat? ⋒ ⠀⠀⠀ This is an old thought experiment known as the Ship of Theseus, but it's interesting to consider as we ponder rebuilding our lives. ⠀⠀⠀ Often, over many years we have built a footprint here on earth that doesn't entirely reflect who we are or where we want to be. But this thought experiment brings me comfort. I’m often asked what the hardest part of launching a podcast is - and the honest answer is giving myself permission. Permission to have something to say. Permission to be myself. Permission to fail. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Giving ourselves permission to be ‘all in’ is one of our biggest things challenges in life because we expose ourselves to vulnerability and fear. Fear of looking foolish. Of being judged. Of failing. Quite frankly, it’s terrifying. ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ But the irony is that holding back is a type of failure. It’s the failure to be brave. To move beyond comfort and to take a chance. And only when we give ourselves permission to fail do we give ourselves permission to step into who we’re capable of becoming. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Imagine if we could redefine success away from money and careers, and towards bravery and facing fears? Surface questions are event based questions - the wheres, whats, whens and hows of life. ♡ ⠀⠀⠀ ✨ Eg: What have you been up to? What did you do next? Where did you study? ✨ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ While these questions have an important role in daily life, they limit our chances of connecting with others deeply when we fail to ask more meaningful questions. ⠀⠀⠀ Such as: ✨ How do you feel now that that’s happened? Are you concerned about the implications? You’ve been friends for many years, how has time altered that friendship? ✨ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ Try this at home: * Sit with a friend + share the questions below. * Set a timer for 2 minutes. Have a conversation where one of you asks only surface questions about a single topic. * Swap roles. * Set your timer again, revisit the same topic but ask deeper questions. It will be harder, and you’ll probably have to think before asking questions. How is the first Monday of Autumn going for you? Yesterday was the Autumn Equinox when the sun crosses the earth’s equator from north to south and the new season starts. I felt the change especially as there was torrential rain in London. But our bodies are also attuned to the change in season without us realising it and react to the drop in temperature, change in light and shortening days. We crave nurturing foods and a slowing of pace and it’s when we don’t listen to our body’s innate needs that we get unbalanced and start suffering from low mood, tiredness, unfulfilling sleep and the seasonal coughs and colds. So be kind to yourself and look to nature for inspiration. The trees, the garden, the birds, and even the frantic squirrels in the park are all preparing for change. We can do the same and start to live seasonally rather than for the 24/7. 🍂 My friend @paula313131 has just written a great blog about all this and she reverses our concept of ‘mind, body, soul’ and starts with the soul. Paula and I will be exploring this even more in our next workshop on Oct 6th so join us and come away with your own plan of action. Link in bio.

Today the All Being Well podcast is 3 months old! I truly didn’t think anybody would listen so I’m thrilled, humbled and a little bit in awe that so many people have. Here are some things I’ve learnt along the way: ⠀⠀⠀⠀ - 10 minutes of mindfulness meditation for 7 days is proven to improve wellbeing - Work-Life balance is a myth 💁🏻‍♀️ - But centring your work around your values brings more purpose + passion to your day - Aboriginal Australians consider earth within their expansive definition of wellbeing 🌾 - Some companies falsely market themselves as ‘green’ (so read + research product labels!)🌿 - There are hormone disrupters in synthetic fragrances (and they particularly impact men and sperm levels👨🏻) - At current rates, there’ll be more plastic in the sea than fish by 2050🥤 - But the circular economy considers the whole lifecycle (and recycle) of our ‘stuff’ before it’s produced. Yes please! ♻️ - An ecosexual is an actual thing (and if you connect physically with nature you’re one too) 👀 - Your mum will always be your biggest fan ⠀⠀⠀⠀ Thanks to everybody for listening from the bottom of my heart. ♡ #allbeingwell

Happiness is a complex state. For a long time I bought into the illusion that I can always ‘be’ happy. That when I wasn’t happy something was rather wrong. But the truth is that sadness is an important part of life. Its a common part of life. And it’s one of our greatest teaches. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ Which is why at All Being Well we focus on enhancing our wellbeing. Enhanced wellbeing helps us to realise our potential, cope with the normal stresses of life, and make a contribution to our community. As multi-dimensional human beings, we can aim for that while sometimes being happy and sometimes being sad. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ Is this something you’ve experienced in your life too? And nope, it’s not easy hearing the sound of your voice on a podcast... 🙉 But it is getting easier. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ Because I’m trying to show up as myself - vulnerable, honest, daring - and let myself be really seen as we explore wellbeing. The real kind. The kind that doesn’t focus on how we look but how we feel. ✨ Where we have that feeling of radical self-acceptance and contentment in the deepest part of ourselves, while acknowledging that we’re imperfect (but trying our very best). ⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sometimes I feel it. And sometimes I don’t. I’m on a journey to increase the number of days when I feel it, interviewing leaders in the wellbeing industry about their own practices, habits and advice.
