I change up the ingredients depending on what I have on hand but tonight’s soup was made up of potatoes, celery, carrots, olive oil, cauliflower, coconut milk, homemade chicken broth, salt, pepper, garlic powder, thyme, rosemary, hot sauce, and nutritional yeast. Real Talk: No matter what weight I’ve been at I have hated my body🙁 I’m talking, stomach sick, disgusted, embarrassed and ashamed type loathing. I felt I had to be on restrictive diets of 1200 calories, kill myself in workouts even when I knew I needed to rest. I’ve been down to 125# AFTER having kids. I’ve had a 6 pack, been able to do pull ups, push ups, Been able to run 8min miles. Still after all of these, I’ve hated how I looked. I’m a trainer I need to be lean and toned or who will listen to me. Never pleased or satisfied. Over the summer I had some severe injuries and health issues that have caused me to reevaluate my relationship with my body and with food. I’ve spent years punishing myself by restricting or overtraining. If I “cheated” or missed a workout I was consumed by guilt and shame. I knew there had to be another way. Slowly I’ve been changing my personal training business to focus on more #habitbasedcoaching rather then fast weight loss. It’s about lasting change and living in #foodfreedom I recently went through my first round of #whole30 and it’s changed my life!!! #nojoke Confirming what I was feeling. And after years of calorie counting, macro counting, portion containers I’ve had it. It has taken its toll on me physically and mentally. I’m currently tens pounds over my “comfortable” weight (first pic) and some days I’m tempted to restrict again in order to look like the second pic. However, I’m learning for the first time how to trust my body and listen to its cues. Eating to fuel my body and enjoying food. Focusing on overall health!! I eat a Whole30 #paleodiet and I #liftheavy 4x a week and #hiit train 3x. More importantly I’m feeling better than I have in years!!! Sear your meat before you add it to the slow cooker to get that nice ‘bark’ (google ‘meat bark’). Order the cookbook—>⠀ https://amzn.to/2zEdMjN (click link in profile).⠀ __⠀ Slow Cooker Beef Shawarma Roast (Low-Carb, Paleo, Whole30)⠀ 🔹Ingredients⠀ 2-3 lbs beef roast (I used chuck) trimmed of fat⠀ 1 small onion, sliced⠀ 3 garlic cloves, minced⠀ 1/4 cup beef or bone broth⠀ 3 tbsp white vinegar⠀ 3 tbsp lemon juice⠀ 2 tbsp evoo⠀ 1 tbsp water⠀ Dry seasonings:⠀ 2 tsp allspice⠀ 1 tsp nutmeg⠀ 1 tsp cardamom⠀ 1 tsp garlic powder⠀ 1/2 tsp salt (I use 1 tsp)⠀ 1/2 tsp pepper⠀ 1/4 tsp cinnamon⠀ 1/4 cup fresh parsley⠀ 1 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil (optional, for searing)⠀ 🔸Instructions⠀ Add onion & garlic to the slow cooker. Add roast. In a small bowl, mix together the remaining ingredients & pour over food in slow cooker. Cook high 4-5 hours, low 8-9. How To Salt Bake a Whole Fish 🐟+🧂=🤤 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is one of my favorite things to cook for the holiday table - it’s elegant, sustainable, easy to make and honestly… it’s a fool-proof way to make sure your fish is flavorful and succulent! Here’s how to do it ⤵️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🔹Get a sustainable whole fish (gutted) from your local market (salmon or striped bass is a great option) 🔹Stuff it with your favorite aromatics (rosemary, thyme, lemon, lime) 🔹Cover it in your salt mixture (use 2 egg whites per cup of kosher salt and mix until it looks like wet sand) 📌 NOTE The size of your fish will determine how much salt mixture you need. Last reintroduction day! What out found out: I have a quick reaction to corn and soy, but not terrible. Wheat destroys me for days. Cheese is not much better. And having sugar again? I feel like absolute garbage and feeling like I gained back 20 lb! So I'll do a modified keto diet I think after the holidays. I'd like to be able to use some natural sugars, like coconut and honey. It's been super hard on me to cook every night, and I will be taking on huge roles for projects next semester, so having a day once in a while without thinking of carbs or ingredients will help. #whole30#done

Getting dinner ready. This is the beginnings of a whole30 compliant Shepherd's P
Getting dinner ready. This is the beginnings of a whole30 compliant Shepherd's Pie with a couple twists. I added 1/2 lb of thick cut sugar free cherrywood smoked bacon and 1/2 lb of smoked pork butt to the 1 lb of grass fed ground beef. Drain off fat. Add 1 cup EACH of diced carrot, celery, onion. Add salt, pepper, rosemary and paprika to taste. I use about a teaspoon of each, but a bit more salt. Toss in a cup or 2 of quartered brussel sprouts and a cup of homemade chicken bone broth (it's what I had on hand). Boil up 3 lb of diced potatoes in water untim tender. Drain. Add 1 tsp thyme oil (thyme sprigs in olive oil eated & cooled) and 2 tbs ghee and 1 cup of full fat coconut milk from the can. Mash and put the meat veggie mixture into a roasting pan 9 x 13" and top with mashed potatoes. Bake in oven 350f for 30 minutes or until potatoes are brown crusted. #whole30#paleo#glutenfree#shepardspie#cozywintermeal

Serves: 2 Ingredients: - 1 lb. medium shrimp, peeled & deveined - 1 teaspoon oil - ½ cup water, divided - ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce - 2 tablespoons honey (or sugar or choice) - 1 clove garlic, minced - 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional) - ½ teaspoon ground ginger - 1 tablespoon cornstarch - 1 cup blanched broccoli florets - Steamed white rice or noodles, for serving Instructions: - Heat a large skillet medium high heat. Add oil & shrimp and cook for 2-3 minutes per side or until pink. - Remove shrimp from pan & add ¼ cup water, soy sauce, honey, garlic, sesame oil, & ginger. Whisk to combine. Bring mixture to a boil. - In a small bowl whisk together cornstarch & remaning1/4 cup water. - Slowly whisk in the cornstarch mixture into the saucepan & simmer for 3-4 minutes or until thick. - Return shrimp to pan along with 1 cup of blanched broccoli and coat evenly with sauce. - Serve rice, noodles or a salad. This isn’t necessarily a weight loss comparison, although there is obviously a substantial change in that number. This is what beginning to emphasize self-care and health can look like externally. Last December my hair fell out in clumps. My skin broke out in acne I hadn’t seen since 8th grade. I was masking sadness in sugar and alcohol. The Whole30 can’t fix everything, but it was the best teacher for myself - for someone who knew nothing about nourishing their body. I’m 100% doing a Whole30 in January, and I’m thinking of starting a FREE Facebook group for those who want to join and just be there for each other and share amazing recipes and complain about how much we miss margaritas, would anyone want to be in on that ish? The Whole30 is completely free and yes it’s f%#kin hard but it’s a challenge that does more for your body than any pricey facial, bogus shake scheme, or miracle diet pills. I’m getting excited and it’s my 6th time so for anyone who’s thinking about it, I promise it’s possible. ✨💓

This broccoli cauliflower rice with pomegranates and fresh mint leaves 🍃 is a gorgeous side dish for the holidays and it tastes AH-mazing cold or hot! 🍴It doesn't get any easier than this! Most supermarkets have freshly riced cauliflower and riced broccoli already prepped for you! Sauté with a good EVOO, (I am in love with the garlic flavored EVOO from Trader Joe’s 😋) S&P, and garlic powder. Seared duck breast with salad, mashed sweet potatoes and purple cauliflower sauteed in duck fat. Pretty easy meal to prepare. Duck breast with salt and pepper cooked in a cast iron skillet on medium from cold. Started skin down to render the fat and crisp the skin. Flipped it halfway and stuck a temp probe and let it get to 125°F. Take out and rested it for 5 min. Sauteed the cauliflower in the remaining duck fat and then sliced and plated. Nuked some Trader Joe's frozen sweet potato mash to finish it up. This meal cost under $8 to make, probably pay over $15 in a restaurant. #lunchideas#duckbreastsalad#nothard#cookingonthefly

So what we have for you today are these subtlety sweet four ingredient macaroons! Here is the #MiniRecipe for you from our friends at @btrvrydy in Barrington! • Ingredients: 14 oz bag sweetened coconut flakes 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips 2/3 cup chopped lightly salted almonds 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk 1 tsp almond extract Preheat oven to 325 Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl, or stand mixer with paddle attachment on low. Use a cookie scoop to portion cookies out on a parchment lined baking sheet. Bake 20-30 minutes, or until golden around the edges and on top. Let cool completely on sheet pan. • Enjoy!

packing in all the veggies now bc i’ll be honest, we are heading to LA on saturday and there’s gonna be a lot of 🍣 🍪 🍩 🍷 🍸 happening over the next week! here’s how to make to make crispy af asparagus, bc soggy is just no bueno!you need to wash it, trim the stems, and make sure it’s fully DRY before adding oil and seasonings! preheat oven to 375. line a baking sheet with parchment paper. line up the asparagus, and spray with @chosenfoods avocado oil, season with @primalpalate new bae seasoning (or what ever you like), and place in oven for 13-15 min, flipping once halfway through. that’s it! happy thursday, friends! #kalejunkie

We’re heading out to a holiday dinner tonight so I’m throwing it back to this recipe from earlier in the year. These creamy cauliflower cakes are so darn good annnd they look super fancy. I love topping them with salmon burgers or garlicky shrimp. Some day I’ll actually get this up on the blog too! 🤦‍♀️ ✨I use the Alfredo sauce from the @therealfoodrds dairy-free spaghetti squash Chicken Alfredo. Link in bio! The rest of the creamy cauliflower recipe is below. ⬇️ • Make Alfredo sauce mentioned above (link in bio). To make you will need to soak cashews in boiling water for 30 minutes. I let them soak while I was making the rest of the recipe below • -Melt 2 tbsp ghee in a large frying pan • -Add in 1/2 cup diced onions (I use frozen ones) and sauté until translucent • -Add 8 Cups frozen riced cauliflower to pan and cook to desired consistency (I let mine go low and slow while I was waiting for my cashews to soak) • -Add in Alfredo sauce, stir and cook for a few minutes longer on low heat, season with salt and pepper to taste, and put rice into a 4” biscuit cutter to form circle or use a metal cookie cutter to make fun shapes for kids!

“It’s not a short term diet. It’s a long term lifestyle change.” • I’m on the road again! Avoiding fast food and finding real food while traveling is always a fun challenge for me. For the flight, I packed snacks (almonds, RX bar, and a banana... I always avoid plane food) and I do my research before arriving to our destination to find restaurants that have food Tyler and I will both like. • Last night’s dinner was at Townhouse in Birmingham, MI. It was amazing! Tyler got their award winning burger accompanied with the most delicious truffle fries and rosemary garlic aioli (I plan to recreate this at home 😍). I ordered the trout, probably the best tasting thing I’ve had in a while. It looked and tasted like salmon... only better. It came with fingerling potatoes, green beans, marcona almonds, brown butter, and charred lemon. I loved how on the menu they let you know which meals are gluten free, vegan, and vegetarian. They also have the option of a topless or naked burger (I wish more restaurants would do this!!!). If you ever find yourself in the Detroit area, eating at Townhouse is a must! • I was also able to get a run in this morning at the hotel gym and have my next eating spots ready for when we arrive to Cleveland tonight.
