Samuel ‘Sambo’ Anderson was one of Pres. George Washington’s slaves. He purchased Uncle Sambo in or around 1750. He would take Sam to Mt. Vernon where he taught him to be a craftsman. While on the plantation Samuel married another slave named Agnes. They would have six children. He would work to support his children even though he could not live with them. He sold honey, beeswax, hunt birds and hogs between 1789-1797. After General Washington’s death Anderson would be freed two years later. Agnes and the children would remain in bondage as they were part of the Custis property. Anderson makes bed into a little house near a creek and not far from Mt. Vernon. He would work hard to purchase some of family. Anderson and his grandson William along with other emancipated slaves helped to build the Washington Tomb on Mount Vernon. Uncle Sambo would stay near Mount Vernon til his dark this Feb. 20, 1845. It is believed he was at or pretty close to 100 years old at the time of his death.

Since I was a teen I have been making money moves and pushing boundaries. Never let anyone stand in the way of your success or make you feel you are not good enough. They have no right to judge you cos they did not create you. Pushing more boundaries daily, that’s the goal. #bookingagent#africanroyalty#bridgingthegap#femaledj#afrozons#ifyouknowyouknow

V O G U E A F R I C A vibes // When I imagined #turning30, I always felt a bit nervous. Would I have ticked all the boxes society expected of me? Once at 30, I’m proud to say that No, I did not do what was expected of me. I reimagined everything, the whole damn paradigm, and started to create a new life for myself. A glorious life, that only I and the #goddess in me answered to. Of course, this new phase of my life was ushered in style. THE GREATNESS GALA was part 2 of the #celebrations, an #AFRICANROYALTY event of my tribe who answered the call. How stunning is this #rednumber ? 😆- i think lo ghel 💃🏾 inspired the look. Quite worthy of a #womancrushwednesday shoutout, ne? Till today, poetic words from one of the guest speakers at the @greatness_gala keep ringing: “Lesi isikhathi. Lesi isikhathi. Sabela ubizo, sabela ubizo” (This is the time. This is the time. Answer the calling. Answer your calling) This is my 30’s #positiveaffirmation. the beat resounding in my soul. my #hopeforhumanity

💡Warrior Wednesday 1✨West African person who is a very wise leader in government and military leader who forcefully took/taken the (seat of power of a king or queen) of the Songhai empire (1493) and,  in a series of victorious captures, greatly expanded the empire and strengthened it. He was permanently ended by his son, Askia , in 1528.After the death of Sonni Ali, the ruler who had the Songhai empire from 1464 to 1492, Muhammad tried, as early as February 1493, to pull power from Sonni Ali's son Sonni Baru, who had been elected by honor on January 21.  In the Fight of Anfao on April 12, 1493, Muhammad's forces, though inferior in number, were successful in a battle.  Traditional religions mixed with a tiny bit of the difficult to understand Songhai Islam of the Sonnis gave way to an Islamic state whose civil code was the  Qura n and whose official writing was Arabic. After winning  the enemy, Muhammad assumed the title of Askia (or Askiya), it is said the daughters of the fallen Sonnis who said of him a si tya, or "he will not be." The name Askia became the name of the period of time with the same powerful family rulers that he founded and the name of its leaders. While Sonni Ali had been a warrior, Muhammad was above all a person who is a very wise leader in government.  He set up a management of the areas won by his person or thing that came before.  He began by dividing Songhai into areas of a country and placed each under a governor.  A standing army and a fleet of war were organized under the command of a general and a high-ranking navy officer.  More than that, Muhammad created the positions of director of finance, justice, interior, rules of conduct, farming,  waters and forests, and of "tribes of the white race" (Moors and Tuaregs who at that time were people controlled by, and loyal to, a powerful person of  the Songhai and furnished them with large groups of dromedary-mounted troops.👇🏾

🌕Warrior Wednesday 2💡When Sonni Ali rose/climbed up the Songhai seat of power of a king or queen about 1464,  the kingdom contained/made up only a small area in the upper Niger valley around its capital,  the rich trading city of Gao. Although the Songhai people had managed to throw off the rule of the Mali Empire,  they also hoped to get land-based benefits, like other West African peoples, from the disintegration of Mali.  Sonni Ali saw an excellent opportunity to oblige in 1468, when Muslim leaders of the city of Timbuktu (Graveouctou), before now one of the chief cities in the empire of Mali, asked his aid in permanently ending the Tuareg, the wandering desert Berbers  who had won by force, the city when Mali control lowered in number. After Sonni Ali won Timbuktu and drove out the Tuareg,  he stole and left behind almost nothing, the city and murdered many of its residents, probably in revenge for something bad that was done for the Muslim leader's failure  to provide him with promised transport across the Niger River. Sonni Ali's bag of Timbuktu established his reputation in the history of the Sudan as a cruel and unpredictable very mean ruler,  first one. The 16th-century Muslim Sudanese history expert in the  story Abd ar-Raḥman as-Sadi, in the historical  chronicle Tarʾīkh as-Sūdāny "History of the Sudan", related more than two, but not a lot of events of Sonni Ali's summary executions of friend and enemy alike.  The dislike of Muslim educated people toward Sonni Ali may be attributed in part to what they thought of as his rather unusual participation in a custom/following rules of Islam.  He based on what's seen or what seems obvious combined the performance of Muslim ceremonies with those of the usual Songhai religion.👇🏾

Coronation of Emperor Bokassa I of Central Africa, on December 4, 1977.

Coronation of Emperor Bokassa I of Central Africa, on December 4, 1977. Jean-Bédel Bokassa (1921 – 1996), was the ruler of the Central African Republic and its successor state, the Central African Empire, from his coup d'état in 1966 until overthrown in a subsequent coup (supported by France) in 1979. Of this period, he served almost 11 years as president. For almost 3 years he reigned as self-proclaimed Emperor of Central Africa, though the country was still a de facto military dictatorship. Bokassa's imperial title did not achieve international diplomatic recognition. Modeling himself as Napoleon Bonaparte, his lavish coronation is rumored to have cost 20 million US dollars – 1/3 of the annual budget and foreign aid of the Empire. Bedel Bokassa ridiculed Africa and especially his country the Central African Republic in the eyes of the world with his rude coronation of emperor budgetivore in Bangui, while his people languished in indescribable misery. ____________________ 📸 Photo credit to Richard Melloul Productions / Sygma via Getty Images @gettyimages / respective copyright owner(s). #aroyalmoment#🇨🇫#centralafricanrepublic#emperorbokassa#bokassa#africa#africanroyalty#африка#центральнаяафриканскаяреспублика#coronation
