Having the ability to plan out “artistic” shots on a run-n-gun documentary shoot is difficult. It’s something I’m working hard to intentionally execute on current and future projects. This was the one shot I had planned out from my short doc on climber @nathaniel.coleman - I’ll be channeling this mentality moving forward at a much higher frequency.. the results speak for themselves.
Been about 7 months since I was running around Europe shooting this film on @prana ambassador @nathaniel.coleman and man it’s been hard to wait on releasing this piece.. shoutout to @benweiland for all your help on this one. Couldn’t have done it without you! And to @juliancisneros for always being an awesome collaborator and composing cues that truly help bring my projects to life. Really proud of how this piece turned out... and of course to my fellow editing grinder @davec9k for the color - you killed it. Scope the full film via the link in my bio!
People come and go in life, we’re not guaranteed today or tomorrow. Time can pull us apart and tragedy can bring us back together. Life is rarely predictable, but one constant that I can always lean on is your steadfast, undeterred, overflowing love for God and for your family. Thank you for being an example of how a man should be, how a man who fears God should live. Relentlessly in pursuit of Him, the impact you’ve had on all our lives is immeasurable. Love you! Happy Birthday Dad
In honor of winter, and Christmas and surfing.. here’s a lil peak at @benweiland feature surf doc I got to edit - now on iTunes/amazon and grandma Betty’s house. It’s about finding tropical barrels along the equator ft. A lot of talented musicians. We edited this in a little over two weeks so hopeful you all don’t think it sucks. @surfer_magazine
When @_ryanhill_ told me he was going on a trip to Chile to shoot local shredders @austin.neumann & @braden.joness I told him I’d buy a ticket that night and meet them. I gotta say it ended up being one of my favorite trips/films I shot this year. Thanks for having me along boys, couldn’t have asked for a better crew to roam the coast searching for Chilean lefts with! Scope the feature and full film on @surfline !! Link in bio 🏄 🎥
Making it as a freelancer starts with sacrifice. I’ve done quite a few personal projects over the last year, spending thousands of my own dollars in hopes that it would bare monetary fruit... this video is one of those projects. It’s a draft. I never got to finish it because the 4TB hard drive it was on got wiped (long story). So that, along with everything I’ve shot since June is gone. I made it on spec. Taking on something I hadn’t much experience in (shooting models/clothes etc) and trying my hand at it... the brand was stoked but didn’t want to pay for it.. which happens. About $700 and tens of hours scheming ideas, picking up gear, collaborating with the photographer, and nada. • The point is, “making it” rarely just happens. It takes sacrifice, hard work, thick skin and a hunger to improve your craft at every opportunity. You don’t always get paid what you’re worth and that’s okay. A moto I sort of have come to live by is that most people over estimate what they can get done in 3 years, but grossly underestimate what they can do in 10. Success doesn’t happen overnight. No matter what profession your in, success comes with time... so stop complaining if you’re not reaching your goals 3 years or even 5 years down the line. If you got the drive/talent, you can get there - just give it time. 📸: @jonmelson Models: @marisamcglynn@braxtondsmith Camera & Lenses thanks to @thecameradivision

“It’ll be fine.” I remember @_ryanhill_ saying half joking before I nervously launched the drone up in what had to be some of the most intense wind gusts I’d ever experienced. Long story short, the drone survived and the outcome was capturing one of the best clips I’d ever shot... See the full clip in motion on my Vimeo page 🤘🏽🐎
