This water treatment system, in the native village of Huacaria, in the Manu Biosphere Reserve, Peru, uses portable geomembrane tanks, and natural resources (rock and sand) from the surrounding rivers and streams to remove 99.99% of the bacteria, viruses and cysts from the water supply. #cleanwater#slowsandfiltration#sustainableliving#rainforest#manubiospherereserve#peru#amazonrainforest#naturalsolutions#matsigenka#filtrolentoenarena#agualimpia#reservadebiosferadelmanu#WASHPERU#tarpinnovators

It was an honor for Rainforest Flow to meet with Peru's Vice Minister of the Environment, Lucía Ruíz Ostoic, in charge of Strategic Development of Natural Resources. A productive meeting filled with possibility to help more people living in remote indigenous territories have access to WASH (water- sanitation- health) programming. #cleanwater#waterresilence#sustainability#washperu#sanitationservices#ecofriendlysanitation#rainforestflow#healthyindigenouscultures#manubiosphereperu#peru

The water brought health and hope to indigenous children and families who were all but forgotten by Peruvian social services. The Matsigenka people in our project villages are now leaders in demonstrating what is possible when they become empowered to work together as a community to improve their health and well being. Now that they have achieved success; they naturally want to share this sustainable WASH model with social services and other tribe leaders and villages throughout the Amazon Rainforest. They are doing this through Rainforest Flow's global teaching- training and research center in the Manu Biosphere Reserve, Peru. #sustainablesolutions#cleanwater#rainwaterharvesting#slowsandfiltration#sustainability#climatechange#investinindigenouspeople#matsigenka#healthychildren#rainforests#peruvianamazon#geomembranetanks#manubiospherereserve#oneglobaltribe#casadelosninosindigenas#filtrolentoenarena#aguadelluvia#aguasegura

Rainwater harvesting is a viable source of clean water for native cultures in lowland tropical rainforest regions. The systems are cost effective, low tech and sustainable. Key factors necessary are a quality roof/ plumbing supplies, a natural filter, and a reservoir size that can handle supply in demand in the dry season. Rainforest Flow piloted a rainwater harvesting system in our project village of Yomybato, inside of the magnificent Manu National Park, Peru. This system will work together with their existing gravity flow water system (built in 2012) and supply the people with additional water supply in the dry season. #cleanwater#slowsandfiltration#carbonfilter#rainwater#sustainablesolutions#biodiversity#sustainabledevelopmentperu#investintheamazon#bladdertank#geomembranetanks #tarpinnovatores#rainwaterharvesting#aguadelluvia filtrolentoenarena #aguasegura

The indigenous tribes of the Amazon rainforest have little use for the outside world. Until Rainforest Flow came along, their encounters resulted in deforestation, development and distrust. For more than a decade, Rainforest Flow has been bringing clean, safe drinking water and basic hygiene to villages where death and disease from waterborne illness had been rampant. We also brought a healthy respect for their way of life. By teaching them how to build and maintain simple, natural filtration systems, we've empowered them to become stewards of their own destiny. Where there once was death, there is now hope for a future they can control themselves. Make an Impact. Help to bring life-giving services to more people. Go to our profile link to Give Water Now. This is Berta. She was born in an isolated village deep within the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest. As a child, Berta was sent off to the village of Huacaria with the hope of a better life. It wasn’t always easy, but she had food, clothing and shelter, and learned about daily hygiene from our health educator while in primary school. Berta grew up right before our eyes, and now has children of her own. Like every parent, she wants their lives to be better than hers has been, and thanks to easy access to clean, safe water, it already is. At Rainforest Flow, we’ve been bringing simple, natural filtration systems and basic hygiene practices to the indigenous people of the rainforest for more than a decade, and while the work is challenging, the results are amazing. Disease and death from waterborne contaminants are becoming a thing of the past. And by empowering the tribes to maintain these systems, they also maintain their dignity and self-reliance, and pass it down to the next generation. Help bring life-giving services to more people.
