If at first you donβt succeed... this is a replica of an Early Bronze Age votive axe. The original is on the left and is a local find, unstratified but gorgeous. Itβs a has a max length of 5cm and cast by primitive lost wax method, using bees wax, bronze and bone tools, mud and poo. Just little more polishing to go. #bronzeaxe#bronzeage#earlybronzeage#primitivelostwax#votiveaxe#axeporn#axejunkies#bronzecasting#primitivebronzecasting#prehistoric_bronze#prehistoricbronze#prehistoricbronzecasting#bronzecastingworkshop#primitivebronzecastingworkshop

Three new blades fresh from the moulds. A couple of new ones for upcoming courses and events and an old favourite. From left to right we have... an Early Bronze Age dagger based on one of the Bush Barrow daggers. In The middle is a Late Bronze Age (Urnfield/early Hallstatt) knife. On the right is a Late Bronze Age knife based on an example found at lake Isea Italy. Guess itβs time to start cleaning them π

Started work crushing rocks to begin extracting the Cassiterite. I think this might take longer than Iβd thought πππ #experimentalarchaeology#bronzeage#primitivesmelting#cassiterite#oresmelting#learnbydoing

Managed to get down to Cornwall to visit a geologist friend a couple of weeks back. Brought this little lot back with me. So a pile of rocks you may think... but no itβs not just any old rock... itβs Cornish tin ore πππ It will a bit of processing to get the Cassiterite out, then itβs tin smelting here we come πππ #bronzeagereenactment#prehistoricbronze#primitivesmelting#cassiterite#experimentalarchaeology#bronzeage

OK so Iβve been deliberately absent from social media for awhile and would like to apologize for not responding to comments/queries. Mostly itβs been a time of getting things cleaned and into storage for winter, although I have managed to catch up on a few projects, build a mezzanine in the workshop and work on a few commissions (which need to be kept quiet this time of yearπ) Not to mention having friends over to do a bit of primitive lost wax casting and running the last workshop of the year. Oh! and getting a few things made for @studio_ninety Did I mention setting up some 2019 dates on EventBrite πππ Wishing Solstice Blessings and Joy of the Season to One and Allπβ€οΈπ

Resharpened the Early Bronze Age flat axe Iβve been testing. Quite difficult to shave a piece if reindeer hide with an axehead and film at the same time πππ But I hope you get the idea. Also answers a question Iβm often asked... βhow sharp can you get bronze?β #bronzeagetools#axejunkies#experimentalarchaeology#bronzeaxe#bronzeage#bronzeagereenactment#livinghistory#bronzeagelivinghistory
