Nate Durham (@nate.durham) — Change the world. Dream on.
His soul swooned slowly as he heard the snow falling faintly through the universe and faintly falling, like the descent of their last end, upon all the living and the dead. -James Joyce Given the significance of this date, I would like to remind everyone to spread love, not hate, and to make the world a better place.
This needs to stop. This picture was taken less than a mile from the site of the horrific shooting yesterday. (We were trying to find Annie Dillard's childhood home). This cycle of hate cannot keep happening. And I think we are all responsible. Not being a bigot is not enough, saying 'well, I'm not a racist' isn't helping. And I think a lot of this stems from behavior people don't think is contributing, but it is. We need to stop supporting people who spread hate, even if you otherwise agree with their policies. Stopping hate is more important than any other issue, and there are always others who do not hate. We need to start adressing the root cause of hate, ignorance, by creating inclusive communities that create cultural understandings and interpersonal connections. It's harder to hate someone if they are your friend. We need to start disrupting disinformation before it corrupts more. There is no 'harmless crazy', everyone has followers and false stories can spread. We need to start teaching how to identify fake news in schools, and to adults as well. #spreadlovenothate#squirrelhill
