When it’s a sunny February day with no cars in sight choking Bucharest’s sidewal
When it’s a sunny February day with no cars in sight choking Bucharest’s sidewalks, you know you’ve won the lottery 😀. Ever since I was a high school student passing by this building every day - one of my favorite in Bucharest to epitomize Art Deco heritage in Bucharest - I’ve rarely seen it this unobstructed. It’s usually busy with people coming and going, cars parked all over and at one point in time, crowded with people waiting for their visas from the U.S. Embassy right across the street (I was one of them). The U.S. Embassy changed location since, but this stunner remains. . Built in the 30s during the flourishing interwar period as homage to the municipal officers who died in World War I, the building now hosts ARCUB @arcub.bucuresti, short for Arts and Culture Bucharest, one of the most active cultural centers in the capital, alongside its sister venue in the Old Town. . For similar Art Deco architecture in Bucharest, follow @artdecobucharest and their #BMADproject initiative. . #Bucharest#ARTCUB#Romania#ArtDeco#ArtDecoBucharest

Have you made your way down to @muzeuldeartarecenta yet? If not, why not tomorrow? Or Monday even, when MARe is in fact open. . The first private museum to open since 1910, The Museum of Recent Art reminded me what a great addition this is for Bucharest, open since October. Yes, you should visit for its fantastic selection of communist-era Romanian modern art on display, but you should also visit for the modern, minimalist space within, a building especially designed for this museum, which l’ll show in a future post. You should visit for its quirky shop that sells Ro design items & books you’d actually want to buy, and visit for the amazing, dedicated people that run this place, that always welcome you with a smile and hug. And last, but certainly not least, visit for its temporary exhibits featuring international artists. Such as this week’s @martin_creed opening vernissage, and many more special exhibits and events to come. Conclusion being ... if you’re an art lover, don’t miss this one! - @nicolaecomanescu on display here. . #Bucharest#Romania#MARe#muzeuldeartarecenta#modernart#museumsoftheworld

So happy to see more and more restaurants in Romania embrace farm-to-table and celebrate Romanian cuisine and local ingredients in a new, modern way. And @bistroateneu, the latest venue to open by Le Manoir Group @comtesse_du_barry_romania , certainly raises the bar even higher. “Modern Romanian Cuisine. Seasonal Menu. Local produce with a twist” is their motto. . It’s not just the food, but also the people that make up this project. Chef Alexandru Dumitru @alexandru_dumi, winner of @gaultmillauromania Terroir Award 2018 for his time at @atradoftana as Head Chef, sources from local producers. . There are many wow venues at the moment in Bucharest, but Bistro Ateneu is one of the very few that provides a truly intimate, bistro experience I often long for in a dinner. The lighting is just right, the music is not too overpowering and its people are authentic, without trying too hard. There is also an envy-inducing cellar downstairs and Romanian art gracing the walls. . It’s the little details that make a difference, and the best location there is – overlooking the Romanian Athenaeum. . #Bucharest#BistroAteneu#Romania#Romaniancuisine

I’ve been to many wineries around the world, but none where I would feel “at ease” for more than two hours, or truly relax as if I’m right at home. But then, that’s the beauty of ventures that remain boutique, customized for a select group of people with similar interests, not to the masses. That’s why last weekend’s Unplugged Wine Tasting @cramabauer was special. A refined three-course menu with dessert was served onto a welcoming, long table alongside what felt as mostly friends, prepared by the hosts themselves - Oliver and Raluca - with an utmost attention to detail and using the best local products the region of Drăgășani can provide. . Each bottle with a signature taste of its own. It would be hard to pinpoint a favorite, but as far as the story behind it goes, the white sparkling J.O.H.A.N.N.A. made out of the traditional Fetească Regală variety (from 2013) came out on top. Dedicated to Oliver’s then centenarian great aunt and grandmother Johanna who supported all his endeavors, this wine is as symbolic as is exceptional. . Winemaker for Prince Stirbey @galerie_stirbey since 2004, he opened his own Crama Bauer in 2012. Oliver’s story of spotting the potential of Romanian wine upon his arrival in Romania in 2003, versus his native Germany where he grew up into a family with winemaking tradition, is inspiring to say the least. A testament of Romania’s local grape varieties and the greatness they can achieve in Drăgășani’s fertile lands. Just one of the reasons why I’ll be going back. . #Dragasani#Romania#winecountry#CramaBauer

Up the hill, down by the walnut tree ... I’ve heard about the setting of Drăgășani’s Bauer Winery @cramabauer so often, located in one of Romania’s most fertile wine regions, that I couldn’t wait to see it for myself. Even if my first visit was during winter. It was just as magical, with a blanket of fresh snow over the rolling hills and vineyards. And plus, this meant more time spent indoors drinking wine, right?! 🍷 I went for an exceptional Wine Tasting, which you can see all about in my Stories. More about the variety of Bauer wines sampled, paired with a wonderfully gourmet, lavish menu, in upcoming posts! _________ #Dragasani#Romania#winecountry#CramaBauer

After the snow, come the puddles and reflections ... I took this photo some months ago, along with others in Bucharest which I never got around to posting. I’ve seen more striking libraries in my life, but Bucharest’s National Library inaugurated few years ago is not too shabby I have to say 🤫 Have a look inside the lobby, worth a visit! And so is a stroll on sunny days along Dâmbovița River. ___________ #Bucharest#Romania#BibliotecaNationala#reflectiongram#reflection_shots#reflectionphotography

When you find the unexpected in places you least expect to 🌾 Such was the case with the expansive grounds of the Botanical Garden in Brussels and its photogenic Orangerie. Doors of Brussels 👌🏻 Not sure how many people visit new cities for architectural reasons, but aside from having never been to Brussels and curious to try more of its world renowned beer and chocolate, I was curious to witness why Brussels is included in the Art Nouveau network of cities. To stroll its streets in search for striking Art Nouveau motifs. I can’t say I’ve seen it all but I did enjoy the doors and façades that I did. And this door caught my attention almost hidden by a huge tree next to it. Are you a fan or Art Nouveau? __________ #Brussels#Bruxelles#Belgium#VisitBrussels#BXLove#ArtNouveau
