It's World Mental Health Day and in honor of destigmatizing mental health issues, I want to share my story. Some of you have seen me write about this before, but for anyone who hasn't it's heavy stuff. ⚠️TW: sexual violence, rape, depression.⚠️ I suffer from a Rape Trauma Syndrome (RTS), a disorder similar to PTSD that's specific to people like me who've been raped. Even though it's been years since my last incident, I still have days where the unexpected sight of my bare skin or the flash of a face reminiscent of my rapists sends me into a spiral of tears and acute onset depression. Even typing that word, rapist in plural, sets my teeth on edge and I’m so angry about what’s been taken from me. I'm uncommonly jumpy to this day, and have a love/hate relationship with my body that I’ve struggled with my entire life. It's hard to feel anything but distaste for your body when it's been used against you so many times. Yet despite all of this--despite the moments of paralysis where horrible memories flood my brain--I'm one of the lucky ones. I lived and found the courage to tell my story and I'm surrounded by a community that lifts me up. I've found love and joy and experience both every day. It doesn't escape me that my story would be completely different if I had been born black, brown, indigenous, trans or non-binary. If I can ask one thing of you today, it's this: believe us when we tell you our stories, and check in on your strong friends. Some of us forged spines of steel out of necessity, not want. To anyone who's suffering, I hear you. I see you. It's a hard road, but it gets better. #survivors#worldsmentalhealthday
Sometimes I wish I had the ability to jump into any photograph, reliving the moment captured therein over and over again. Then I remember I do, with a little squinting and a whole lot of imagination. Shoutout to @littlegreeneyes and @andrewhardy for sharing some chocolate and this moment with me, and extra thanks to Andrew for being the bringer of light (I know, I know, GOT reference game is weak. Don’t me). #dolomites#dolomiti
As we make the transition into Fall, I like to take stock of where I’m at and also gather inspiration and joy around me for the grey months to come. So, I want to ask you: what’s giving you joy these days? What gets you through the winter? Which accounts are making you laugh, inspiring you, and pushing you to go deeper? I would love if you tagged them below so I can shout them out! Photo from a perfect sunset in Zermatt. Certainly a memory I’ll look treasure for years! #zermatt#inlovewithswitzerland@bergrestaurant_fluhalp
The soothing strains of Bach cut through my sleep, announcing the imminent arrival of the sun. I bolted awake, quickly donning warm layers and house slippers before stumbling to the lake while FaceTiming the sunrise with loved ones. As I gazed out at the Matterhorn, I couldn’t contain a few tears and squeals of delight. These are the moments that make every creaking joint, sore muscle, and sleepless night worth it. #matterhorn#zermatt#inlovewithswitzerland
Our trip through the Dolomites was a whirlwind of beauty and emotion. We summited stunning peaks, like Cima Cadin in the background here, then gazed back at them from new vantage points. We made new friends with our easy banter and omnipresent laughter and even confronted death, holding onto our joy a little more fiercely with the reminder that nothing in life is certain. I can’t wait to share more from our trip but for now I’m sitting with feelings of gratitude and determination to return for more. @visitsouthtyrol#südtirol#suedtirol#altoadige#sheexplores
At @project16x we talked a lot about our beginnings and the ways they shape us now. As a child, my spare time was spent outside or with my nose in a book. I loved daydreaming about distant locations, painting pictures in my mind about how it would look, feel, and taste to travel the world. Back then, we couldn’t afford to visit those places so the great outdoors and my fertile imagination became my magic carpet. These days, I’m incredibly lucky to have visited so many places and my favorite way to explore is via human-powered travel. From the towering San Juan mountains outside of Telluride to the brilliant blue water of Lago di Braies in Italy, I’ve been racking up the miles in my @hokaoneone shoes and I can’t wait to see where they take me next. What ways has your childhood shaped the way you experience the world? Shot for @hokaoneone#hokaoneone#hoka
Tomorrow @drawntohighplaces and I are off for an adventure in @visitsouthtyrol and I’m so dang excited! We’ll be hiking, climbing, eating and laughing our way through the Dolomites, capturing the experience in paint and photographs. I can’t wait to share what we get up to! #sheexplores#optoutside

A few weeks ago, I had the incredible opportunity to attend @project16x at High Camp Collective outside of Telluride, CO. There, I gathered with a group of powerful women from different niches across the outdoor industry to have deep, difficult conversations about everything from the environment to lack of representation and what each of us, individually and collectively, are willing to risk and sacrifice in the name of a greater good. I'm infinitely grateful to everyone who showed up and the grace, passion, knowledge, and vulnerability they brought. It's given me much to think on and I'm excited to implement the things I learned. Huge shoutout to the amazing crew of humans and brands who made this possible: Amanda, Gabby, Addie, Sarah, Steph—you nourished us and created space for everything that happened while @fjallraven_na and @hokaoneone kept us cozy and dry.
In two weeks I’m heading back to Switzerland with @drawntohighplaces and I’m over the moon! We’ll explore some new-to-me places in one of my favorite countries before hopping over to the Dolomites to hike and climb our hearts out. To say I’m excited is an understatement! If you have any favorite places in either spot, I would love to hear more! #inlovewithswitzerland#zermatt
