As most of you know, tomorrow was supposed to be a big day for 17 of the bonobos at Lola ya Bonobo. Unfortunately cold and flu are in Kinshasa and among all precautions we couldn’t avoid the bonobos to contract it. Nyota ya Lola a 6 years old female born at Lola ya Bonobo was particularly attack presenting high fever and very difficult breathing. The health team estimated that the group was not strong enough to make such a big travel. All the team is doing his best to medicate and treat the group to keep the epidemic under control and minimize the delay of travel. We’ll definitely keep you posted about Nyota ya Lola’s évolution and more updates about the preparation! In this video you can see Masisi drinking her home made medical tea, a very appreciated beverage for all! #drc#congo#kinshasa#reintroduction#lolayabonobo#delay#cold#tea#bonobo#greatape

Mvula ya Lola is a juvenile female of almost 5 years. She’s getting more independent from her mother everyday as she’s growing up and her mother is now pregnant again. You can appreciate her having some fun swinging on branches. But as soon as mom is getting away she stops playing to follow her. Bonobos are also known as the “Peter Pan Ape”, because even if getting older and more independent, play is a very important part of their behavior/society. #drc#congo#kinshasa#sanctuary#lolayabonobo#bonobo#ape#greatape#wildanimal#forest#nature#swinging#play#fun

Bonobos are endemic of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Bonobos live in a territory bordered by the Congo river and the Kasai river, stretches over the Congolese Province of Equator, Bandundu, both Kasai Provinces, Maniema and Province Orientale. Their community is no bigger than 563.000 km2 In Kinshasa, at Lola ya Bonobo we do rescue and rehabilitate orphans and when possible we do reintroduce them into the wild at Ekolo ya Bonobo, nearby Basankusu (over 800km). Education of local communities is also a main goal of our work, either in Kinshasa nor Basankusu. #territory#drc#kinshasa#sanctuary#bonobo#wildanimal#rescue#rehabilitate#reintroduce#educate#homerange#greatape
