Last weekend I competed in my first competition. And I’m so glad I did. Even though I didn’t hit quite the numbers I wanted, I still got a chance to see how far I’ve come in the last 9 months. And the progress has been amazing. I can’t thank @gametimestrength@coachkelskegts@chasethedreamnotthedollar@nick.venditti@lcphilly and @philgmusic for all their help, coaching and encouragement. Since I started last June, I’ve added well over 100lbs to both my squat and my deadlift (including over a month long break not long after starting). And the fact that I hit a 248lb squat, 137.5lb bench and 285 deadlift on a “bad” day is AMAZING. And I couldn’t be happier that I competed. Now I’ve had a chance to rest and I’m ready to get back in it. Time for new goals, and to push my body to new places. Watch out. It’s slow and grindy but it’s mine! 240x2 AND IM SO HAPPY. This was my 1 rep max, but I guess I need a new one now. I also learned I like to drop my chest when the weight gets heavy, so time to work on that during the lighter volume portion of things. I’m just so happy with the progress I’ve made when 195 felt like poo poo last month. Happy International Women’s Day! I think the hardest thing about my journey to medical school was the negativity random strangers would give me. I’ve been told girls should stay out of science, I’ve been told I’m too old and no one will want that (totally false) or why would I potentially sacrifice having a family (I’m only 29! And I can still have a family... like what?). But I used this to light a fire under my butt and guess what. I GOT IN. I remember one of the first times I was at @gametimestrength and I saw @lcphilly squating. I overheard her saying she was going up to 240 that day and in my head I thought “that’s amazing. I hope one day I’ll be able to do that. “ AND TODAY WAS THAT DAY. A lot of today was a mess but my squats went SO well. New PR at 240, 25 lbs more than my one on Jan 31st.
