Our 1,700 animals need love year round and we are asking for your help! Animal enrichment is an important part of keeping our animals happy and healthy. Many of these enrichment items can be found in your home. Items can be dropped off at Guest Relations during normal business hours. Thank you for your generosity! https://bit.ly/2BlgQDs
Happy Thanksgiving from the Kansas City Zoo! We're closed today to allow our employees time to give thanks with their families. We'll reopen tomorrow at 9:30 am for the start of FOTZ Bring a Friend Weekend! Avoid the shopping mall and spend time with your friends at the Zoo!
It’s three times the cuteness in our otter nest box! Three adorable Asian small-clawed otter babies were born on October 20; it’s two boys and a girl for mom Cai and dad Ian. We wanted to name this trio after another famous trio with two boys and a girl. Facebook fans suggested names and our Zookeepers made the final decision to name the baby otters after three main characters from the Star Wars franchise, Han, Luke, and Leia. These new additions join older brother Otis, born last year, and twins Conner and Clover, born this past March 18. They are currently behind the scenes in one of their cozy dens. Although they won’t be on exhibit for a while, you can watch them on our Otter Cam which shows the action live from the family nest box.
Thanks to the warm temperature yesterday, Maxwell was able to go on the African Safari for the first time! Our giraffes are very sensitive to the temperature, but we hope there will be a few more days this year that they can go out. 📷Julia J., Zookeeper
