MAY 19 Almost Summer Pow Day @squawalpine! Bonkers. - I was in Tahoe City to present #artifishal where 19 years ago I premiered my first ski film. On the last day Alpine Meadows was open we were given this amazing gift of late season snow. What a way to cap an amazing winter! - Threw in some classic tunes from @brand_new_heavies and it felt like I was making ski movies again!! Wild.
Jackson Hole, WY is a place known for being surrounded by wild lands. Glad to share #artifishal and start a greater discussion about wild waters and the wildlife that should be in them. - Thank you @jacksonhole for supporting and to the Snake River Fund and Center for the arts in Jackson for hosting. Thanks too for the tough questions...keep ‘em coming!
My close friend and climbing partner Sangwook Ahn died in a climbing accident 27 years ago. - We were young and the silly world was bending towards us as we finished college. Lots of plans were made but they never came to be. He was the first of many friends who have since departed, often while trying to find the edge of wild places. - The best part is captured in the last image. I haven’t seen his family since the month following his funeral. So many times I wanted to call and this time I did. They came to the @patagoniaboston#artifishal show and it was beautiful. - The power of film.
Film has the power to entertain and motivate. In the past month the #artifishal campaign inspired over 150,000 people in over a dozen countries on five continents to sign a petition fighting for the protection of wild fish! - Thank you @patagoniabtv for one of the most powerful screenings. It felt good to bring the film home. I’ve never received a standing ovation for anything, and what you may not have seen under the bill of my hat was a man being choked up with gratitude. - As a filmmaker I want you to FEEL something, as an environmentalist I want you to DO something. - Make a stand for wild
Great shirt design from wild salmon activist and subject in #artifishal Mikael Frödin @frodinflies. - What most people don’t know is that Mikael was taken to court and convicted of trespassing after filming the atrocious net pen fish farm scene in the film. - He contend his act was not a crime as he was exposing the brutal reality to the public. The court agreed with him, but said that only ‘rescue’ laws in Norway would allow this argument. In the eyes of the court wild Atlantic salmon may be beyond rescue and Mikael was found guilty. We need more people fighting for wild!
Mainers are an independent bunch and I thank ALL of you, even the ones who disagree, for your interest and intensity around this issue. - And to the managers of the local hatchery and rep for the Maine aquaculture association who spoke with heart, I hope you don’t give up on wild! #artifishal
Been on the road screening #artifishal film for a month now and tonight is the last stop of the @patagonia tour. Hard not to want to keep going when you open your bag and see this message! - I’ve been in awe with how many people are responding to the ideas presented in the film and it makes me think we have a chance if we choose to fight for the future of wild. This is just the beginning.
NYC!! In the fight for wild we need allies all over the world, but who would’ve thought we’d find them in one of the biggest cities in the world?! Two screenings on two floors with one of the most earnest Q&A sessions we’ve had yet. - Thanks also to @csafina for your poetic and local insight. BOSTON #artifishal tonight!
Thanks @tribeca for an amazing opportunity to bring this film #artifishal and issue to a new and growing audience. And thank you everyone who made this happen! - Special shout out to @patagonia and @monikamcclure and @alxlwthr for shepherding this film through the process. - And to my partner @liarsandthievesinc and co-writer/editor @collinkriner for going WAY above and beyond along with our amazing producer and creative partner Laura Wagner. How the hell would this have happened without you two?! More soon please!!!
World Premiere at Tribeca Film Festival tonight! Thank you all for coming out to the local activist screenings of #artifishal@patagonia locations around the world. - Today we get to rewrite the story on a grand stage and encourage everyone to consider the importance and value of wild. This is not an abstract concept. It is imperative that humanity considers our impact on the creatures that enliven this world we share for the future and the now!
