I daydream about the beach pretty consistently, but much more so during the winter - how about you? Today I’m reflecting on a great adventure to one of my favorite countries, Costa Rica. If you like to have it all - beaches, jungles, volcanoes, lazy days, action packed days, nightlife, wildlife (including my favorite, the perezosos!) - this country is for you.
Ever considered travel as a gift? With the holiday season upon us, I’d like to bring to mind how meaningful a gift it can be. For me, it’s one of the best I can imagine - to give or receive. My husband and I once treated ourselves to a trip to Japan. I truly cherish the time we had there, and I don’t regret that we didn’t do tangible gifts. It’s a tradition I hope to continue. This season - any season, really - think of where you’d like to go with those you love. A Christmas getaway with your family? A surprise anniversary trip for your spouse? I have a plethora of ideas if you’re short on them!
My kind of town, Chicago is. It’s tempting to solely dream of faraway destinations, but one of the beautiful things about this country is that there is so much to explore within our borders. Chicago is one of my favorite US cities, and a boat tour is an excellent way to see the city while learning a little of it’s history. Short on time and don’t want to travel far? There is surely a region of the US that’ll make a great vacation for you, and I’m happy to play matchmaker. What’s your favorite city to travel to?
Are you a waterfall chaser? I am, unashamedly so. Canada proved to be a great place to fulfill this desire of mine, now home to some of my favorite waterfalls. I’m currently working on an itinerary for clients who are looking to include this on their upcoming vacation and am pretty excited to share some of my favorites with them!
Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, Africa. Which destination do you want to visit most? Yesterday I had the privilege to meet with lovely people from tourism boards and travel companies from each of these countries - we covered it all! I love learning more about the destinations my clients will be traveling to and making connections with those who represent them. When creating your itinerary, I want to ensure the suggestions I’m making actually fit what you’re looking for, and these meetings are a really fun way for me to do so! This led me to fondly remember my trip to Japan earlier this year - we were so lucky to see Fujisan on a clear day!
What was the first trip that sparked your zest for travel? This is the ultimate #tbt photo, taken so long ago I won’t mention the year. It was my very first trip out of the US: a study abroad program with other nursing students to Jamaica. What an experience it was. I had no idea that travel would change my life and become one of my biggest passions. Today? I’m passionate about helping you realize your travel dreams by creating vacation experiences that are exactly right for you. It allows me to provide a much needed service that I’ve experienced so much joy from myself. I want you to have it too!
A good adventurous read can usually spark my wanderlust - how about for you? As more ski resorts are beginning to open here in Colorado, I’m reminded of Warren Miller’s Freedom Found. This book was fascinating to me - I loved hearing more about Warren’s life and what it was like to experience skiing before, during and after resort development - in addition to how his films got started. Highly recommend this book for the winter enthusiasts patiently waiting for snow!
Why travel? Because CELEBRATION. This spontaneous trip to Yellowstone for my 30th birthday was exactly what I wanted: full of laughs, long talks in the car, grizzly sighting, surrounded by beautiful scenery with people I love. Get some of those people you love together and celebrate with travel - the memories are beyond compare!
One thing I make sure to explore when I’m traveling: the food! As a self-proclaimed foodie, researching the best eats in a new city or country is a must for me. Da Crack has the best burritos on Kauai. They once saved my relationship (and if you get hangry, I’m sure you can relate). What are your favorite travel eats?
Don’t you love when “Ocean Front" is really ocean front? This lovely stretch of beach was just steps away from my room! Have you ever stayed at a property while on vacation and it wasn't what you thought it would be? Maybe it said you'd have an ocean front view, but that wasn't exactly accurate. Maybe it was described as being a 5 minute walk to the heart of the city, but it was more like 25. The essence of my business? I’d say it’s to serve and inform my clients - serving you matching your vacation desires with exactly what's right for you and informing by being a source of knowledge for your desired destination and property choices. I delight in making sure you're really getting that ocean front view!
I knew I was near a Forbes Travel Guide’s 30 Most Luxurious Spa in the World, so I had to experience it for myself (right?!). Now I know why the Spa at Grand Velas has received this designation. Truly incredible ambiance, services and staff! Sometimes you taking a step back from all the activities to take care of yourself is so worth it, and this was definitely one of those days. Would you do it? How do you treat yourself when you travel?
Am I heading to the next Survivor tribal council or my room? I love the jungle-like feel of this part of Grand Velas - you’re truly surrounded by it. Of note, there’s a cenote right next tho this! Would you choose a beachfront or jungle view room?
If this is how you start a Friday in Riviera Maya, count me in! Growing up in the Midwest, I used to complain about the hot, humid summers. Landing in Mexico from dry Colorado has me missing that kind of weather on occasion now! Am so excited to be here and start my weekend with this view. What will you be doing this weekend?
What are your fall travel plans? I’m so happy my favorite season is here, and living in Colorado with these colors makes it all the more delightful to experience. However, this weekend I’ll be heading to the beach! Am looking forward to learning more about a new destination and which travelers it will be a perfect fit for - stay tuned!
Do you look forward to or respectfully avoid destination weddings? I love them! As if I needed another reason to travel... Witnessing one of the most significant moments of a friend’s life and celebrating with a great group of people is such an amazing experience. And let’s be honest, it’s even more amazing when it’s at the beach.
Do ski resorts disappear from your mind once the season is over? Don’t let them! Summer and fall are actually my favorite time to experience them. Downhill mountain biking and hiking at Vail last week was such a blast! If your adventures take you to a ski resort outside of winter, be sure to take advantage of these other activities and see a new side of the mountains.
Recognize this famous concert venue? A summer trip in Colorado isn’t fully complete without a show at Red Rocks. As the only naturally-occurring amphitheater around, the acoustics here are incredible. A show here can make a great addition to a trip in or through Colorado and give you a little more experiential travel for this great home state of mine. What’s your favorite concert venue? . . . . #redrocksamphitheater#visitcolorado#visitdenver#coloradomusicscene#musiclover#summerconcerts
What’s your favorite Hawaiian Island? It’s hard to decide sometimes, as each one offers something a little different! But for me, Kauai is a special place - I did get engaged on the Kalalau Trail, so that’s part of it! It sure doesn’t feel like work when you’re learning more about one of your favorite destinations, and I always like to be in the know for my clients as well. A big thanks to everyone from the Hawaii Tourism Team for providing us Hawaii travel advisor enthusiasts with a great event! . . . @gohawaii#lethawaiihappen#traveladvisor#travelagent#travelagentlife#travelinspiration
