When you’re on your final 15km and even a ferocious headwind can’t dampen your mood (well not entirely πŸ’¨πŸ˜₯) πŸ‘ŠπŸΌπŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™€οΈ ~ This trip didn’t give me a newfound love of cycling, and it definitely reminded me that I have a low tolerance for infrequent showering (more than 1wk is just cruel). I’ll never be that extreme outdoors person who can leave behind modern conveniences and live off the land. But I can always look back on this trip and remember that once upon a time I was a total badass πŸ¦ΈπŸ»β€β™€οΈ

When @micheletuch casually asks you if you want to cycle the Pamir Highway and you say sure without really looking into the details πŸ™ˆ. 17 days travelling across Tajikistan into Kyrgyzstan over the second highest highway in the world 🌎 with no previous experience and no training... perhaps not my finest idea. We overcame more than our fair share of mechanical issues, learnt how to crash a wedding, survived a run in with the KGB, successfully threw a rock over to the Afghan border, discovered my favourite new animal (marmots), and realised very quickly that my body really hates altitude 🀒. I may have thought I was going to die at least twice a day but what a literal high this moment was - 4655m above sea level all powered by these stumpy wee legs πŸš΅πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ’ͺ🏼 . #gobigorgohome#demquads#ididitforthemarmots

A young Israeli soldier on duty in Hebron, the largest city in the West Bank. This road is in H2, the Israel controlled sector which accounts for 20% of the city. Behind him is H1, the sector controlled by the Palestinian Authority I specifically came to this part of the world to hear contrasting viewpoints and for that the Dual Narrative tour run by @abrahamtours was perfect, I highly recommend it to anybody visiting the West Bank πŸ’― #hebron#visitpalestine#westbank

You can visit Bethlehem and not come close to a single section of the separation wall. You can travel on an Israeli bus, along Israeli roads, and go see all the famous nativity sites. Or instead of 2000yr old history, you can go see history in the making, and choose to experience just a tiny taste of what Palestinians live with every day. Take the local bus from East Jerusalem, go through the checkpoints, and come face to face with this monstrosity of a separation wall. It’s 8m high, dotted with military watch towers, grows every day, and puts the Berlin Wall to shame. Even as a visitor you feel insignificant and hopeless in its shadow as it looms over you. Make your way to the Walled Off Hotel and check out their fantastic art gallery for local artists, and their suppression museum which contains stories that will cause you to leave simultaneously perplexed and horrified. They also offer tours of the wall where you can listen to various locals perspective I didn’t go visit the religious sites of Bethlehem so perhaps I missed out on something special, but the things I saw and the stories I heard were life changing, and I suspect far more interesting than a tomb from thousands of years ago (the location of which can’t even be agreed upon by different groups anyway). #traveldeeper#visitpalestine#walledoffhotel

πŸ“Western Wall, Jerusalem The site is predominantly associated with Judaism, but as I sat and watched the Friday night prayers at the #westernwall , I witnessed believers of many faiths come to pray at this important religious landmark. There are times when it really pays off to be a solo female traveler and this was definitely one of them. When you’re not seen as a threat you are allowed to be an observer up close and capture better photographs. Many women also took pity on the lonely girl and welcomed me into their groups and discussions. Maybe it was because we were divided into sections by gender but despite our different appearances and languages, there was a real sense of camaraderie amongst these women from around the world and it was a privilege to observe and to be a part of it for a time #jerusalem#templemount

πŸ“Petra, Jordan πŸ‡―πŸ‡΄ Today marks 3 years since I boarded a plane and left wee ole New Zealand to go explore the big wide world 🌍. I’ve been incredibly lucky to have travelled as much as I have, and to have seen the wonders I’ve seen, but the moment captured here was truly something special ✨ The sad reality of travelling frequently is that you can become blasΓ© to new destinations because you begin to feel like you’ve seen it all before, and sometimes you worry that a particular site won’t live up to hype. From watching Indiana Jones to reading Nat Geo magazines, I’ve wanted to visit this historical marvel for as long as I can remember, and it was very difficult to manage my expectations. Thankfully my fears were unfounded as #Petra was everything I thought it would be and more πŸ’―. Entering the site as the sun rose and being the first ones on the hiking trail, culminating in this incredible view - it’s an experience I’ll never forget ❀️ #shareyourjordan#happyanniversarytome#beintrepid#kodakmoment

🌡 The Wadi Rum desert landscape is like nothing I’ve ever seen before and it completely blew my mind. There are crazy rock formations around every corner and some pretty cool pieces of history if you know where to look. Take this canyon for example, a few metres behind me there are some rock drawings that are several thousand years old - the things we did before google maps huh πŸ—Ί #intrepidtravel#shareyourjordan@visitjordan
