#Bratz turn 18 tomorrow, so here’s a #selfie with my #BratzCollector girlz photobombing in the back 😍 Growing up & being a young kid that loved to draw, collecting dolls & having a #Passion4Fashion, I naturally gravitated towards Bratz when they came out in 2001. So daring, glam, unapologetically diverse & fashion forward, they were like nothing the doll industry had witnessed before. As the brand got bigger & became a billion dollar franchise, i dreamed that one day I could design for the dolls. I sketched my dream into existence with my illustrations & got featured in Bratz Magazine in 2006. Little did I know that 15 yr old me at the time would manifest that dream & end up designing my own Bratz Collector line of dolls 12 years later. That is one of the reasons I am so proud of this collab. The fact that I never gave up & made my dream a reality, going from a fan & consumer, to actually designing these dolls. On top of that, being a British person of colour, getting the opportunity to fly to L.A to work on the dolls & having not only my designs come to life, but my artwork, logo & signature on the packaging. Having my bio & portrait on the box is mind blowing to me STILL. How often do we see a person of colour get this type of recognition & credit as a doll designer? I can’t tell you the last time i’ve seen this (if ever) and i’m so grateful. This collaboration is so special to me & will be forever! Thank you to any & everyone that supported these dolls & my artwork over the years. Thank you to the select group of Bratz fans that critiqued my dolls honestly, expressed their concerns, but still had respect & spoke to me like I was a human being. I’ll even say thank you to the people that once upon a time supported with their words, but when my dream came true, didn’t follow through with support, but replaced those once kind words with hate & shadiness. That’s ok. It’s better to know from now before my career rises further who isn’t authentic. This project was bigger than me. It’s an inspiring story that I hope anyone that has similar aspirations can really look at me & dream big too! Stay focused & you can achieve anything & THEN SOME! 💜
With the #Bratz anniversary around the corner, i had to say a huge thank you to all of the amazing influential people that supported my #BratzCollector dolls out of the kindness of their hearts. I was able to utilise the amazing connections I have built over the years with these people & they showed up & showed out for me. It’s so amazing to be able to say that they all own dolls I have designed 😭❤️ Like seriously, i’m so beyond grateful to everyone that genuinely showed love and it just goes to show that people will really support you if they like you and what you do. #Passion4Fashion#Bratzified#WinnieHarlow#LeomieAnderson#NorthWest#KimKardashian#NaomiCampbell#MingLeeSimmons#JourdanDunn#MadisonBeer#FarrenFucci#MarjorieHarvey#SueGragg#NiniNguyen
