Grey Heron • The grey heron is a long-legged predatory wading bird of the heron family, Ardeidae, native throughout temperate Europe and Asia and also parts of Africa. It is resident in much of its range, but some populations from the more northern parts migrate southwards in autumn. The main call is a loud croaking "fraaank", but a variety of guttural and raucous noises is heard at the breeding colony. The male uses an advertisement call to encourage a female to join him at the nest, and both sexes use various greeting calls after a pair bond has been established. A loud, harsh "schaah" is used by the male in driving other birds from the vicinity of the nest and a soft "gogogo" expresses anxiety, as when a predator is nearby or a human walks past the colony. The chicks utter loud chattering or ticking noises. • #birdsofindia#birdsofprey#birdgeek#birding#birds#birdsofpune#birdphotography#bird#birdsofinstagram#birdnerd#greyheron#waterbirds#piscivorous#photography#natgeoyourshot#natgeo#natgeoindia#natgeowild#animalplanetindia#discovery#bbcearth#sanctuaryasia@indianwildlifeofficial@indian_wildlifes@birdphotographers_of_india@birds.nature@birdsonearth@birds_adored@nuts_about_birds@natgeowild@natgeoindia@natgeoyourshot@animalplanetindia@discoverychannelin@bbcearth

Spot Billed Duck • The Indian spot-billed duck is a large dabbling duck that is a non-migratory breeding duck throughout freshwater wetlands in the Indian subcontinent. The name is derived from the red spot at the base of the bill that is found in the mainland Indian population.  The wings are whitish with black flight feathers below, and from above show a white-bordered green The male has a red spot on the base of the bill, which is absent or inconspicuous in the smaller but otherwise similar female. The male does not have an eclipse plumage. The legs and feet are bright orange to coral red. Juveniles are browner and duller than adults. • #birdsofindia#birdgeek#birding#birds#birdsofpune#birdwatching#birder#birdphotography#birdsofinstagram#birdnerd#ducks#resident#waterbirds#spotbilledduck#natgeoyourshot#natgeowild#natgeoindia#animalphotography#animalplanetindia#discovery#bbcearth@indianwildlifeofficial@indian_wildlifes@thewildcone@claws.n.wings@nuts_about_birds@thewildcone@birds.nature@birdsonearth@birds_adored

Plum Headed Parakeet • The plum-headed parakeet is a parrot in the family Psittacidae. It is endemic to the Indian Subcontinent and was once thought to be conspecific with the blossom-headed parakeet but was later elevated to a full species.  The plum-headed parakeet is a mainly green parrot, 33 cm long with a tail up to 22 cm. The male has a red head which shades to purple-blue on the back of the crown, nape and cheeks while the female has blueish-gray head. • #birdsofindia#birdgeek#birding#birds#birdsofpune#birdwatching#birder#birdphotography#birdsofinstagram#birdnerd#parakeet#plumheadedparakeet#natgeoyourshot#natgeo#natgeowild#animalphotography#animalplanetindia#discovery#bbcearth@indianwildlifeofficial@indian_wildlifes@nuts_about_birds@birdphotographers_of_india@birds.nature@birds_adored

Eurasian Oystercatcher pair • This oystercatcher is unmistakable in flight, with white patches on the wings and tail, otherwise black upperparts, and white underparts. Young birds are more brown, have a white neck collar and a duller bill. The call is a distinctive loud piping. The bill shape varies; oystercatchers with broad bill tips open molluscs by prising them apart or hammering through the shell, whereas pointed-bill birds dig up worms. Much of this is due to the wear resulting from feeding on the prey. Individual birds specialise in one technique or the other which they learn from their parents. • #valentinesday2019#waders#pelagic#oystercatchers#wintermigrant#birdsofindia#birding#birdgeek#birder#birdphotography#birdsofinstagram#photography#alibaug#coastalbirds#pair#ornithology#natgeoyourshot#natgeo#natgeoindia#natgeowild#animalplanetindia#discovery#bbcearth@indianwildlifeofficial@indian_wildlifes@birdphotographers_of_india@nuts_about_birds@birds.nature@birds_adored@sanctuaryasia@natgeoimagecollection@natgeoyourshot@natgeowild@animalplanetindia@bbcearth

White Bellied Sea Eagle • The white-bellied sea eagle, also known as the white-breasted sea eagle, is a large diurnal bird of prey in the family Accipitridae. Originally described by Johann Friedrich Gmelin in 1788, it is closely related to Sanford's sea eagle of the Solomon Islands, and the two are considered a superspecies. The wings are modified when gliding so that they rise from the body at an angle, but are closer to horizontal further along the wingspan. In silhouette, the comparatively long neck, head and beak stick out from the front almost as far as the tail does behind. For active flight, the white-bellied sea eagle alternates strong deep wing-beats with short periods of gliding. • #birdsofprey#birdsofindia#birdgeek#birding#birdphotography#birder#birdsofinstagram#nutsaboutbirds#eagles#whitebelliedseaeagle#konkan#pelagic#coastalbirds#natgeo#natgeoindia#natgeowild#natgeoyourshot#animalplanet#discovery#bbcearth@indianwildlifeofficial@indian_wildlifes@best_birds_of_world@birds_adored@nuts_about_birds@natgeotravellerindia@natgeoindia@natgeowild@animalplanet@animalplanetindia@bbcearth@discoverychannelin@discovery

It is found mainly along the inland waters of the Indian subcontinent but extending west to Sind and east to Thailand and Cambodia. Indian Scops Owl • The Indian scops owl is a small (23–25 cm) owl, although it is one of the largest of the scops owls. Like other scops owls, it has small head tufts, or ears. The upperparts are grey or brown, depending on the morph, with faint buff spotting. The underparts are buff with fine darker streaking. The facial disc is whitish or buff, and the eyes are orange or brown. There is a buff neckband. Sexes are similar. The flight is deeply undulating. This species is very similar to the slightly larger partially migratory collared scops owl (Otus lettia) and the oriental scops owl (Otus sunia). They can be separated on call and eye colour. • #birdsofprey#birdsofindia#bird#owls#owlsofindia#indianscopsowl#triplets#birdphotography#photography#animalnerd#pannamemories#pannatigerreserve#natgeo#natgeoindia#natgeowild#animalplanet#bbc#discovery#foliageoutdoors#foliager@indianwildlifeofficial@indian_wildlifes@best_birds_of_world@nuts_about_birds@indian.african.wildlife@birdphotographers_of_india@natgeotravellerindia@natgeowild@animalplanetindia
