Amost every summer I fly home to Utah on @southwestair to visit my Dad. We go on hiking adventures in Southern Utah and Arizona with a family friend who lives in the heart of some of America's most well known National Parks and recreational areas that are unique and beautiful. Each trip we explore different magical places. Last June we went to Paige, AZ and experienced Horseshoe Bend from above at the jaw dropping cliff overlook area (where my dad faced his fear of heights) and from below on a boat trip down part of the Colorado River. If you take a boat trip you might get to see some of these petroglyphs at one of the rest areas and some wild horses along the river between the Hoover Dam and Lee's Ferry. #SouthwestStorytellers#contest#family#hiking#americanoutdoors#arizona#naturalbeauty#horsebend#hooverdam#coloradoriver#leesferry#petroglyphs#rockart#wildhorses#naturephotgraphy#travelphotography#faceyourfears#latergram

I was bitten by the "travel bug" at a very early age and it's something I had in common with my Grandma. She loved to travel. Now I hop on a flight, preferably a @southwestair as often as I can to travel to places new and old. They make travel fun, affordable and easy! My Grandma took me to Germany the summer before I started high school. This was my very first time traveling outisde of the U.S. We spent 3 wks in Hamburg and had a ball with her younger brother and his wife who still lived in my grandma's childhood home. The 4 of us also did a road trip through Saxony for a week. For my 32 second birthday I went back to Germany solo on a 2 wk trip, my Grandma passed a couple years prior. The trip was a hommage to her and our trip but also to experience different places in Germany and Europe we didn't have a chance to go to together. I rented a car and road tripped around Germany, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Austria. It was an incredible journey experiencing these wildly different and culturally rich places. I met and hungout with diverse, friendly and fun people (locals and travelers from around the globe). I went to historical places and markets, looked at fine art, watched live music, street performers, tried new types of food, went on walking tours, and introduced myself to a lot of new people. Traveling alone can be fun, intimidating, lonely, freeing and so much more! About midway through my trip I had an unexpected change to my soft itinerary and thanks to a kind friend from college I ended up spending the night in her spare room in Freiberg instead of my hostel in Prague. The next morning I drove through this beautiful countryside of east Germany on a dainty 2 lane highway to Prague instead of driving on the Autobahn from Dresden as originally planned. About 10 minutes outside of Frieberg as the sun rose in the sky I was surrounded by fields of sunflowers. It was breath takingly beautiful and serene. When traveling leave yourself open to the unexpected and you might be surprised where go! #SouthwestStorytellers#contest#travelbug#roadtrippin#countryside#sunflowers#germany#landscapephotography#nofilter#unexpectedexperience

One of my favorite things about traveling is wandering around a city at night when the city is alive but quiet at same time. This is one of the must stunning hills I came across in San Francisco during my wandering... I criss crossed the hill multiple times until capturing this shot at the peak. . . #urbanphotography#nighttimewalks#sanfrancisco#wandering#thishillthough#thebaylights#aboutlastweek#latergram ❤🌉

My favorite thing about traveling is the people from all walks of life you meet
My favorite thing about traveling is the people from all walks of life you meet along the way & the experiences you have has a result. Last night I went to a stellar seafood spot for oysters recommended by the lovely concierge of my hotel wherein I met two retired firefighters (celebrating their 35 yr anniversary) one of which grew up in Salt Lake City, UT (aka my home town) & an Australian who is a theatre automacian tech based in upstate NY. The later of which joined me for drinks & conversation about travels at the local watering hole across the street during open mic night (sorry didn't take any photos at Bella Cora but I can't reccomend it enough!) Upon the recommendation of the bartender I went to Specs' Twelve Adler Museum Cafe which is a watering hole for locals and has lots of "museum like knick nacks on the wall" (quote from Google maps as the bar tender just called it Specs). At this spot I met an interesting guy who has lived on SF 20+ years but is originally from Athens, GA. We had really interesting conversation about our experiences growing up in smaller religious centric cities & then living in large urban and multicultural cities as adults. Next I hopped across the street to Vesuvio Cafe another local watering hole with a humble nod to Jack Kerouac and the beat generation. Here I met a lovely woman born and reared in Chicago (my current home) who has lived in SF 10 years or so. We had a lovely conversation about the cultural and outdoor nature differences between living in the Midwest and the Pacific NW (I lived in Seattle for 3 years). Last but not least I stopped for a last drink at Mr. Bings as reccomend by my lovely Indian born, Wisconsin raised bar tender at Spec. He said "it's not the original but it's definitely a good spot to check out." Here I had an excellently crafted old fashion made by the bar tender who is originally from LA and had excellent taste in music... her play list was exactly what I wanted to listen to! I also chatted up an interesting guy from Cambridge, UK who was here on business for his IT firm. Goes to show you never know who you'll meet and the conversations you'll have when traveling solo! #sanfrancisco#travel

Yesterday I left the blizzards in Chicago for warmer weather in San Francisco on a work related trip. This is my 3rd time visiting SF but my trips have always been short so I'm excited to explore different parts of the city on foot since last time I rented a car to explore some of the city and road trip to the Red Wood National Forrest (I'll post those sometime soon because it was truly magical!). After spending most of the day at the airport due to weather delays I was relieved to get to my hotel and relax a bit before exploring. Was delighted to see an umbrella in the closet of my room because I forgot mine and treated myself to a complimentary gin martini at my hotel on their terrace before getting my evening started! #byesnowychicago#hellosanfrancisco#relax#enjoytravels#wanderlust#adventurehereicome#nofilters

Last night I stopped in 2 iconic spots to listen to some local bands. First up was BB's Jazz, Blues and Soups and listened to some Jazz which paired nicely with my Seafood Bisque and delicious cornbread muffin. Then I walked across the street to The Beale on Broadway and listened to some blues paired with Civil Life's American Brown Ale. Each had it's own unique vibe but the staff at both were friendly. Would love to come Back! #aboutlastnight#livemusic#jazz#blues#bb'sjazzbluesandsoups#TheBeale#st.louisadventures#missouri#roadtrippin

Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln's Home. Abe spent most of his adult life here and it's the only home he ever owned. While he was away on business as a lawyer Mary Todd used her 12k inheritance from her father to add on the second story. She didn't ask or tell Abe about it. This weekend it's Open House Chicago presented by the Chicago Architecture Center. It's a great way to see 250 unique and interesting sites in the city for free! I'm volunteering a greeter at Few Spirits in Evanston. Come say hi, learn about how Gin AND Whiskey are distilled and have some samples! . . Evanston was the home of the temperance movement and a dry city until 1972. #openhousechicago2018#fewspirits#gin#whikskey#temperancemovement#evanston

A great thing about traveling sans itinerary is when you happen upon spots loved by locals. I was curious why people were using these spray bottles on their fries. A family near me explained there were different types of vinegar in the spray bottles and that this spot is a favorite among locals for "fries" under the bridge. I don't normally put vinegar on my fish and chips but when it Canada... ps it was pretty good and didn't saturate the food. #sprayvinegaralltheway Beautiful little waterfront park with several fry and insert food here trucks. #roadtrippin#lakehuron#canadaside#justovertheborder#fishandchips#eatlikealocal#canadianadventures
