Ways My Relationship With Money Has Changed. • I don't sweat the small stuff. • Knowing where your money is going is great, and more people should start doing this. • However, I used to take it to the extreme. • I would think about every pula I would spend, and it was hard for me to enjoy spending any money, no matter how much money I made or if I had the money set aside for a specific purpose. • I believe this is since I lived above my means before and now lived in fear of that happening again. • Often, our past influences our current relationship with money. This can also be the way our parents used money. • So, if you are finding yourself making financial missteps, it’s important to get to the root of the problem so you can change your relationship with money. • And, yes, money can make or break you, but it is also there to be enjoyed and to use to your advantage. • Once you are on a good financial path and have budgeted money for fun, you should be able to enjoy the money you are spending instead of feeling guilty or upset. • How has your relationship with money changed over the years? • Have you gotten better or worse with money?

But the rush of such swift hurt as well as rejection it feels so real and so true in the moment, most of the time. Side note: I personally believe that I feel emotions on a higher scale then most. I got a talkin’ to in front of the group when I tried to reiterate these views. I wish I wasn't as mean. I do this obsessive texting shit. It would be so annoying. But I get these emotions which try to take charge. They are huge bad emotions. There's my good obsession. Often called 'flipping your lid,' disconnection from the prefrontal cortex happens when an internal or external trigger puts a person outside of the window of tolerance. The brain disconnects from the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain responsible for helping us to mindfully observe, calm down, and think logically. Partners of survivors are often faced with situations where a survivor 'disconnects' seemingly without warning. For partners, this feels shocking, confusing, hurtful, and frightening. We could be having a neutral conversation or out enjoying the day when BAM! As the list suggests, the loss of connection shows up in a variety of ways (list is not comprehensive). This disconnect impacts the partner on so many levels. We feel it in our emotions (e.g., fear), our thoughts (e.g., confusion), and our nervous systems (e.g., jarring, anxiety, thrown off balance). In some cases, we are thrown out of our window of tolerance and disconnect from the prefrontal cortex. It's essential for partners, supporters, and caregivers to understand this and learn tools to stay calm and connected to self. A while ago, I did a series of Insta videos of self-regulation tools I use to do this. But understanding what is happening is also incredibly helpful. If you are a partner or a supporter, it's important to know that you haven't done anything wrong when a survivor disconnects. It's part of complex PTSD. Continue to educate yourself, learn tools to stay calm and connected, and reach out for support...all of this will help you take care of you! A tree at sunrise. Two perfect images of the value of growing and flourishing. I shared how I love the early mornings and the hope and energy of the sunrise in my post 2 days ago. I also love trees. I feel deeply connected to trees and I have so many stories that include trees in my life. I lived in Halifax for almost 8 years - HRM (for the Haligonians that read this). Halifax is a unique city especially if you grew up in a land-locked province, as I did. Halifax is a port city surrounded by forest & sprinkled with lakes. People go home from work on a Tuesday night and enjoy clam bakes on the shore out side their homes and then sit on pontoon boats watching or participating in water skiing until dark. Some can also go walking in the forests outside their home to visit a neighbour before work. I bought a house on Grand Lake with 2 acres of forest land and I loved my trees. One day in 2003 Hurricane Juan hit and my favourite AND tallest oak tree landed in my den. I was heart broken to lose my favourite tree and I reflected on her majesty and beauty all winter as I cuddled up next to the wood burning stove where she crackled while heating my home. Trees, maybe especially in #Toronto are living and giving sources in our lives. Just as a sunrise reminds us of the new possibilities in each day, the trees around us are adding warmth and texture. Each spring as this city comes back into fullness we all feel comforted and refreshed. My mission is to #holdspace for you, the 20- and 30-something person who wants to #dothework with me to be more #selfaware every single day so you can fully flourish in the glow of every sunrise while enjoying the gifts bestowed on us and all around us every day. It calms the nervous system and teaches self-regulation to both kids and us parents🙃(yes, please! so needed!)I often teach this to the parents I work with and the kids I see for private yoga therapy sessions. I have worked so often with parents feeling hopeless when their kids are always anxious, which keeps the vicious cycle going. It can be super challenging to trust in our kids’ capacity to self-repair over time. It is a constant work of awareness to remember that, besides the support we can and should give, each person have their personal story and path to walk- even our kids! This week I was teaching this technoque over the phone and both my student and I could feel our phones vibrate. It was a skype session, since I am away from Boston on vacation in Greece at the moment. That seriously demands courage, the courage to observe your own behavior, being honest about your own shortcomings and therefor being able to shift to behaviorchange. When you fall in-love with the beauty of your values, your awareness sharpens and your respect for your character strengthens. Without an awareness of your values, you have no compass and no direction. . . || COME TO YOUR SENSES || . 🗝One of the most essential skills we can learn is to intentionally use our senses to bring ourselves into the present moment. . . This is particularly important when working with anxiety, depression, and trauma, which keep us stuck in the past or future - robbing us of the present moment. . . Rumination and worry are key in maintaining mood and anxiety disorders. . . ✨Practice 1: Explore your senses. Look around and find a pleasant object to look at. Close your eyes and listen without judgment, or listen for the quietest sound in the room. Smell what you smell, or use an essential oil you like. Notice the felt-sense of your body and the support of the chair under you. (I haven’t used taste much in session, but you could definitely explore this). Take your time with each, no rush, and notice which one most effectively anchors you to the moment with a sense of ease. . . ✨Practice 2: Spend some time focusing your attention on the one sense that’s most calming for you. Once you feel present, turn your attention inward and notice how you feel in your body, your mind, your energy. And then focus externally again through that sense. Slowly move back and forth between the external and internal environments. . . This practice doesn’t have to take long and it can be used anytime throughout the day when you catch yourself spinning around in your head. Try it every day for a week and notice how you feel! ✨

Blessed to have this oasis in our family with a 5th generation now experiencing it's magic! Vacationing with littles comes with changes in routine, often a little excess sugar and some extra meltdowns as the inevitable cherry on top. I have underestimated the grounding power of movement in helping me to keep my cool in these moments and in helping me to stay present for the joyful ones. In past vacations, I ran to escape the stress of these moments or avoided my movement practice due to some serious #fomo This year...with some helpful reminders and support from a partner that gets me...I made the time and wowza...overcome with gratitude for the last 2 weeks! The resilient people will have a greater ability to adapt to stressful situations or crises, to adapt to adversity without lasting difficulties and to bounce back effectively with a reasonable timeframe.  There are 7 factors identified in individuals with strong emotional resilience. These are detailed in this and the next 6 posts. . . POST 1 of 7:  Emotional Awareness and Regulation Resilient people experience a normal range of human emotions, including happiness, joy, fear, anxiety, anger and sadness. Resilient individuals are conscious and aware about their own emotions and feel comfortable talking about feelings with trusted others. ANGER ICEBERG Anger is often compared to the top of an emotional iceberg, with the majority of other raw emotions hidden below the surface of the water. Anger is one of the six normal emotions in the Atlas of Emotions (anger, disgust, fear, happiness, sadness, surprise) identified by Paul Ekman in his research. Anger doesn’t arise out of nowhere—there are usually other emotions or feelings that trigger anger including: Fatigue Low self esteem Disappointment Shame Fear Embarrassment Feeling overwhelmed Guilt Frustration Insecurities Regardless of the trigger, it is YOUR responsibility to manage your feelings. Blaming others is often a deflection of the responsibility that we each have to be self aware and appropriately manage our behaviour and emotions. If paired with aggression, anger can put relationships and employment at risk. If you are connected to a person with anger issues, remember that you cannot "fix" their emotions, but you can empathise and be supportive. Being heard can assist an angry person to get in touch with the stuff beneath, but be careful not to allow your boundaries to be crossed inappropriately.
