This lends to a forward head posture, shortening of the pectorals and shortening of the hip flexors. Lying on a foam roller enables a more extended spinal position, whereby the head is supported, and the hip flexors and pectorals can be lengthened. In addition, the unstable nature of the roller challenges our core stabilizer muscles AND its firmness provides proprioception regarding neutral spine position. . Great news for all us commuter and pleasure cyclists alike in #Vancouver! The first phase of the new 10th Avenue bike lane project on the Central Broadway Corridor is now open for cyclists to use! Separated bike lanes are built onto both sides of the street to provide westbound and eastbound travel. When there’s no foam roller around - improvise - #partdeux !! . Whether you’re out with your horses or down at the beach, there are always options for encouraging your body to move and rest in alternative postures. We spend so much time doing activities in front of our bodies that our heads tend to drift forward of the spine, and our pectorals tend to shorten. Taking opportunities to let the head be supported, open up the chest and mobilize the thoracic spine are easy to do, will prevent injury, and simply feel good. .
