This week we’ll be looking at the everyday shower routine. Starting with using something as simple as a bar of SOAP! 🧼 _ I used to be one of those people that used liquid body wash from a plastic bottle but since starting this lifestyle, you realise how many products you can swap to make a big difference! _ This simple, affordable, hassle-free and lasting change in the bathroom will, in the long run, keep so many plastic products out of landfills. _ I’d advise going to environmentally friendly stores like @therefillden where the soap isn’t wrapped in unnecessary packaging. Plus, supporting an eco-friendly company is beneficial for your body and your planet as the ingredients are ethical so they won’t disperse toxic chemicals into our waters. _ Let’s stop using ‘convenience’ as an excuse; so buy a loose bar of soap the next time you do your toiletries shopping! Let’s kick plastic pollution’s ass one shower at a time! What’s your favourite type of bar soap? _ #BETHECHANGE#SIMPLESOAP
This next step goes out to all the ladies! 🌱 On average, a woman will use between 16,000 to 20,000 tampons, pads or liners during her lifetime. Hectic. _ When someone looks at the cons of these plastic packaged sanitary products which are the high monthly costs, the damage it does to our environment and the inconvenience it may cause, making the switch to a menstrual cup seems appealing. _ And it is. One of the most empowering, personal decisions I ever made was purchasing this silicone goddess! _ In South Africa and all over the world, thousands of underprivileged girls miss school everyday because they can’t afford sanitary products. A natural, beautiful process shouldn’t have to cost a woman their education and so products like this bring empowerment back into our hands. _ Because they can be reused every month for years, it eliminates waste by the thousands. So many women are making the conscious decision to make this switch. _ But you do you! It’s your body at the end of the day so do what feels comfortable. If you are looking for an awesome alternative though then give the cup (I bought mine from @faithfultonature ) a try and spark up a conversation about it at home or with your friends. _ Do you already have your cup? Tell me below and let’s kick plastic pollutions ass one menstrual cycle at a time! 😉🌱 #WEARETHECHANGE#MENSTRUALCUP
One of the products that has become most synonymous with an eco-friendly lifestyle- the conscious straw. _ Something that shocked me recently was the statistic of in the US, just under 50 million plastic straws are used every single day. To put that into perspective, that’s enough to fill 125 school buses. Let’s just take a minute for that to sink in. _ On top of that, it takes anywhere between 50 to 200 years for a plastic straw to fully degrade. Almost all of them end up in either the ocean, landfills or natural habitats whilst also killing millions of animals. _ With such a simple task of buying a glass, bamboo or stainless steel straw, these repercussions can decrease drastically. It doesn’t take a huge amount of effort to pop one in your bag on your way out. _ There are so many companies out there like @restraw_sa or @strawsforlifeza that can make this waste-free living aspect possible. 🐢 _ This is another amazing way to kick plastic pollution’s ass- so make one small but significant positive difference today and tell your Mum about it too! 🌱 #WEARETHECHANGE#MakingMovesForThePlanet
Today’s switch is all about reusable cotton pads! 🌱 _ As part of a waste-free life, the aim is to ensure that we minimise and eventually eliminate our trash that ends up in a landfill and our environment overall. _ So can you imagine how many cotton pads are used and thrown away every day? A LOT! By simply buying a pack of reusable- not to mention extremely soft and effective- cotton pads and washing them in with your clothes as need be, we can make a big impact and save on monthly toiletry expenses as well! _ We recently visited @therefillden in Durban, South Africa and purchased a pack of 10 of these babies. How cool? If you live nearby you have to visit this beautiful waste-free shop! Have a look online or at your nearest waste-free store for your next step forward in sustainability. _ Lastly, remember that this is a journey and living a eco-friendly and waste-free lifestyle will not happen overnight. However, if we make small changes every day, week or month, the positive growth adds up! So inspire yourself and others today and join the movement! 🦶 #WEARETHECHANGE#ECOWARRIORS#MakingMovesForThePlanet
Your first step and contribution towards a more sustainable future: Change up your toothbrush! 🦷 _ If you are new to the waste-free, eco-friendly lifestyle or just want more information about this incredible movement, the first area that you can tackle is your bathroom. _ Think about it, the majority of our shampoos, toothpastes and even hair grips are packaged in or made of plastic and once we’ve used up the product- in the bin it goes. _ A simple change such as buying a bamboo toothbrush over the plastic version means one less item in landfills that takes years and years to decompose or even ends up in the ocean. _ Bamboo toothbrushes are made of, you guessed it, bamboo! Straight from nature means that the body is compostable and even reusable around the house at the end of its life cycle. _ Companies such as @thebamandboo make sustainability super easy; there are multiple colours, sizes and you can even subscribe to get a new bamboo toothbrush delivered to your door every few months. Go check them out! _ So, let’s start this journey together by keeping our teeth and planet healthy- one toothbrush at a time! Remember every step forward in the right direction is a step so keep kicking plastic pollution’s ass! 🌱 #WEARETHECHANGE#BAMBOOTOOTHBRUSH#SAYNOTOPLASTIC#MakingMovesForThePlanet
